Metal roofing lath

Roof

The question of the proper manufacture of the roof of any building is one of the most significant. The roof protects the building from precipitation, it turns out to be quite serious wind effects. Therefore, the stronger the roof, the better. In this case, you should know that the foundation of any roof is a truss system. It performs the bearing functions, the roofing material itself is attached to it. Basically, the truss system consists of truss legs, various struts, stanchions, as well as battens.

Traditionally for the manufacture of these elements of the roof was used wood, or rather, wooden beam and board, but with the development of production technologies began to use other materials. In particular, it can be said that, for example, metal roof lathing is no longer a rarity. Just about some of the features of the application of such an element of construction and will be discussed below.

When applied

The growing density of development leads to the fact that the regulatory framework is constantly being tightened. In particular, this refers to the tightening of fire safety rules, according to which the use of wooden materials becomes unacceptable. In this regard, the wooden elements of the truss system were replaced by metal ones.

Note! If metal is used as a roofing material, for example, a corrugated flooring, then the production of the rest of the roof elements made of metal will also be most appropriate.

Types of crates

Depending on the roofing materials used and the roof construction, the crate can be of several types:

  • Normal crate. So called batten, the distance between the individual elements of which is 25 - 45 cm. Such a batten is often made under corrugated board.

  • A sheath is called continuous if the distance between its elements is no more than 1 cm. Such a sheathing is performed under tile or roll coverings that do not have their own stiffness.
  • Sparse crate. This is the complete opposite of solid, that is, such a structure, the distance between elements of which is over 50 cm. It is usually performed under rigid materials like slate in order to reduce the overall weight of the roof.

Assembly process

Installation of metal crates

It should be noted that not only the batten can be made of metal, but the rest of the roof truss system as well. Such an approach would be the most appropriate, since it will allow to achieve the best indicators of strength, despite the fact that the weight of the profile pipes and wooden elements will be approximately comparable.

It should be noted that in terms of installation, the assembly of a metal truss system will not differ from the installation process of wood. Will differ unless a method of fastening elements.

  • First, the supporting element of the truss system, called the power plate, is laid and fixed. You can use a traditional wooden timber. It is laid around the perimeter of the walls and secured with anchor bolts.
  • Then an extreme pair of truss feet is established. In general, wooden lumber or plank is used for these purposes, but in some cases a frame metal profile can also be used. Elements are interconnected with bolts and spot welding. It is better to fix rafter legs to the mauerlat with the help of special clamps and bolts.
Roof construction
  • At a distance of about 75 cm from the first pair of rafter legs, a second one is fixed and fixed.
  • Similarly, the remaining rafters. In the upper part, they are all fastened with a special ridge element. The result is a fairly rigid and durable frame.
  • Further the obreshetka is mounted. That is, special profile elements are laid horizontally and bolted or welded. The distance between the elements is chosen depending on the type of batten used, indicated above.
  • On top of the sheathing the professional flooring is mounted.

As can be seen from the above, the device of the metal truss system as a whole differs little from the truss system of wood.

Rules of work

Mounting rules for metal battens

It should be noted that the installation of a metal truss system has some features and rules for work.

  • All places of the welding joint must be additionally treated with special anti-corrosion compounds, since the destruction of the material, as a rule, occurs there.
  • During the installation of roofing should be used only special screws with a protective rubber gasket.
Rubber self-tapping screw
  • If an overlap joint is used, it must be at least 10 cm. At the same time, the elements must be joined by at least two bolts.
  • To achieve the greatest strength of the connection, all the points of the bolted connection of the structural elements should be additionally fixed by spot welding.
  • Installation of metal sheathing and roof system should be carried out in compliance with all safety requirements. In particular, this concerns the use of power tools.

In conclusion of the above, one can add that the metal roof system in general and the batten in particular have a number of undeniable advantages. For example, when using a metal profile, one of the main problems that have wooden structures disappears - the possibility of insects. Plant them will simply nowhere. In addition, the steel profile is a material that has high strength characteristics with a relatively small weight.

In addition, for such roofing materials as metal tiles and corrugated board, the use of a metal profile is more appropriate than ever. And, finally, it is worth emphasizing that neither the roof system nor the metal sheathing of the metal profile is subject to deformations due to time and humidity drops, which is so characteristic of wooden structures. Of course, the metal requires anti-corrosion treatment, but otherwise it is superior to wood in most performance characteristics.
