The minimum angle of the roof of a soft roof
Recently, in the construction of soft roof is increasingly used, combining the beauty and reliability of classic tiles with practicality and ease of installation of roofing material. However, in order for shingles to become a reliable hydro-barrier, it is necessary to strictly follow the technology of laying this material. The most important thing to choose the right with when assembling a truss frame to observe the minimum angle of inclination of the roof. In this article we will describe how this indicator affects the slope affects the service life and operation of the entire structure.
Characteristics of the material
Soft roofing is a modern material used for roofing residential and commercial buildings. It is a separate tile, called shingles, which overlap on a continuous crate, forming a solid moisture-resistant coating. The main advantages of shingles - easy installation of the material, which can be used if the minimum angle of the roof is at least 11 degrees. The soft roof consists of the following components:
- The foundation. The basis of shingles is durable, durable and wear-resistant fiberglass, which does not deform when the temperature drops, does not crack.
- Impregnation. Fiberglass, which serves as the basis for the manufacture of shingles, impregnated with modified bitumen, which gives the material a high moisture-proof properties.
- Outer layer Above, the soft roof is covered with an armoring dressing - with mineral or stone powder, basalt granules. The dressing gives the material a characteristic rough surface, protects against ultraviolet radiation, and ensures the durable color of the shingles.
- Inner layer. The inner surface of the material is sprinkled with silicon sand to prevent the tiles from sticking together during transportation and storage.
Note! Manufacturers recommend the use of shingles for the roof, if its angle is between 11-45 degrees. Soft roofs can be self-adhesive and classic. The difference of self-adhesive tiles in that it is supplied with a sticky layer of rubber-bitumen, protected by a film from accidental adhesion.

Slope Criteria
People who first encountered the construction of the roof often believe that it is possible to choose the angle of slope of the slopes, based solely on taste and aesthetic preferences. In fact, there are clearly defined criteria that help to choose the minimum roof slope for a particular roofing material. When designing a roof, the following factors must be taken into account:
- Rainfall in winter. On gentle slopes, the snow masses accumulating on the roof during snowfall do not slide down, due to which the load on the roof frame increases significantly. The more precipitation falls in the construction region, the greater the slope angle should be.
- Wind load. If the construction region is characterized by strong, gusty winds, then a roof with steep slopes cannot be built there, since it can be deformed due to the intense wind load. Therefore, in such an area the roof is given a minimum angle of inclination.
- Material properties. Each roofing material is effective only in the range of slopes recommended by the manufacturer. Soft roof can be mounted on the roof, if the angle of inclination of the slopes exceeds 11 degrees.

Important! Properly chosen slope of the roof slopes of shingles protects against leakage, damage and deformation of the truss under the influence of intense loads, which has a beneficial effect on the service life of the roofing material.
Minimum slope
According to the manufacturers, the minimum angle of inclination of the roof for mounting a soft roof is 11 degrees. However, the optimum for the central part of Russia is considered to be a slope of 20-40 degrees. It is this indicator that ensures effective removal of rain and melt water, independent snow flow and low wind load on the slopes. When constructing a low-grade roof using shingles, the following rules should be observed:
- Additional waterproofing. On roofs with a small slope water may accumulate, since the surface of the soft roof is rough. To prevent the occurrence of leaks, it is necessary to provide additional waterproofing and to use a lining carpet on the entire roof surface.
- Strengthening crates. Soft roof plank on a solid basis, as it does not hold the form. For structures with a small slope, it is necessary to use thicker OSB boards in order to withstand intense loads during snowfall and heavy rains.
- Timely cleaning. On the slopes of shingles with a small slope accumulates a large amount of snow. The rough surface of the coating does not allow the seams to slide off on their own, therefore it is necessary to clean the roof in a timely manner in order to prevent deformation of the truss frame.
Experienced craftsmen note that it is possible not to install snow-restraining devices on lightly sloped roofs covered with soft tiles, because the rough surface of the tiles prevents the elemental descent of snow.
