Since this new word is constantly on the ear, it attracts a lot of attention of both specialists interested in modern technologies and curious homeowners. In fact, the term "ondulin" means a modern type of roofing material based on cellulose and bitumen, the coating from which reliably protects the roof from precipitation and adverse weather phenomena for many years. In this article, we will tell you what ondulin is made of, how much it costs, what types of material are produced, and where they are applied.

Forms of release

Ondulin is a modern technological roofing material with which it creates a stable, moisture-resistant coating.. It is a product and protected trademark of the French company Onduline, which began its production more than 70 years ago. This roofing coating, which is made on the basis of cellulose impregnated with purified bitumen, came to the Russian market only 10-15 years ago, after which earned the trust of professional roofers and developers. Currently, the following types of this material are distinguished:

• Ondulin. The classical ondulinovy ​​covering represents a squared sheet with a wavy profile which size makes 200х950 cm. It has high moisture protective properties, lightweight and the guaranteed term of operation of 15 years. Installation of classic ondulin is performed in the same way as traditional slate. The wave height of this material is 36 mm, and the sheet thickness is 3 mm. The cost of 1 m2 of such a roof will be 300-350 rubles.

  

• Onduvilla. The product of the collaboration of the French company Onduline and Italian designers. This roofing material is a symbiosis of tile and ondulin. Onduvilla is a cut strip of corrugations whose wave height is 36 mm, 40 cm wide, 104-106 cm long. Onduvilla is stacked in tiers with a small overlap, its waves imitate ceramic tiles in the Mediterranean style. This coverage of 1 m2 weighs only 4 kg. Onduvilla costs from 410 rubles per 1 square meter.

  

Using the addition of natural pigments, the material is dyed in the required colors. Standard colors include black, brown, green and red. Ondulin coating has the ability to burn out under the action of ultraviolet rays, and the destruction of the pigment is uneven. To update the color of the roof, it is applied primer, and then painted.

Interesting! Initially, the ondulin roofing material was developed as a means for repairing the roof of metal or tile, which does not require dismantling the structure. The lightness and excellent moisture-proofing properties made it possible to lay this material on top of the old roofing pie. During operation, it was used to overlap the roofs on their own.

Manufacturing process

The composition includes waste pulp industry, petroleum bitumen, polymer resins, natural pigments, modifiers. In the production process, the ondulin coating and onduvilla undergo 5 stages:

1. The first stage of the manufacture of this roofing material is called wet, because during it the waste paper, cleaned of impurities or debris, is mixed with water, getting a wet pulp called pulp.
2. The next phase of production is called the drying. During it, the prepared pulp is fed to the conveyor, where it is given a wavy shape, and then dried.
3. Fully dried sheets are cut according to standard material sizes, and then sent to the impregnation workshop.
4. Sheets of roofing material are impregnated with oil bitumen on both sides under the influence of high temperature and pressure.
5. Onduvilla are stacked on pallets and then wrapped with shrink film to prevent mechanical and weather impacts on the material during transport or storage.

The conveyor for the production of this roofing material in 4 seconds produces one finished sheet. Ondulin from the moment of the filing of the pulp on the conveyor to the packaging is made within 45 minutes. In the manufacturing process, all components that make up the coating are checked for compliance with safety requirements. Due to strict quality control, it is considered one of the most environmentally friendly materials.

Specifications

Ondulin is used to repair the roof, flooring a new coating, as a lining for ceramic tiles or to create fences and water-repellent screens. The coating of this material has a guaranteed lifetime of 15 years, however, according to reviews of professional roofers, it flawlessly serves at least 30-50 years. Light weight, affordable cost, water-repellent properties and resistance to biological factors of destruction make indonlinable in private housing construction. The technical characteristics of this material meet high standards:

Note! Ondulin and onduvilla are combustible roofing materials, as the components included in the composition, do not have fire protection. To improve fire safety, manufacturers do not recommend using such a coating for roofs, through which chimney pipes of solid-fuel stoves or fireplaces are removed.
