Gothic style in the interior

Useful

The culmination of the development of medieval European art is restrained mystical gothic, which replaced the luxuriant luxuries of the Romanesque style. Bright mosaic stained glass windows, the spikes' needles directed upwards, the shine of gilding, expression, the symphony of the harmonious combination of light, glass and stone - this can be figuratively described in the interior. The term appeared in sunny Italy in the Renaissance. So ironically, the Romans called the primitivism of the barbaric culture of the outgoing medieval world. At first, this word was used in literature, when the author wanted with some degree of irony to indicate in the text distorted Latin. Later, this term began to call a certain architecture, which in a nutshell can be called frighteningly majestic.

It is not so easy to reproduce the Gothic style in modern homes, but some of its elements are often used to create projects of country houses.

Materials used

In the construction of Gothic buildings and their decoration using expensive natural materials:

  • a rock;
  • marble;
  • oak, pine, fir, walnut, cedar and juniper wood.

The decor of the Gothic house always implies the presence, therefore it is decorated with:

  • tiled mosaic;
  • multi-colored stained glass windows;
  • figured painted or covered with gold stucco;
  • leather-covered chests;
  • abundance of bronze and metal fittings.

Color solution

Saturated colors are an integral part of Gothic. At the heart of the color scheme of the Gothic room, as a rule, concentrated red, brown, yellow and blue tones are used. Stylistic accents are made with gold and silver. And for introducing contrasting elements into the interior, purple, ruby, green or blue-black are excellent.

Main elements

The main attributes are the forged spiral staircase, the fireplace with the forged grille and colorful artistic stained glass windows. The spectacular decoration of the walls can be multi-colored art stained glass windows with built-in interior lighting. Images of Gothic rose, lily, trefoil, grape leaves, or crucifix on stained glass or painted on a fabric, wooden or stone surface are characteristic features of Gothic.

In the era of dawn easel painting and book miniature have been actively developed. Therefore, typical here are items craft craft such as:

  • wood carving;
  • stone carving;
  • ceramics;
  • glassware;
  • hardware;
  • miniature ivory sculptures.

Furniture

In the room there must be high cupboards and double wardrobes with panels, palace beds and high-back chairs imitating architectural fragments of knightly castles and magnificent medieval churches.

A special place in the Gothic interior is given to chests, which, if necessary, can serve as tables, beds and benches. Chests are usually placed one on another, decorating the resulting design with pointed arches, so as to get an improvised cabinet.

In the Gothic table there should be a fairly deep drawer and a significantly protruding tabletop, the base of which are two supports. And under the folding table top must be hidden from prying eyes a lot of tiny drawers and compartments.

Massive Gothic furniture, as a rule, is made of dark wood, decorated with exquisite carvings and various wrought iron elements.

Walls and ceilings

The ceiling in the Gothic room must be high enough, because Gothic is first of all an architecture looking straight up. If that is required by the ceiling design, imitation of beams made of carving is done.

The walls, as a rule, are finished with wood panels or decorative stone, decorated with bright Gothic paintings, multi-colored tiled mosaic and ancient tapestries.

Windows and doors

Of course, the presence of huge high windows, for which the walls are only a small frame, multi-colored stained glass windows, the play of natural light and a large stained-glass window-rose above the entrance to the room creates a unique "face" of Gothic. Stained glass, made in the form of lancet arches, is considered the most recognizable feature of the Gothic style. Doors must be oak and paneled.

A photo

As you can see, contrary to popular belief, the Gothic is not synonymous with gloom and severity, on the contrary, it can be bright and light, spiritualized, irrational, aspiring to spiritual heights. Gothic stylization transforms an ordinary apartment into a mysterious castle, in which the kitchen becomes the laboratory of the magician alchemist, the dining room is a magnificent festive hall, and the ordinary bedroom is a luxurious bedchamber.

If you have dreamed of living in a beautiful castle since childhood, give free rein to your imagination and boldly embark on design experiments.
