Noise insulation of the roof of the house of the metal -
The metal tile is actively used in low-rise housing construction, due to its high performance, durability, reliability and attractive appearance, which simulates a spectacular, but expensive ceramic tile. However, thin-sheet metal coating has a high resonating ability, which is why homeowners experience discomfort during rain, hail or even wind. To reduce this unpleasant acoustic effect, you need high-quality insulation of the roof of the house of metal. In this article we will describe what insulation materials are used for this and how they are mounted.
Features of the roof of the metal profile
In essence, metal tiles are thin sheets of galvanized steel with polymer coating, which are given a wavy relief using a press. This material is recommended to be used for roofs with a slope of 15-45 degrees, it fits overlap, thereby providing reliable waterproofing. The advantages of metal tiles consider the following qualities:
- Durability. The service life of the roof of the metal profile, subject to the recommendations on the installation of the operation and maintenance of more than 30 years. In addition, they are highly maintainable.
- Weather resistance The metal tile is resistant to temperature, corrosion protection, achieved through the use of a zinc and polymer layer, as well as tolerance to ultraviolet radiation.
- Mechanical strength. The roof of metal is very durable, it can withstand considerable weight loads and is not exposed to mechanical damage.
- A light weight. On average, 1 square meter of galvanized steel roofing weighs 6.5 kg, so for its installation does not require a reinforced roof frame and battens.
Important! The availability and low price of metal tiles in practice turn into the fact that the installation of this roofing material requires the mandatory performance of insulation work associated with additional costs. However, high-quality soundproofing and insulation of the structure will easily solve the problem of high thermal conductivity and the resonating ability of the coating.

Causes of noise
Even a well-assembled metal roof without additional sound insulation has a high resonating capacity, which increases noise during rain, due to the small thickness of the sheets and the properties of the metal. Loud sound causes discomfort, especially if the roofing room is used as a residential attic. This flaw reinforces the following flaws in the design:
- Curving crate. If the crate is made of a material of different thickness or the floating step between the bars, the metal tiles located above the wide sections sag, which gives a resonating effect, creating a strong noise at every gust of wind.
- Lack of fasteners. For fixing sheet metal to the crate, special roofing screws with a neoprene sealant are used, and at least 7-10 fasteners are used for each square meter of coating. If the attachment points are smaller, the resonating effect that occurs when the droplets fall on the ramp increases.
- Installation without thermal expansion of the material. If, during the installation, the screws are tightened as far as they will go, pressing the cap down, the sheets may be deformed due to thermal expansion, creating a loud hum and crackle.
Important! Skilled craftsmen note that the greater the slope of the roof of a metal tile, the more pronounced is its resonating effect, which is explained by the peculiarities of the physics of the movement of droplets along the slope. Therefore, the steeper the roof, the more sound insulation it requires.

Material selection
The construction market offers a wide range of materials for sound insulation of metal tile roofs, different in composition, efficiency and cost. The most popular are polymer products with a long service life. In order to choose the soundproof material correctly, it is necessary to consider the following factors:
- Sound absorption index. This index is the main indicator of material efficiency, reflecting the amount of sound energy that can be absorbed by it. The higher the sound absorption index value, the better. The lower limit of applicability of sound insulation for roofs with high resonating capacity is 0.5. Therefore, foam, sound absorption index of which is 0.3, is not recommended. Noise insulation of metal roofing is performed using glass wool, the same indicator of which is 0.6, mineral wool with an index of 0.7. Basalt fiber is most effective; its sound absorption index is 0.9.
- Dynamic modulus of elasticity. This indicator demonstrates the relationship between the density of the sound insulator and the speed of propagation of sound waves in it. The lower it is, the more effective the material for sound insulation. The dynamic modulus of elasticity of the foam is 0.6-1.35, mineral wool - 0.3-, 35, basalt fiber - up to 0., 05.
Important! Glass wool, mineral wool and basalt fiber are considered to be the most effective materials by which sound insulation of the roof of the house from metal tile is performed. In this case, basalt fiber will cost the developer several times more expensive.

Noise insulation technology
Measures for sound insulation of the roof with a coating of metal will be more effective if you plan them at the design stage and perform during the main roofing works. If necessary, you can make sound insulation of the finished roof, laying insulating material from the attic. Works are performed in the following order:
- After the truss frame is assembled, a waterproofing material (film, membrane or ordinary roofing material) is placed on the rafters.
- On top of the waterproofing pinned rack frame. At the same time, each rail must be treated with mounting foam or silicone glue from the bottom side before installation in order to prevent damage to the waterproofing film and the appearance of “sound bridges”.
- Soundproof material is laid on the frame, in no case crushing or tamping it. On top of the sound insulator stack layer of insulation (foam, foam), securing it to the rafters.
- Then, along the rafter legs, a contra-lattice and a lattice are attached, on which a roof covering is laid.

Consider that the soundproofing material does not eliminate the vibrations that are transmitted from the metal tile to the wall covering. To eliminate them, you must use a special seal when assembling the batten.
