Do-it-yourself well construction
Although it is already a lot to drill a well, this is not all. Of course, it is required to restore order, but even if there is no desire to make beauty, you still need to perform a set of works for convenient use of it. This article will discuss how to build a well with your own hands by doing the necessary work. Consider them in order.
Preparatory work
Since the caisson is installed at great depths where frost does not penetrate, it can accommodate a storage tank, pump, compressor, or other necessary equipment that may require more space than a standard caisson can hold.
In order to protect the well from debris, groundwater and to protect it from freezing in the winter cold, a caisson is used - a waterproof container that has a round or square shape. In appearance, it resembles a large metal barrel, but, unlike it, the caisson is coated with a special anti-corrosion compound, or it is glued over with glass glazing. Such protection significantly extends the life of this product. Caissons with a maximum height of 2 m and a width of 1 m are most often used, but depending on the needs they may be wider. What could be the reasons for this, we will consider later.
Installing caisson
In order to install the caisson, you need to dig a hole around the well along the height and width of this product, with the expectation that the throat should rise 15 cm above the ground. According to its size, you need to cut a hole in the bottom of the caisson, and immerse it in a dug pit. Cut off the extra section of the casing and weld it to the bottom of the caisson with electric welding. It remains to attach the pipe to this structure, through which the water will be removed and connect the electrical cable coming from the pump.
All voids around the caisson need to be filled with soil, and above the ground there should be only a cover through which the entrance to the structure will be carried out.
How to select and install a borehole pump
In order to choose the right pump you need to consider several factors:
- The degree of load on the well.
- Desired water flow.
- Depth to aquifer.
- The type of mechanism for the well (when the depth of the aquifer is less than 9 m, a self-priming surface device is installed, whereas if the water is deeper, a special well pump will be required).
The water level, over time, may drop, and then the vacuum pump will become useless. So, if the aquifer is in the border zone with this indicator (9 m), then it is better to be safe.
To ensure reliable attachment of the pump, a stainless steel cable is required, the amount of which must be purchased with a reserve. It must be securely fastened to the pump with fasteners that do not rot in the water. Having attached a plastic pipe for water supply, lower the pump into the well so that it is a meter from the bottom, but be sure to be completely submerged in water. So, together with the pump in a well fall:
- Stainless steel cable (or steel with waterproof braid).
- Cable that supplies power to the pump.
- Plastic pipe.
Before you begin to immerse the pump, ensure the fixation of the free end of the cable. This will prevent it from falling into the well.
After installing the pump, install a cap that will protect the well from something falling into it.
Installation of the hydroaccumulator and other control systems
Ensuring uninterrupted water supply during the construction of the well with your own hands would be unthinkable if the hydroaccumulator is not connected. It is possible to install this equipment both in the basement of the room and in the caisson itself. What is this device for? Thanks to his work, the pressure in the system is maintained, because when the pump is turned on, the tank is filled with water and it enters the house not directly from the well, but from the accumulator, which, pumping water into the tank, maintains constant pressure in it. Depending on the individual needs of the person, the installed volume of the tank can be from 10 to 1000 liters. This influences where it will be installed, since there must always be a place for free access to it, in case of a need for repair or replacement.
Now it is time to install, and configure automatic control systems, thanks to which the necessary pressure is maintained in the system. This occupation is not easy, and requires certain knowledge and experience. In addition, working with electricity is associated with the possibility of electric shock. Therefore, if you don’t really have any idea what this is about, and you don’t have experience working with electrical appliances, then it’s better to provide this training to a specialist.
If you approach this issue responsibly and do everything correctly, you will be able to use clean water for many years.
