The foundation for the fence do it yourself

Improvement of any country house, as well as the adjacent land, implies their mandatory fencing with a reliable and attractive-looking fence, which is a kind of visiting card of the owner. The support base of any fence protecting the structure from distortions and erosion is, as is known, its foundation.

The process of preparing the foundation for the fence with your own hands does not require any special professionalism from the performer, as it comes down to an elementary pouring of the concrete base from readily available materials. All that is required of you at the same time is the observance of existing standards and building standards, the consideration of which will allow you to avoid accidental mistakes and other troubles.

Types of foundation bases

Taking into account the fact that a reliable and sufficiently strong foundation is required for the future fence, when choosing it, the main design parameters of the fence should be taken into account. (in particular - its own weight and height). At the same time, it is quite natural that with an increase in the dimensions of the building envelope, the load on its foundation foundation will also increase.

Finding the right one for your fence and basement type comes down to choosing one of the following options:

  1. tape foundation;
  2. conventional column supports;
  3. combined (ribbon-pillar foundation);
  4. rubble support bases.

In the case of arrangement of a massive fence, it is best to use a shallow strip foundation.

With a small weight of the fence to pour concrete tape around the perimeter is not necessary. In such a situation, it will suffice to prepare several supporting pillars, poured into pre-prepared pit (the so-called columnar foundation).

This type of support base will cost you much cheaper than a tape one and will not require any special labor costs.

The foundation of the column type

For self-production of the columnar foundation, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • well sifted sand, cement and gravel;
  • metal pipes 50x50, used as supports;
  • household (garden) drilling mechanism.

Preparation of the foundation is made in the following order:

  1. First, the site is marked with a future fence, using pegs driven into the places where the supports are located, followed by a tight string between them.
  2. Then by means of a garden drill holes (pits) for supports are prepared. For their preparation, it is advisable to use a drill, which allows to expand the bottom of the pit, which will prevent the installed supports from being extruded when the ground is frozen or thawing. For fences of various types, the depth of the pits should be within 0.9-1.4 meters with a width of about 0.4 meters. The distance between adjacent supports should not exceed 2-3 meters; it is desirable that pipes with thicker walls be used as corner pillars.
  3. After that, you can proceed to the installation of the pillars and pouring their bases with concrete solution. After pouring the pipe with concrete, it is desirable to raise and lower it several times in order to evenly distribute the solution in the internal cavity of the support. At the same time it is allowed to move the upper part of the pipe in such a way that it, while rotating, describes a full circle.
  4. In the process of installing pillars, their position in relation to the horizon should be monitored using the construction level.

Note that in order to increase the strength of the structure, even before pouring concrete, it is necessary to fill up and carefully tamp down the so-called “pillow”, which is made of sand and gravel. The preparation of the concrete solution itself can be carried out both manually and using a special concrete mixer, which you can rent in any building division.

After the foundation has been poured, you should wait until the mortar has completely “set”, which usually occurs after about 3-5 days (depending on the weather and the mass of the concrete poured in). The subsequent hinge of the enclosing canvas on the installed supports is allowed to be made only after the final solidification of the concrete mix.

It is possible to increase the reliability and durability of the foundation for the fence, prepared by your own hands, if you close it with plastic wrap immediately after pouring. At the same time, the solution will solidify a little slower than usual, which excludes its drying out and provides high hardness and strength of the foundation. The last two types of foundation bases (belt-pillar and rubble) are a type of the options described above.
