As is known from history, the beginning of the 20th century was a time of progressive revolutionary changes in science and technology, as well as in politics, economics, and the consciousness of individuals and society as a whole. It is not surprising that in such an alarming era of progressive change a new avant-garde lifestyle emerged, which was able to accurately reflect the protest moods of that time.

Word "Avangard" consists of two parts. Translated from French, it literally means: "avant" - "in front", "gard" - "a small detachment, moving forward to protect the main army from an unwanted enemy attack." Summing up, it can be said that the avant-garde movement in world culture, art and architecture arose as a result of the desire of society to reassess outdated values in order to eliminate the accumulated fatigue from everything that had been done. Thus, in the interiors of houses, a bright and bold style, called avant-garde, replaced the exquisite and expensive classics.

Characteristic features of the style

With all his rebelliousness, an attempt to oust the classic avant-garde style in the interior does not involve excessive enthusiasm for fanciful, unusual details from a fantastic future. This design direction is peculiar to:

  • use of any modern building materials (decorative plaster, glass wall covering, metallized wallpaper, the latest collections of paints and varnishes, laminated boards) during interior design;
  • any experiments with forms and color based on contrasts are also allowed - the ability to combine the incompatible is welcomed;
  • presence in the interior of the ceiling;
  • use only modern textiles;
  • the presence of room furniture of any shape: from rectangular with clear contours to rounded or arbitrary;
  • combination of several colors in one room;
  • selection of colors for curtains and upholstered furniture, taking into account the color contrasts of the ceiling and walls, which were previously preferred.

Only in the case of a successful combination of saturated contrasting colors does the interior of the room acquire the desired expression and dynamics. For avant-garde, colors are preferred:

  • pure white;
  • bright red;
  • coal black;
  • mimic yellow;
  • dark green.

In avant-garde design, the most important thing is contrasts! But here it is important not to overdo it, because with all its unusualness and brightness, the created interior should be cozy and comfortable enough for the owners of the dwelling.

Room decoration

It is great if the interior design is designed taking into account the hobbies and character of the person living in this room.

Podiums, steps and other unusual designs fit well into the avant-garde style. In the center of the room, it is desirable to place a special object that will thematically set the tone for the whole extraordinary interior.

A classic set in the form of a familiar wall together with a sofa and two armchairs in this case should be completely excluded, but, as mentioned above, avant-garde furniture can be of any geometric shape: an experimental look, individually made from sketches, or ultrafashionable, purchased in the store.

It is important that the furniture is modern, stylish and well fit into the overall design concept. For an avant-garde interior, undoubtedly, modern mirror wardrobes, LCD or plasma TVs, computers and high-quality forms of furniture made of glass and metal with high functionality are suitable.

When choosing curtain fabrics, preference should be given to the original bright colors, which will be able to contrast well against the background color of the walls. Curtains should not be the usual, ordinary design of windows, which is observed in almost every home. It is desirable to give the curtains some unusual shapes, tailored to them in a special original way.

In addition to the natural light, small light bulbs embedded in the niches of the suspended ceiling are also suitable for lighting the room. Also in the room you can place several additional fixtures in the form of wall lamps, floor lamps or portable table lamps. Artificial light should not be bright, beating on the eyes.

When styling a room, it is imperative to observe the rule of color contrast.

It is important that the furniture, for example, red in no way be installed against the background of the red wall. It will be much more interesting to look at a red chair against a background of, say, a blue wall, and a chair of a blue color against a wall of red color.

In addition to the rule of contrast, there is another important rule - this is the “void” characteristic of avant-garde style.

The room should be a little furniture and objects, and air and light, on the contrary, a lot.

Glass vases of geometric shapes, bright crockery, cubism paintings, and various original designer glass-metal compositions are suitable for the avant-garde interior décor.

If you are a creative and courageous person, try your strength, experiment, create your own unique interior! But if you realize that it will be difficult for you to cope with the design of the room in the avant-garde style, then it is better to ask for help from professional designers who will be happy to help you design the interior according to your taste and wishes.
