Laminate

Is it possible to use laminate and floor tiles in the same room? Competently combining them, you can delimit the space in the room and get an unusual designer interior design. The appropriately used compound of laminate and tile allows you to get an interesting effect when organizing flooring.

Where to use

Dock coverage in the kitchen

In which areas is it better to use a combination of different flooring (tile and laminate)?

  • In rooms with high levels of pollution. This may be a kitchen, where the surface of the floor in the cooking zone is tiled, and the area that is less prone to contamination is laminate. It is also appropriate to use a combination of flooring in the hallway. The threshold of the room is made out of tiles, and the rest of the space - laminate.
  • Living areas such as living room, bedroom, living room. Here the combination of laminate and tile has a decorative meaning. Competently combining materials, you can achieve an interesting interior design.
  • Bathroom and bathroom. The use of different materials for flooring here is of practical importance. The tile is used in the bathroom area with a high level of humidity and more susceptible to water, and the laminate can be installed in the area with a natural humidity level.

What will the combination of tile and laminate

Laminate and tile

Why is it necessary to combine the slab and laminate in the same room?

  1. The combination of different materials for flooring will allow you to visually distinguish the room into several zones (work area, recreation area, dining area, etc.)
  2. Using a combination of tile and laminate in rooms with a small area allows you to visually enlarge the space.
  3. Proper use of flooring will significantly increase their life. So, in the working area with a high level of pollution, the use of laminate is inappropriate, because in a relatively short period of time, it can be damaged and its complete replacement will be required. In rooms with high levels of pollution, it is best to use tiles that are more durable than laminate.
  4. Saving. As you know, when carrying out repairs, every owner wants to save money as much as possible. Using only one material as a floor covering, for example, a laminate, will lead to significant costs. A complex combination of flooring will significantly reduce the cost.

Basic connection methods

Ways of combining these materials

In order to combine both the floor tile and the laminate in the same room, it is initially necessary to decide on the method of their combination.

Ways of joining tiles and laminate:

  • Compound using moldings.
  • Butt joint.
  • Combination using a cork compensator.

Coupling with moldings

Applying molding

How to combine tile and laminate, so that the place of the joint of materials successfully fit into the interior and does not catch the eye? In the modern world, moldings are gaining more and more popularity - materials for fastening and joining various types of flooring.

Moldings can be made of various types of materials. The most durable and durable are moldings made of aluminum, wood or plastic.

What are the advantages of joining materials with moldings? Tile and laminate can have different heights. To eliminate the problem of different levels of materials, the junction between tile and laminate is formed from an asymmetric molding, which has different height parameters from different sides.

If the height of the floor tile and laminate is equal, symmetrical molding can be used as the joint between the materials.

Features of the compound using moldings

Before proceeding directly to the combination of materials, it is necessary to study some features of the work:

  • Laying flooring should imply a minimum distance between tile and laminate.
  • At the junction, holes must be made in the floor. Holes closed with dowels.
  • The molding should be installed on top of the material joining line.
  • For fixing the docking material it is necessary to use self-tapping screws.

Butt joint

Butt joint

Not in all cases to join the materials can be used moldings. The transition between tile and laminate can be made using a butt joint. In the case of a butt joint, additional fixing floor elements will not be required.

The main features of the work on the implementation of the butt joint laminate and tile:

  • The floor tile must be installed in such a way that it goes beyond the connection line.
  • Laminate panels are laid over floor tiles.
  • Using a pre-made cardboard template (the form of the template should match the connecting line), cut off the extra parts of the tile and laminate.

Note! With properly made butt joint coatings, the gap between the materials does not exceed 1–2 mm.

Connection using a cork compensator

Cork compensators

In this case, the nut between the tile and the laminate is made of a special cork compensator.

The use of a cork compensator is quite effective for combining various types of materials. Due to the physical properties of cork (the ability to compress and expand), it can be successfully used as a joint material for laminate and tile.

Cork compensator allows you to set the connection of flooring with a joint from 1 to 5 mm. This is especially acceptable when laying laminate in an adhesive-free way. In this case, the natural movement of the laminate is completely blocked by the cork compensator.

Note! This method is applicable only on aligned surfaces. Otherwise, before installing the materials, you must additionally level the floor surface.
