Finnish soft roof - types and prices, finnish tile
For a long time the phrase "soft roof" was associated with such an inexpensive, but unpresentable material like roofing material. However, since then, technology has made great strides forward, which has made it possible to create a more aesthetic covering, known as Finnish or flexible tiles. Masters love this material for practicality, original appearance and extreme ease of installation. In this article we will talk about the composition, types, merit and technology of laying modern soft roof.
Composition
Finnish tile is a practical roofing material that visually imitates shingled roofing. It is a separate tile with a curved edge, shingles, whose width is 30-40 cm, thickness 4-6 mm, and length 100 cm. Soft roofing is considered a practical, durable and weather-resistant coating that can be used to overlap roofs with a slope of at least 11 degrees. Shingles shingles has the following structure:
- Outer layer Outside, shingles are poured with basalt granules, stone or mineral chips. The so-called reservation dressing gives the material mechanical strength, protects against damage and ultraviolet radiation. Due to the sprinkling, the surface of the material is roughened.
- Impregnation. Impregnate tiles shingles modified bitumen, which is added plasticizers, polyester resins or synthetic rubber, to give the material waterproofing properties.
- The foundation. The basis of a soft roof is fiberglass, which is much stronger than the roofing paper used for the manufacture of roofing material. Fiberglass gives the material strength, resistance to temperature and durability.
- Bottom layer. Below the soft roof is sprinkled with silicon or quartz sand to prevent the tiles from sticking to each other during storage.

Note! Finnish roofing is the common name for shingles, which took root because it was developed in Finland. Now such products are produced everywhere, but the roofing materials of Finnish firms Icopal, Raflex Tegola and other manufacturers from this country are still distinguished by high quality.
Mounting methods
Soft roofing differs from other roofing materials in a simpler installation technology that does not require special equipment and takes no more than 1-2 days. Finnish tile differs not only in the form of tiles and color, but also in the way it is attached to the crate. On sale there are the following types of this material:
- Adhesive. Some varieties of shingles are supplied with an adhesive layer of rubber-bitumen, protected from unintentional adhesion with a special film. To fix it on the surface of the slope, you only need to remove the protective layer, and then firmly press the shingles to the crate. The peculiarity of work with self-adhesive soft roof is that installation can be performed only at temperatures from +5 degrees and above. If the ambient temperature is lower, the shingles simply do not stick.
- Fixed with fasteners. Another Finnish tile, the price of which is somewhat lower, does not have a self-adhesive layer. Fastened to the crate with long roofing nails with wide galvanized steel caps. The mounting holes on top are closed by the next tier of the shingle, with the result that a tight, durable coating is obtained.
Important! Installation of a soft roof is performed on a continuous crate. The base for fixing the material should be smooth and smooth, so for its manufacture it is advisable to use not a cut board, but OSB. A lining carpet should be laid over the crate to protect the bottom surface of the tile from deformations.

Virtues
The Finnish tile became the strong competitor for the already roofing materials which became already habitual: metal tiles, professional flooring, ondulin. Soft roof meets strict European quality standards and environmental standards, it does not harm either the environment or human health. Virtuesми этого материала считают:
- Wear resistance. The Finnish tile can serve more than 70 years that exceeds the term of operation of other popular roofing materials by 1,5-2 times.
- Weather resistance That material withstands negative temperatures of up to -60 degrees and positive temperatures of up to +150 degrees, which allows its use in all climatic zones of Russia.
- Versatility. The coating of bituminous tiles can be used for roofs with slopes of 11-90 degrees.
- Availability. Finnish roof prices correspond approximately to the cost of metal tiles; however, less waste remains during installation, which reduces costs.
- Convenience. Laying shingles can be done by hand, as this does not require a special tool or technique.
Experienced craftsmen note that soft tile has a high decorative potential. A variety of colors of natural shades and dressings that make the surface of the material more textured, give the coating a presentable look.
