Installation of composite tiles

Composite tile - roofing material having a multilayer structure. Installation of composite tile is on sloping roofs.

Construction and properties

The vertical section shows the main layers of the roofing (bottom to top):

1. Polymer material is applied on the reverse side.
2. This is followed by a protective metallic coating based on aluminum and zinc.
3. The main strength element of the tile, made of steel sheet.
4. Alumotsink outer layer.
5. Polymeric material with mineral fillers.
6. Decorative covering from a natural stone crumb.
7. Protective layer of acrylic lacquers.

This roofing has a number of consumer properties:

• resistant to weathering, not afraid of water;
• working temperature range is at least -50 ° ... + 75 ° C;
• corrosion resistance exceeds the properties of galvanized steel sheet more than 6 times;
• is non-combustible and does not support the spread of fire;
• the duration of operation is at least 50 years;
• has a certain level of noise reduction;
• has a variety of design solutions in appearance, is made in different colors;
• average weight about 6.5 kg / m ?.

Installation can be done by hand or invite experts.

Laying roofing material consists of several stages:

• foundation preparation;
• making crates;
• installation of the roof.

Foundation preparation

When laying composite tile must comply with a number of requirements:

1. The slope of the roof slope should not be less than 15–18 °, otherwise it will be difficult to ensure waterproofing, since moisture during oblique rains can penetrate under a protective coating.
2. The power frame (rafters) must be securely attached to the walls of the house, while providing wood products with two degrees of freedom. This is required to compensate for possible size changes due to climatic conditions - humidity and temperature.
3. The edge of the roof is mounted with the removal of at least 0.5–0.8 meters from the outside of the wall.

Fitting darts

At small angles of inclination of the roof slopes that are in the range of 15–25 °, before installing the batten, it is advisable to lay an additional layer of waterproofing. This will contribute to the overall increase in moisture resistance of the roof in strong winds and slanting rains.

To do this, a solid wooden covering is placed on the rafters, on which, in turn, is mounted waterproofing material. It can be a polyethylene greenhouse film, rolled bitumen products or diffusion membranes. The latter material, despite the fact that it is more expensive, is more efficient than others, since it has the properties of vapor transmission.

The crate for composite shingles is the crate itself and the counter lattice. The purpose of the latter is the creation of ventilation ducts in order to prevent the formation of condensate. First, an intermediate structure is formed, forming the necessary clearances. Following the main crate is mounted.

The recommended grating step is provided in the accompanying documentation for the tile. The size of square bars is 30–50 mm. Depends on the power base on which they are mounted. When mounting directly on the rafters, the maximum value is taken; when mounting on a solid foundation, smaller sizes can be used. For fixing screws are used with a large thread pitch.

How to install

Feature of laying - the process goes from top to bottom, unlike most other roofing materials. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the main directions of air flow - winds. They determine the slope and strength of rain flows. Fixing sheets is carried out with wide-head nails.

Note! Hardware must be selected with a protective coating applied by means of anodizing. 

Note! Since the tile has a rough coating due to the applied stone chips, it is advisable to coat nail heads with weather-resistant paint followed by application of mineral stones — included in the repair kit.

After tiling the entire surface of the roof, work is carried out to make adjacencies with the technological elements of the house’s construction coming out of the roof — a chimney, ventilation pipes, and antennas.

This is followed by operations to close the ridge of the roof, the formation of valleys, the framing of the eaves of the roof - including the creation of drains.

At the device of the ridge it is necessary to provide the dormer windows connecting to the ventilation grills of the contra-grille.

Obligatory element of the roof at high angles of inclination - this snow caps. Without their presence increases the risk of involuntary gathering of accumulated snow mass, which can lead to unpleasant consequences in the form of damage to objects that are at the bottom or cause injury to people.
