Roof sudeikina - design, calculation and installation

Roof

Modern civil engineering surprises with a variety of architectural forms and solutions, which is caused not least by the appearance of more sophisticated, technological building materials. However, in most cases, the developers are guided by considerations of practicality in choosing the roof construction, taking into account the climatic conditions in the construction region and the nature of the use of the house.

The leader in terms of functionality and efficiency among roofs is rightly considered to be Sudeikin's roof, which allows more efficient use of the roofing space, and also has a high bearing capacity.

History of origin and construction

In 1914, the famous Russian architect Grigori Mikhailovich Sudeikin published his own book, which is called the Album of Projects of Winter Cottages, Cottages, Mansions. This edition has become a real textbook, and just a reference book for many generations of designers, architects and designers. It was possible to draw a lot of interesting ideas and constructive solutions, but the original roof construction attracted the most attention.

Note! The roof of the architect Sudeikin is the name of the original, designed by a Russian architect, roof construction in the form of an octahedral dome, which does not have a traditional truss system.

A feature of Sudeikin's roof is the absence of a traditional truss system. Its frame is a post-and-beam construction based on the central pillar-rack. Thus, the roof consists of 8 triangles, four of which are joined with the tip down, and the rest with the tip up.

Design features

Having inherited the work of the architect Sudeikin, modern designers using computer equipment were able to calculate the design of the domed six-sided roof invented by him without a central rack. Due to this, it is possible to use the roofing space for the organization of a residential attic almost completely. However, the classic performance of the Sudeikin roof remains relevant because of the original appearance, its main features are considered:

  • The roof of the architect Sudeikin больше предназначена для перекрытия домов и других строений квадратной формы. Опытные мастера считают, что возможно использовать ее, даже если сооружение прямоугольное, но тогда для создания проекта потребуются сложные расчёты.
  • The optimal proportion of the height of the walls to the height of the house, which is in harmony with this roof construction is 75 to 100% or 3/4.

Interestingly, Sudeikin not only created a project of the original roof of an atypical shape, but also proved that this type of construction allows using the attic room as fully as possible, while its arrangement requires 25% less roofing material than for the construction of dvukhskatnyh analogues.

Virtues

As the creator himself proved more than 100 years ago, the Sudeikin roof is not just more original and aesthetic than traditional pitched roofs, it is cheaper to install and more practical to use than its counterparts. Наверное, благодаря этому, проект, созданный более века назад не предан забвению, а активно используется в современном строительстве. Virtuesми конструкции крыши, разработанной русским архитектором, считаются:

  1. Maximum use of under-roof space. Due to the height of the structure and the absence of bearing supports that divide the room, Sudeikin’s roof allows the use of under-roof space by 90% or more. Thanks to this room under the roof can be used as an additional living room.
  2. Air gap over the attic room. The domed form of the roof creates an air gap that additionally isolates the heated attic.
  3. Natural outflow of water and the descent of snow. The shape of the slopes without valleys or galls does not create snow pockets and water stagnation, so the roof does not need mechanical cleaning.
  4. No need for a complex drainage system. Water from the slopes falls directly into the drain funnels without gutters.
  5. Economical consumption of roofing materials.

Consider that one more argument "for" is considered a large area of gables, which allows you to organize natural lighting due to vertical glazing. This is an important factor, because the dormer windows, mounted directly into the ramp, are many times more expensive.

disadvantages

It must be admitted that the design developed by Sudeikin did not receive widespread distribution among his contemporaries or in our time. This is due to the peculiarities of the roof of this type and the fact that the technology is known mainly only to narrow specialists. Those who want to use it to build a house face the following difficulties:

  • It is more suitable for overlapping square-shaped houses, despite the fact that this is the least popular form of residential buildings in Russian architecture.
  • Elements for construction are not mass produced, since all of them are calculated individually.
  • Not all roofing materials are suitable. If sheet metal is used as a coating, then there will be a lot of scrap when cutting. It is better to apply for overlapping Ondulin-compact, Onduvillu or shingles.

Professional roofers consider the main disadvantage to be that it is impossible to use a typical project for its construction, as well as the fact that, as a rule, the performers have little experience in installing the Sudeikin roof.
