Warming the roof of the mineral wool from the inside with
Warming - an obligatory part of technological process of construction of a roof. Usually, craftsmen perform external thermal insulation of ramps during installation after assembling the truss frame, but before laying the roofing material. Such a scheme is considered the most rational and effective. Warming of the roof from the inside of the mineral wool is performed in situations when installation work is already behind. As a rule, this method is resorted to, if during the operation it turned out that the thickness of the existing thermal insulation layer is not enough to eliminate heat loss. In this article we will describe how to warm the roof from the inside with the help of mineral wool with our own hands.
Materials
Thermal insulation slopes perform if the roof belongs to the "warm" type. Insulation is placed between the rafters of the frame, this task is performed outside during roofing work. This is due to the fact that fixing the plates, holding them over the head is inconvenient and long. For internal warming of the roof slopes with their own hands use the following types of mineral wool:
- Glass wool. Glass wool is called insulation for the roof, produced from glass fibers whose thickness is not more than 15 microns. It comes in the form of rolls, plates and mats and has high thermal insulation properties, resistance to fire, mold and fungus. The plates are quite elastic and durable, which greatly simplifies the installation of their own hands. The price of 1 square meter of glass wool is 140-160 rubles, which is significantly lower than the average price for analogues with the same characteristics. However, this material has a significant drawback - in contact with the skin, mucous membranes and respiratory tract, it causes severe irritation, so you need to work in a respirator, goggles, gloves and clothing, covering the entire body of the master.
- Stone wool. Stone or basalt wool is called fibrous insulation based on the natural mineral, gabbro-basalt. The composition of this material is carbonate rocks, bentonite clay and other composite substances. Stone wool perfectly retains heat, does not burn, and is not damaged by mold and fungi. Compared to glass wool, basalt fiber has a less elastic and rigid structure. The price of this material is 1.5-2 times higher than glass wool, however, it is even more popular. This is due to the fact that the use of basalt fiber is completely safe and does not harm health when installing the roof with your own hands and operation.

Note! For internal insulation of the roof can not be used slag. This cheap type of mineral-based insulation is produced from the wastes of the metallurgical industry. But blast-furnace slags, of which slag is made, during installation, emit many tiny tiny particles that are dangerous to human health.
Mounting between rafters
If the insulation of the roof is done from the inside, then it is most convenient to install the insulating material between the truss legs of the frame. This method is suitable if the calculated thickness of the insulation layer is less than or equal to the width of the rafter, otherwise the combined thermal insulation of the roof slope is performed. Technology laying thermal insulating material between the rafters is as follows:
- With the help of the construction level, the lower surface of the rafters is measured, it should be located on the same level. If the rafters were made of lumber of different sizes, they should be leveled so that they all lay in the same plane.
- The waterproofing for internal warming of the roof slope is a film laid on the rafter legs before the floor covering. If it was not performed during the creation of the roofing pie, then the insulation will have to be left unprotected against moisture, hoping that the roofing material will not fail.
- Rolls and slabs of mineral wool are cut into the required lengths. Insulation is installed in the insulation, so the width of the material should be 2-3 cm more step between the rafters. If the insulation is carried out in 2 layers, then the plates are placed in a gap so that the joints do not fall on each other.
- Cloths of vapor barrier membrane are cut. They are mounted on top of thermal insulation to protect the material from the penetration of air saturated with water vapor and from getting wet. Cloths are fixed perpendicular to the rafters along the roof of the roof, attaching with a construction stapler.
- Heater is sewn up with drywall, plywood, clapboard or edged board in order to decorate the attic walls on top of them.

Important! If the slope of the roof has a small slope of less than 25 degrees, then insulation plates installed on the rails may fall out of the space between the rafters. To prevent this problem, thermal insulation is held with transverse rails or fishing line stretched between the frame's rafter legs. As experience shows, on slopes with a slope of 40-45 degrees, insulation keeps well without additional help.
Installation on rafters
If the thickness of the recommended thermal insulation layer is thicker than the width of the rafter legs, the installation of mineral wool is carried out in two stages. The first layer is laid in between the elements of the roof frame, and the second on top of them. For this technology of insulation, more material is needed, it is more expensive, but it guarantees protection from heat loss, so it is used to equip residential heated attic. To install the mineral wool on the rafters with your own hands, you need:
- Using a ruler or tape measure to measure the distance between the rafters. Cut the plates or coils of insulation so that the width of the material is 2-3 cm higher than this figure.
- If mineral wool is used in the form of rolls, after cutting, it is necessary to leave the cut strips for a while in the unfolded state on the floor, so that the material will lie down and finish.
- Wrap the edges of the mineral wool slab to the center, then mark between the rafters and gently straighten.
- Secure the sheets of the vapor barrier with a construction stapler to the rafters. The bands overlap by 10-15 cm to prevent steam from entering through the joints.
- Perpendicular to the rafters to nail the slats, the thickness of which is 1-2 cm greater than the thickness of the thermal insulation layer of mineral wool. The pitch between the slats must match the size of the insulation plate.
- Mineral wool is laid between the slats, making sure that knocks between the layers of thermal insulation do not coincide.
- Facing attic walls with decorative finishing material, using slats as a frame. For lining used lining, edged board, plywood or drywall, over which you can glue wallpaper.

Important! Professional roofers believe that warming the roof slope over rafters gives the most effective result. After all, if the insulating material is placed only between the rafters, "cold bridges" are formed. This term refers to small streams of cold air, penetrating into the room through the wooden elements of the frame. The second layer of mineral wool blocks the way to the “cold bridges”, optimizing the temperature regime.
