General view

When the word lantern in our imagination arises some design that can be taken in hand and light the way. Perhaps we are reminded of outdoor appliances that are mounted on a long leg. The drivers most likely thought about the headlights of the car. But zenith lanterns of common features have only that which is connected with light.

In fact, this kind of installation is a transparent roof or part of it. They can be of two main designs:

The second type can be used to carry out airing of premises, for removal of smoke. This is very important, because the warm air and steam rise. If you organize the supply from below and the exit from above, then there will always be fresh and enough oxygen in the room. At the same time, the internal space is not cooled, but, on the contrary, is heated by the sun's rays. They can also perform the role of exits to the roof.

Varieties

Among the main design solutions are:

Belt. Usually they cover a certain strip of the roof and can measure up to 120 m or more in length. Some of them are made openable to ensure good air circulation. Most often used in industrial buildings and work shops. They can be made in the form of a small pyramid or with a semicircular tip.
Point. Cover a small area. They can be called skylights. Can be used with the calculation of the effectiveness of one small room.
Gable or single slope. This view can either replace or cover most of the roof. It is applied in shopping centers, premises, private houses, winter gardens. With this design, the light falls at a natural angle and does not blind, as is the case with ordinary window openings. Underground space can be turned into a room for rest.

From the minuses of such constructions it can be noted only that in some cases the price will be quite high, but from the advantages:

Design features

Simplicity of installation is provided with the thought-over scheme of a design. Its main elements are:

Foundation. It is also called the crown or just the base. In this role, the profile is usually made of stainless steel, aluminum or copper. The first option is used in large structures, where the load is not only the coating itself, but also precipitation in the form of hail, rain or snow. Extruded aluminum is most commonly used (the strips are drawn under pressure and high temperature).
The frame is the base into which the next element will be inserted.
Translucent base. In this role can be polycarbonate, acrylic, as well as double-glazed windows. In the latter case, the outer layer can be armored, and the inner layer consists of triplex. The presence of an air gap in the package reduces thermal conductivity and keeps the temperature in the room well. Coloring and execution can be very different - all at the request of the customer. The design can be matte.
In the opening of anti-aircraft lamps, accessories, as well as mechanisms that provide mobility, serve as an additional element. They can be powered by physical force using handles, be fully automatic with hydraulic or electric lifts. In such cases, the wiring and control panel are also added.
A separate module may be a nozzle to remove smoke.

Assembly process

In general, the installation is in many ways similar to the construction of metal-plastic structures. It is better if the design of the anti-aircraft light is laid in the process of making the roof. If it was impossible or the idea came later, then it is important to calculate everything correctly. Poor planning can cause windows to weaken the overall structure, and it will collapse.

First, you need to complete a drawing in which you will clearly see the location of the construction of the anti-aircraft light and will take into account the total weight of the future frame.
Usually the product is assembled gradually in place, but it also happens that the finished dome is raised to the prepared base.
Marking is performed at the planned installation site.
Prior to any demolition work, reinforcement is made around the perimeter of the future opening. If it is a wooden roof, then additional bridges and beams are installed. In the case of concrete structures, sometimes additional supports may be needed.
Along the perimeter of the location of the future foundation, a waterproofing layer is applied. For roofs with a wooden base, this may be a special rubber sealant and various mastics. For a concrete base, it can be roofing material, bikrost, as well as bituminous mastics.
Installation of the crown is carried out using anchor bolts in the upper cuffs along the entire length. Jumpers often welded together to organize a monolithic structure.
If this is a point construction, then a subframe is attached to the base (sometimes the subframe can already be welded onto the crown), hinges are installed on it, if the construction is opening. The same method is valid for tape designs.
Next, a frame is installed that can be assembled on the ground and delivered using a crane. It may have a welded or prefabricated structure. The frame is fixed to the crown with a welding seam or collapsible joints. The articulation site is sealed with a rubber band or sealing compound.
Further along the entire perimeter of the cells is laid rubber seal. This is done in special grooves. Fixation can be carried out with an adhesive base or countersunk head screws.
After the main construction is completed, the entire area is glazed.
Next, set aluminum beadings with seal.
