Over the years of operation, the brick chimney becomes unusable, since aggressive condensate and temperature drops destroy its walls. The channel becomes unsafe for use - tightness disappears, draft decreases. In the absence of regular cleaning, soot accumulates on the walls of the chimney, which narrows its cross section. What is chimney liner

A modern way to restore the channel for the discharge of gases is the installation inside the existing chimney stainless steel pipe, flexible metal corrugations or polymer liner. Steel or polymer liner is selected depending on the type of boiler, and its diameter depends on the cross section of the smoke channel. The new channel gets a round or oval shape, which is optimally suitable for the discharge of gases, and its smooth walls do not accumulate soot, therefore the overall efficiency of heating grows. After installing the inner pipe between it and the old chimney, there remains free space, it is filled with insulation. This improves duct insulation and reduces condensate.

The steel pipe gilding works do not require the use of complex tools, you can do it yourself, it’s enough to call assistants who will raise the structure to the roof and lower it into the chimney.

Stainless steel pipe liner

Before choosing a pipe, the smoke channel is inspected, defects are noted, its length and diameter are measured. The lamp is lowered into the chimney and it is determined whether there are protruding parts, protruding reinforcement or blockages. Having established the channel parameters, a suitable-sized pipe is selected, the cross section of which should correspond to the diameter of the nozzle coming out of the boiler. The lower part of the chimney, adjacent to the heating device, is disassembled for mounting a tee with a tank for draining condensate and an element for revising the system.

Having fixed the first module, establish a straight line. The complete construction of steel parts is assembled on the ground, fixed with ropes and lowered down through the pipe on the roof. After installation, the free space in the channel is filled with mineral wool. The edge of the chimney is covered with a horizontal plate and a cap that protects from precipitation. The bricks removed from the wall are put in place.

Note! Steel chimney is recommended for boilers with a high temperature of exhaust gases.

The use of steel corrugations

The smoke channel is not always straight, in the presence of bends it is difficult to mount the sleeve of stainless steel pipes. In this case, the sleeve is performed with a flexible corrugation. It is easily located in the chimney, repeating its turns. The disadvantage of the design is a short service life - irregularities on the walls accumulate a large amount of soot, and the small thickness of the walls of the flexible sleeve contributes to rapid combustion. The corrugated sleeve will last 2–3 years.

Polymer liner

For gas boilers, contributing to the increased amount of condensate, FuranFlex polymer hose is used. This pipe is made of synthetic resin and reinforced with fiberglass. Polymer sleeve is used to discharge gases having a temperature not higher than 250 ° C. A flexible hose of the required length is mounted into the chimney of any structure, because it passes through all the bends and ensures complete tightness of the system.

Work begins from the top, lowering the sleeve to the heating device. The sleeve edge is connected to the steam generator tube, through which steam under pressure passes along the entire length of the polymer sleeve, straightening the walls and causing them to harden. The diameter of the polymer pipe ranges from 80 mm to 1 meter, you can choose the option for a boiler of any capacity.

After the material hardens, a tee is joined to the bottom to connect the pipe and the boiler. Manufacturers guarantee the service life of the polymer pipe up to 30 years, but with cleaning once a year and proper care, it can be significantly extended.

Note! To continue the life of a brick chimney, you can lining the internal channel. Fire-resistant mixture on the basis of granite chips makes the walls smooth, increases resistance to acids, protects the chimney from destruction. A thin layer of deposition does not reduce the cross section of the channel. Bricking the chimney is cheaper than gilzovanie, but it does not provide sufficient tightness.
