Warming chimney
Due to the temperature difference between the outside air and the chimney, condensation forms during the operation of the furnace, which has a destructive effect on the outlet pipe. To prevent this, the chimney must be insulated. How to do the insulation of the chimney, will be discussed further.
Insulation of asbestos cement chimneys

The frame technology is fully suitable for arranging the insulation of asbestos-cement chimneys. When the question arises, how to insulate the chimney pipe, it is important to know that this is done using thermal insulation, the materials of which process the external parts of the object.
- First you need a chimney pipe that goes through the attic to the roof, cleaned of mud and dust.
- From the sheet of roofing or galvanized iron you need to make a steel casing in which you want to lay mineral wool.
The diameter of the casing must be chosen in such a way that the distance between the inner surface of the casing and the outer walls of the pipe must be 6 cm or more.
- The design of the casing should consist of several fragments and reach a height of up to 1.5 m. At such a height, it is easier to perform work on the tamping of a specific insulation material.
- When assembling the casing, its elements must be interconnected in such a way that the gaps do not exceed a value of 0.1 m.
- Insulation of the asbestos-cement chimney pipe is performed to the highest point.
- The pipe in its upper part must be given a slight bias.
- The free space between the casing and the pipe, which is left after the insulation, is sealed with a thick cement mixture.
The most suitable solution is M-150. Sometimes it is not necessary to use a steel casing to fix the mineral wool. You can simply wrap the pipe with cotton wool chimney, and with the help of brackets fix it. If in the region there are often severe frosts, the number of layers of insulation should be increased.
Treatment of steel chimney insulation

In modern construction practiced chimneys, the material of which is stainless steel. Structurally, they consist of pipes whose diameter may vary. A smaller pipe is inserted into a pipe of a larger diameter.
- The free space that is formed between the pipes is filled with a warming material in the form of wool - stone or mineral.
- From the inside, the pipes are insulated with material up to 5 cm thick, from the outside - up to 10 cm.
This method of insulation is characterized by good results, since it simultaneously solves 2 nd tasks:
- the exhaust pipe is reliably insulated;
- the chimney pipe on the inside is less susceptible to fire, since the outer elements of the pipe heat up less when insulated.
Methods for warming brick chimneys

Warming a brick chimney is a laborious job. Nevertheless, there are several methods for insulating pipes built from bricks. One of the ways is plastering.
- At first, the mesh for reinforcement is fixed on the brick pipe.
- A mixture based on ingredients such as lime and slag is kneaded. To do this, wash and sift the slag of the fine fraction, add lime and a small amount of cement.
- The first layer of applied plaster should not exceed 4 cm.
- The plaster is given some time for setting and for it to dry.
- The next layer of plaster should already be up to 7 cm.
- The application of the solution can be repeated up to 5 times.
- The top layer of plaster finish. It should be smooth and well wiped.
- Again, you must wait until the solution dries. If cracks are formed, they must be covered and re-rubbed.
- Then the pipe is whitened with a solution based on chalk or lime.
- Thanks to this method of heat insulation of the chimney, heat loss is significantly reduced - this is about a quarter of the total heat loss.
The first layer of the applied mixture should be watery. Subsequent layers of the solution should be a thicker consistency.
Warming of mineral basalt plates

- It is necessary to make blanks of insulation in accordance with the size of the chimney.
- On the exhaust pipe must be fixed insulating plates. For this work, suitable aluminum tape, wire retainer, as well as studs with washers.
- Next you need to finish the construction of asbestos cement slabs or brickwork. If a brick is used when facing, it must be plastered.
- When used for paneling, their thickness should be 4 cm or more. In order for the plates to hold firmly to the base, fixation is carried out with a special facing mortar.
Thanks to the insulation of the chimney with this method, the following results can be achieved:
- heat loss is reduced by 2 times;
- the density of the chimney pipe increases significantly;
- conditions contributing to the formation of condensate disappear;
- the chimney will last much longer;
- safety factor will increase when the heating system is operating.
Ways of heat insulation of chimneys with wooden boards

- To bring down the frame of wooden elements, with the design in size must match the chimney.
- Frame sheathed with slate sheets.
- After the assembly work, there will be shields that are installed along the contour of the pipe at a certain distance.
- Between the pipe and shields is formed free space, which is filled with slag or sealed with glass wool. As a heater you can use dry earth or sand.
According to another variant, the insulation of the chimney can be carried out in the following way:
- At a distance of 10 cm from the pipe, prepared shields are fixed.
- The seams on the inside are sheathed with asbestos sheets or sealed with felt.
- Felt need to lay slate or sheets of roofing.
- Seams from the outside must be sealed with mortar.
To make it easier to seal the seams on the inside, the felt should be soaked in a water-clay solution.
Other chimney insulation methods

Note! According to the above scheme, the chimney is also being heated with reinforced concrete slabs.
Steel case for insulation of the chimney is used in the following way:
- Using a profile and screws, a sheath is made of steel sheets.
- The product is put on the chimney.
- The free space between the pipe and the inner surface of the case is filled with glass wool or slag.
- An oil based paint is applied to the case on the outside. Such processing will provide the insulated structure with a long service life and an attractive appearance.
It is necessary to take time to heat the chimney at the construction stage, then it will serve for a long time and there will be no need to spend additional funds in the future.
