How to install the master flash for the chimney on the roof

The roof is built in order to protect the house from precipitation, but it will not be able to perform this function, if not to eliminate the smallest gaps and gaps between the roofing material and the elements adjacent to it. Device

The Master Flash flush is a stepped pyramid on a rectangular base of silicone or rubber. Each of the steps has a corresponding diameter, so it is used for waterproofing pipes of any diameter. Penetration Master Flash is put on over the tip, moved to the base of the chimney on the roof and secured to the surface of the slope with self-tapping screws. Manufacturers offer models of two different materials:

  1. From rubber. Master Flush from ethylene-propylene rubber belonging to the class of synthetic elastomers, has a high elasticity, flexibility, high degree of protection against moisture. They are used for the chimney, the temperature of the gases in which is not higher than 100-120 degrees, since this material melts and burns. EDPM rubber has a porous structure, it has low resistance to chemical compounds, which include fat and mineral oils.
  2. Made of silicone Silicone Master Flush is used for chimney pipes whose operating temperature exceeds 120-130 degrees. They are well tolerated by heating to 220-240 degrees. Therefore, they are used to isolate the smoke removal channel of devices operating on solid fuel. Silicone products do not tolerate exposure to direct sunlight, so they serve less. This type of passage isolation device does not light up.

Important! Manufacturers produce direct penetrations Master Flash, which is used for installation on flat roofs, and angular (30 and 45 degrees), designed for sloping roofs. When choosing a model for installation with your own hands, be guided by the slope of the slopes, if there are only straight lines available, take a larger penetration.

  • Fastener, sealant and screwdriver. If you do the installation yourself, you will need screws with a press cap, a heat-resistant silicone-based sealant and a screwdriver.

Note! At each stage of penetration designate the corresponding pipe diameter. To prepare the Master Flash for installation by hand, you need to accurately determine the size of the chimney and cut the device on the label with ordinary scissors. Experienced roofers argue that the bore of an elastic penetration should be 20% smaller than a pipe.

Important! In some cases, the elasticity of the Master Flash is the main advantage over other types of insulation. Only rubber and silicone penetrations have the ability to compensate for changes in the size of the roofing material under the influence of thermal expansion.

Terms of Use

Elastic rubber driver Master Flash - the best option for waterproofing the gap in the passage of the chimney through the roof. However, it is not suitable for all occasions. Professional roofers and manufacturers recommend using this device for mounting their own hands on smoke removal channels of the following types:

  • Sandwich chimney. Between the two circuits of galvanized steel of these pipes is a thermal insulating layer of basalt fiber. Insulation retains heat in the inner tube, so that the outer surface of the chimney remains cold. For waterproofing sandwich pipes use rubber models.
  • Stainless steel chimney. Stainless steel flues, which remove combustion products from solid-fuel stoves, are heated to high temperatures. Therefore, heat resistant silicone penetrations are used to seal the target between the roof and the pipe. The use of conventional rubber models is possible if the chimney is connected to a condensing-type gas boiler.

Note! If you want to isolate the location of the uninsulated pipe output using the Master Flash, you can use a special sleeve. A 50-100 cm cut is cut out of the pipe, the diametr of which is larger than that of the chimney.

Installation

Each penetration Master Flash is supplied with detailed instructions that facilitate the installation of their own hands. Since the work is performed at a height, safety precautions should be observed, use a safety cable and a helmet. Installation is performed as follows:

  1. If a protective cap is placed on the pipe, it is removed. The top of the tunnel cut with a knife to the desired diameter.
  2. To pull the device on the pipe through the tip. If the penetration is too tight, the pipe is treated with soapy water, which makes the task easier.
  3. A heat-resistant silicone-based sealant is applied on the base of the penetration with an even thick layer and pressed against the surface of the roofing material.
  4. Additionally secure the base with self-tapping screws. Do not overdo it with the number of screws, because when the sealant is washed off, water will begin to flow into the holes.
  5. If the installation takes place on the roof of shingles, the upper part of the base is filled under the cover elements.
  6. A decorative plate in the color of the roof is placed on the penetration.

Important! If you cut a hole and cut a larger hole or damage a device, you can try to fasten it to the pipes with a sealant and steel clamp.
