How to make a drip for the roof - the device and
The roof structure is complex and consists of many elements, since it must perform an important function - to protect the living quarters from cold air, melt and rainwater. Modern roofing materials have high insulating and strength properties, however, the most complete tightness allows you to achieve proper use of additional elements. Kapelnik for a soft roof is a special device that, like a kind of apron, protects the overhangs and eaves of the structure from moisture and wind. In this article we will describe how to select and mount these elements correctly.
Device and functions
Kapelnik is an important additional element of the roof, which is needed to prevent the penetration of moisture and cold air into the structure. It is a metal bar with two bends in the form of a corner. One bend separates the fastening plate and the flat apron, and the second gives the drip stiffness. This additional element is made of galvanized steel, covered with a layer of paint or polymer, which increases its anti-corrosion properties. In the construction of the roof, drips perform the following functions:
- Kapelki prevent contact of thawed and rain moisture with wooden elements on the roof, which helps protect them from the formation of mold, fungus and rotting.
- In the winter period, characterized by negative temperatures, this device protects the rafter from the penetration of ice.
- They are an additional barrier that protects cold air from entering the house.
- This additional element makes the appearance of the roof more aesthetic and complete, as they are matched to the roof covering.
Please note that drip boards are not only used to protect gable overhangs and roof eaves, they are also necessary to remove moisture from door or window openings, since these simple devices allow you to effectively organize the drain.

Varieties
Kapelnik called angular strips, which are installed in the process of arrangement of the roof on the eaves and gable overhangs to prevent contact with water and send it to the drainage system. Depending on the place where the installation of this additional element is performed, they are divided into the following types:
- Eaves plank. Installation of the eave-type drip is made on the eaves of the roof. It is a corner with two bends, one of which separates the mounting plate from the skirt, and the second, narrower, gives the structure rigidity. The eaves level is established along with arms for fastening of a gutter. The skirt of the eaves drip covers the edge of the gutter so that water does not penetrate inside the truss frame.
- Pediment plank. Gabled droppers for the roof are needed only when installing soft roofing materials. They perform the function of protecting the gable overhang from ingress of waggles and cold air. The gable strap is a more complex structure in the visa corner with a small protrusion, which has 3 bend. They are installed along the gable overhangs directly on top of the lining carpet until the moment the roofing is laid.
Interestingly, the gable and eaves slats can be made independently from galvanized steel sheets using listogiba, however, purchased additional elements are desperate for greater accuracy, durability and moisture resistance, achieved through a special polymer coating.
Installation rules
A roof without additional elements does not have sufficient protection from the penetration of moisture and cold air, as a result of which the cost of heating the house increases, and the service life of the roof covering and the rafter frame is reduced. In order to properly secure drip drops with your own hands, you must follow the following rules:
- Products made of galvanized steel, coated with a polymer film, must not be cut using a grinder or processed by other thermal methods, since as a result of such an impact, the protective coating of the bar burns, making it vulnerable to corrosion.
- To cut the droppers, you can use a jigsaw, a hacksaw or just metal shears that do not damage the polymer or paintwork of the product.
- The installation of the slats is overlapped by 5-10 cm in order to prevent moisture leaking in these vulnerable places.
- The joints between the droppers can be further treated with a sealant that will protect the penetration of fluid into the gaps between them.
Consider that the price of one running meter of a drip varies between 70-220 rubles, and the cost of installation work for installing them is 100-300 rubles, therefore it will be much more economical to do this task with your own hands, especially no special tool will be required for this.
Installation technology
Installation of eaves and pediment strips is a rather simple technological process, which is carried out after arrangement of the truss frame, but before the flooring of the roofing material. Installation of drips occurs in the following order:
- First, the trusses of the truss frame are reinforced with additional elements so that it can withstand the increased load due to the installation of the gutter.
- Then install the brackets for fixing the gutter at a distance of 30-50 cm from each other.
- After installing the brackets begin to mount drip. The first bar is fixed with screws in increments of 20 cm.
- The second bar is laid with the overlap of the first at least 2-5 cm, fixing in the same way.
- The drip is fixed with galvanized self-tapping screws with a rubber gasket to protect the mounting holes from moisture penetration.
Important! In order to more reliably protect the structure from moisture penetration, experienced craftsmen recommend laying a waterproofing film or rubber between it and the truss frame.
