Copper roof of the roof - types, devices and disadvantages

Roof

Currently, developers can choose roofing materials from literally thousands of items, meticulously screening impractical or unaesthetic coatings. Although some 100 years ago the builders did not have such an arsenal of tools and instruments. Copper roof was one of the first varieties of metal roofs, completely turning over the concept of durability and reliability of this design. Now the roof of copper is not such a common phenomenon, but it is found on architectural monuments and elite private houses, for whose owners the high price of this material does not matter.

Material characteristics

Copper roof is considered one of the most expensive roofing used in construction. However, the high price unambiguously pays off with the quality and durability of such roofs. Copper roofing is visually distinguished from a number of more modern materials by a noble shade and classic style. The advantages of copper roofs consider:

  • Long service life. The copper roof can successfully serve for more than 200 years, which confirms the excellent preservation of the architectural monuments of Russia and Europe, which are more than 2 centuries old. The coating of this material is more expensive than other roofing materials, but it pays off in the first 30 years of operation.
  • Variety of forms. Copper is soft, pliable, so it can take various forms and curves, making it suitable for the construction of roofs of complex configuration.
  • Corrosion Resistance. The main advantage of copper roofs - increased moisture resistance, thanks to which they do not corrode.
  • A light weight. With its mechanical strength and reliability, the weight of copper roofs is small. One m2 of coating of this material weighs 6.5-7.5 kg, so the device of such a coating does not require reinforcement of the rafter frame.
  • High maintainability. It is possible to repair damages on the surface of copper roofs without dismantling the roofing material.

Note! Copper roof is quite expensive, much more than other materials. If she has any disadvantages, then this is the high price of such coverage. One m2 of copper roofs costs the developer 1900-2500 rubles, not taking into account the cost of work on its construction.

Types of copper

Roofing soft copper, from which they make a durable and practical roof covering, has unique properties. When other metals under the influence of water enter into oxidative reactions with oxygen become rusty and deteriorate, the copper roof only changes shade, becoming covered with a noble oxide film. Roof installation is performed using the following types of copper:

  1. Classic. Classic copper is soft, supple, it has a bright luster and a beautiful reddish-golden hue, which will change during operation. The average price of 1m2 of this roofing is 1600 rubles.
  2. Oxidized. When a cinnamon-colored oxide film forms on the surface of the metal, copper is called oxidized. Under natural conditions, the copper roof is oxidized to this state for 7-10 years. Under production conditions, it is aged artificially under the influence of special reagents. The price of oxidized copper is 2500 rubles per 1 m2.
  3. Patinated. Patina is an oxide film that appears on the surface of copper roofs under the influence of the external environment. It has a greenish tint, giving the roof a noble patina of antiquity. Under natural conditions, the copper roof is covered with a patina for 20 years, but in production this process can be significantly accelerated by catalysts. The price of 1 m2 of patinated copper is 3,500 rubles.

Interestingly, soft, lightweight, and ductile copper can look like tin, bronze, brass, or even gold. This effect is achieved by introducing into the alloy various metals that change the shade of the coating. Naturally, such materials are more expensive than other types of classical copper.

Copper Roof Tiles

Soft, plastic copper is perfect for the construction of tiled roofs of any shape and slope. The tiled copper roof is a beautiful, complex roof covering consisting of individual particles, called shards, lapped with the formation of an intricate pattern. Shards may have a different geometric shape, however, they are necessarily small in size. Skilled craftsmen distinguish the following types of copper leaf roofs:

  • Checker This is a classic type of copper roofing made of copper sheet, which have survived to this day almost unchanged. This roof is created using square-shaped elements located diagonally. With the help of locks located on the upper and lower parts of the shard, get a moisture-resistant, hermetic coating resistant to wind loads. Copper tiles
  • Scale. The device of such a coating is performed using oblong shards with one rounded end. Laying piece items into a scramble with offset allows you to get a visual effect of "fish scales". Copper tiles

Important! The device of tiled roofs from copper is a technical and time consuming process. The complexity of this technology lies in the fact that the shards are cut from sheets of roofing copper, and then manually laid on the surface of the slope. This coating is more expensive than modern materials. The price for a tiled roof made of copper is 4500 rubles per 1 m2, and the cost of installation works will be at least 1000-1200 per 1 m2.

Copper seam roofs

Copper roof can be not only tiled, but also folded. It is made of individual elements - roofing paintings, which are interconnected by means of a special lock, called a fold. This method of connecting parts of the coating between them gives almost complete tightness, eliminating the appearance of leaks. There are two types of folding roofs:

  1. With single lock. A simpler and faster to perform the method of connecting between the roofing pictures of sheet copper.
  2. With double lock. More time-consuming type of fastening of folding roof elements, which guarantees maximum protection against moisture penetration.

For the manufacture of roofing paintings using copper sheet with a thickness of at least 0.8 mm. Previously, folds were folded with their own hands, now special sealing machines are used for this, which significantly speeds up the process of work.

Note! The price for a folded steel rolled roof starts at 200 rubles per square meter, which is not much more expensive than modern roofing materials. The price of installation work will be from 500 rubles per meter. Copper folding roof is a practical solution for which your descendants will thank you, as it is almost impossible to find flaws in such a coating.
