Overlaying roof - device and technology of laying
Overlaying roofing is a reliable way to create durable, durable, hermetic and easy to maintain roofing, which is widely used in industrial and civil construction. Laying rolled waterproofing by the method of fusing is mainly used for the organization of flat exploited and unexploited roofs with a slope of not more than 2 degrees. Technology installation of soft blood is simple enough to do it yourself, if you know how to properly prepare the base for the floor covering and fix it properly. In this article we will talk about the sequence of laying roll roofing materials using gas equipment.
Characteristics of deposited materials
Laying technology рулонным материалов методом наплавления – технологически сложный процесс, для выполнения которого используется специальное оборудование. Overlaying waterproofing coatings differ from other methods of fixation to the base, which is carried out by heating the lower layer of low-melting bitumen. The use of roll materials for waterproofing the roof allows to obtain an almost monolithic, hermetic and weather-resistant coating that will last 10-25 years. The guided roof has the following advantages in comparison with other types of overlap:
- Tightness of the finishing layer of the roof. Due to the special technology of laying the soft roof by the method of fusing, the seams between the layers of materials do not match, because the coating is sealed.
- High degree of thermal insulation and noise reduction ability. Roll-up roll coatings prevent heat loss through the surface of the roof, and also reduce the noise level during rain, hail, and wind.
- Durability. High-quality rolled coatings based on fiberglass and modified bitumen serve more than 20 years without cracking and damage.
Note! The only drawback of the deposited coatings is the high flammability of such materials, as well as the use of fire-hazardous gas equipment for laying.

Material selection
Overlaying roofing is an extensive category of rolled roofing materials combined by a common laying method. To attach such a coating to the base of the roof, it is necessary to heat the lower layer of low-melting bitumen with a gas heater to a temperature of 150-170 degrees with a gas torch. The composition distinguishes several types of deposited materials:
- Bituminous. The most inexpensive and affordable are bitumen coatings, which are made from roofing paperboard by impregnating the workpieces with bitumen, followed by processing with reserving dressing. This category of materials includes roofing material, ruberoid. The disadvantage of such a roof is low weather resistance and mechanical strength.
- Polymer. Polymer coatings are called roofing products made from modern polymers that improve the quality, waterproofing quality and increase the service life of the roof.
- Bitumen-polymer. Such coatings are made from bitumen impregnated with a mixture of additives and polymers of fiberglass. They are characterized by increased wear resistance, weather resistance and elasticity, but they are much more expensive.
Experienced craftsmen claim that they are best recommended in the Russian climate. In addition, they have the most favorable price-quality ratio.

Types of foundation
The fusing roof device resembles a layer cake, the first layer of which is the base of the roof, where 2–3 layers of lining are placed first, and then 1–2 of the topcoat. Laying technology рулонных материалов не допускает монтаж кровли на легковоспламеняющиеся основания, к примеру, дерева, так как для этой операции используется пожароопасное оборудование. You can install the soft roof with this method on the following types of floors:
- Ceilings of reinforced concrete slabs with seams sealed with moisture-resistant mortar without leveling screed.
- Monolithic leveling screed cement-sand concrete grade M 150.
- Mineral wool insulating plates not coupled with screed.
Consider that the technology of laying the deposited roof implies fixing the material on a clean, dry, leveled, non-combustible base with high agitating ability. To ensure that the coating adheres securely to the base, a complex of preparatory work is carried out.
Foundation preparation
The correct technology of preparing the base of the roof for fusing roofing materials has a significant impact on durability, strength, tightness and wear resistance of the coating. Properly prepared for gluing a soft roof, the overlap should be smooth, dry and dry. To obtain a reliable fixation of the material, you must perform a whole range of activities:
- Cleaning the roof surface from dust, dirt and other contaminants. This can be done by "blowing off" the roof with a building hair dryer and or by jet-abrasive cleaning.
- Drying the base of the roof. So that there is no water under the roofing material, it is necessary to dry the floors carefully. In dry, sunny weather, the evaporation of moisture from the thickness of concrete occurs within 2-3 days. You can speed up this process with the help of a building dryer.
- The seams between the concrete base plates, as well as all the irregularities and potholes are sealed with moisture-resistant concrete brand M 150.
- The surface of the base is primed with bitumen mastic with a roller to form a sticky film that improves the adhesion between the built-up roof and the cover.
Important! It is not allowed to install the base of the roof with mechanical brushes, grinding wheels and other devices leading to the formation of furrows on the concrete surface before laying the surfacing materials.

Equipment and tools
The technology of fusing the roof onto a concrete base is quite simple and does not pose any difficulty even for an inexperienced master. To facilitate your work, you need to take care in advance of the tools and equipment used for installation:
- Sharp roofing knife, with which help cut roofing material.
- Brushes for cleaning the roof from dirt.
- The prikatochny roller with which press the built-up covering to the basis in the course of laying.
- Bitumen primer for priming the base surface.
- Roller for applying bitumen mastic in the process of priming.
- Gas burner and gas cylinder for fusing waterproofing coating.
Remember that working with built-up roofing is necessary with the use of personal protective equipment. To protect yourself from damage to the cornea of the eyes, respiratory tract and skin, use overalls, gloves, eye mask and respirator. On roofs of more than 2 floors are allowed to work only with insurance.
Laying technology
The built-up roof is laid in dry, windless weather at temperatures above 5 degrees. When the ambient temperature is less than this indicator, the melting of the lower layer is difficult, and the gas flow rate increases. Works are performed in the following order:
- First, fillets are fitted - sides with a slope of 45 degrees, located at the junction of the roofing material with vertical surfaces. They are necessary to prevent abrasion of the roofing material in the joints.
- Vertical surfaces, on which the run of the hydropilation coating will be applied, are sanded to improve adhesion.
- Then glue the lining layer of the coating. To do this, roll the roll, fix its edge, and the loan, melting the bottom layer of material with a gas torch, press the waterproofing coating with a prikatochny roller.
- The second strip of coating is glued with an overlap of 10-15 cm to protect the seam from moisture penetration.
- Check the quality of gluing the first layer. The material in the area of the seams should not depart or bubble.
- Similarly, glue the subsequent layers of the deposited coating. However, they are fixed with an offset so that the seams between the strips do not coincide.
Important! Experienced roofers claim that the built-up roof perfectly fits even over the old pavement, if you thoroughly dry it, eliminate the bubbles, repair the cracks.
