Flat roof parapet
Parapet can be seen on the roof quite often. This may be a nondescript design of a strict geometric shape, but sometimes it is a beautifully designed work of a talented master. The main function carried by the flat roof parapet is still protective. Unlike frame-type roofs, a roof covering on a flat surface especially needs to be protected from the wind. At high altitude, his gusts can reach enormous strength.
Flat roofs are exploited and - no. Features parapets on each of them, as well as some of the requirements will be discussed in this article separately.
Parapet - brick fence

Brick parapets are most often found on high-rise buildings. The height of such a parapet sometimes "jumps over" a line of 1 m, but it must be at least 0.45 m - it all depends on the height of the building and the function of the roof. They are laid out before installing roofing on the perimeter of the building on the load-bearing walls.
Brick parapets have several goals: they serve as a barrier for people working on the roof and protect the roof from damage. On top of such a parapet is mounted U-shaped protective cover made of metal. Such a cap treated with a special coating does not give in to corrosion for a long time.
In winter, the presence of a parapet excludes the possibility of ice buildup and snow falling from the roof surface. But this concerns not only brick parapets.
Metal fencing

Metal парапет также используется на плоских крышах и, в последнее время все больше. Изготавливается он из толстой стали и покрывается составом, увеличивающим срок его годности. Такой металл долго может сопротивляться воздействию на него окружающей среды.
The purpose of such a parapet is not much different from a brick one, in combination with which it is found more often.
Sizes and requirements

Parapets may differ in design and composition, but there are general rules, from which it follows that the height of the parapet on the roof is different.

From construction norms and rules (SNiP), we can draw the following conclusion - for buildings, the distance to the eaves of which exceeds 10 m:
- buildings whose roofs are used by people (operated) - parapet must be mandatory, height - not less than 1.2 m;
- buildings, with unused roofs - it is necessary to have a fence and (or) parapet, whose height is not less than 0.6 m, a combined variant is allowed. For example, the height of the parapet - 0.45 m, plus a metal fence - 0.15 m. In total - 0.6 m.
Note! For buildings with a flat roof, the height of which is less than 10 m, installation of the parapet is optional.
Device and installation

The presence of a protective parapet on a flat roof is necessary. To achieve maximum efficiency, the device of a parapet from a block or brick is made before roofing, directly on the floor.
At a certain distance from the base, a groove is made. Later, when the roof is covered, a roofing carpet will be tucked into this depression. This will prevent water from entering under the coating. In order to avoid the destruction of a brick or a block, the parapet must be covered, for example, with an apron made of metal.
Note! All joints, joints and connections must be tight!
Metal parapet and fencing should be made of thick steel and treated with anti-corrosion compounds. They must have slanting stops and withstand heavy loads.
In addition to the function of fencing and protecting the roof from the wind, the parapet on a flat roof can perform other tasks, for example, to keep water flows on the roof during heavy rain.
