As a result of the development of modern technologies, a special type of product appeared on the market - a flexible stainless steel chimney. Thanks to this product, the terms of construction of the combustion products exhaust system have been significantly reduced.

Design

Corrugated chimney

Note! The ductility of the structure allows the chimney to bend to a corner of 90 ° or roll up into a circle with a radius of up to 3-4 pipe diameters. Adjacent areas are fixed by means of clamps of a certain size.

For the manufacture of chimney used steel 304 AISI (The American Iron and Steel Institute). It is a composition comprising low carbon content, doped with Cr (chromium), Ni (nickel), Mn (manganese) and other additives. The Russian equivalent is 08X18H10. The metal is able to tolerate short-term heating to 800–900 ° C without losing its working properties.

Advantages and disadvantages

Very flexible

Stainless steel chimney is distinguished by a number of positive qualities:

  • Flexibility compensates for the various bends of the building structure and reduces the requirements for the route of the chimney.
  • The system of corrugations is easy to install - installation does not require the use of specific tools. Also, do not require professional knowledge possessed by the master-stove
  • Due to the flexibility of the pipe, it can be used in the repair of old brick systems for exhausting combustion products - it is enough to stretch the corrugation along the venting channel.
  • The flue can be mounted inside the building or pulled along the outside of the house, it does not require a solid foundation in the form of a foundation.
  • The docking of adjacent areas is carried out with a conventional metal clamp, in addition, special adapters make it possible to connect pipes of various diameters.
  • The design disassembled, it is convenient to clean.
  • The cost, including components and installation in place, is significantly lower than stationary brick.

Negative properties:

  • Limited lifetime. Aggressive environment - the impact of products of combustion and high temperature - lead to the burning of the walls of the chimney, as a result of which it fails; however, the cost of the product, compared with the traditional brick chimney and the cost of its repair, allows for the replacement once every 10–15 years.
  • Due to the heat-conducting properties of the metal, it is necessary to make the structure warmer, especially on the outer part; If this is not done, then the resulting condensate and soot significantly impair the operation of the system.

Application

Application in low-rise construction

Flexible chimney is widely used in low-rise construction. It serves for removal of products of combustion:

  • from fireplaces;
  • furnaces;
  • gas and solid fuel boilers;
  • water heating boilers and other fuel devices.

Device

Flexible chimney in an inclined shaft

Assembling a flexible corrugated channel, diverting high-temperature gases, you should follow a number of requirements:

  1. The pipe and the joints along the entire system of the exhaust of the combustion products must be tight.
  2. The design must comply with fire safety regulations.
  3. The internal diameter of the chimney is determined by the amount of gas output, that is, the total volume of all fuel sources.
  4. Despite the flexibility of the pipe, it is necessary to strive for a vertical location - this will reduce the aerodynamic resistance, remove stagnant zones, increase traction.
  5. To ensure reliable removal of gases, the length (height) of the product must be at least 3.5–4 meters.
  6. It is necessary to lay the chimney away from the pipeline. Flammable and combustible materials must not be stored nearby.

The diameters of the corrugated chimney and the outlet of the stove, the fireplace must match each other or the size of the exhaust system must be larger. For better tightness, it is advisable to use a special high-temperature sealant that can withstand short-term heating in the range of 650–1100 ° C.

Note! Flexible steel pipes are produced in a compressed state multiple of one meter, therefore, the need for material should be calculated in advance. Residues can be used in a conventional ventilation system, for example, for a kitchen hood.
