Wiring in the attic
Non-residential attic space can become a hotbed of fire due to the presence of a large number of flammable building materials. For this reason, if an electrical wiring is laid in the attic, it should be held in special refractory channels that exclude the possibility of the spread of burning to nearby wooden structures (rafters, crate, etc.).
For wiring in fire hazardous areas the following types of protective shells can be used:
- metal pipes of the appropriate diameter;
- plastic protective boxes;
- corrugated metallized or plastic tubes.
Further, each of these wiring options will be discussed in more detail.
Metal pipes
The most reliable of all listed above is considered to be the option of placing the wiring in pipes with an outer diameter of about 4 mm?
In order to avoid damage to the wires, the ends of the tube blanks used for their laying are carefully trimmed from burrs from both the outer and inner sides. Comprehensive wiring in pipes assumes that you have a complete set of connecting elements from the following list:
- metal corners;
- tees;
- coupling couplings and seals to them.
In addition, you will definitely need a special tool used for threading pipes.
Corrugation or plastic boxes
The option of placing the wiring in the corrugated channels is considered a less reliable method of installation, since in this case there is a high probability of unintentional damage. You can use this technique only in those cases when you completely exclude such a possibility.
Note! The attic in a private house should not be littered. It is not allowed to lay the wiring with any random things or objects; it must be open and viewed along the entire route.
As for the use of plastic boxes in country houses, approximately the same requirements are imposed on their laying as in the case of using corrugated pipes.
In any of the options considered by us, due attention should be paid to the issue of placing in the attic so-called electrical installation products, as well as special protective equipment.
Installation of protective equipment and installation products
When carrying out installation work in a wooden house, electrical products that are part of electrical wiring (switches, sockets and circuit breakers) should be mounted outside the attic. The most convenient way is to arrange all this equipment on a separate switchboard installed in the room closest to it, using as wiring an electric three-core cable of the VVG brand 3 × 2.5 mm? One of its cores will perform the function of a ground conductor connected to the corresponding contact of the shield.
Note! The most suitable place to install the lighting switch is considered to be a pier near the entrance door.
In addition to the above, you will need to consider the following requirements:
- when installed in the attic of an electric motor, the latter must have a degree of protection not lower than IP4;
- Luminaires mounted within the attic should also have an increased level of electrical protection.
With the right approach to the installation of electrical wiring in the attic can not be afraid that it will cause a fire.
