How to repair chip on laminate

In the process of laying laminate or during its operation, slight damage sometimes appears on the surface of the coating: scratches or chips. Such defects may be a consequence of the impact and the fall of a heavy object on the floor. Many people do not know how to seal chip on the laminate, so consider this process in detail, choosing the easiest and most effective way.

Ways to Repair Chips

When a chip is formed, it is not at all necessary to replace parts of the coating, much less dismantle it completely. The decision to replace the damaged bar may damage the locking system of the cover. Therefore, it is better to repair the laminate without disassembling it, using the available tools and materials.

There are several ways to repair a chip:

• using sealant or putty;
• special wax pencil;
• paint chipped with epoxy;
• rub with the composition of sawdust and plaster;
• perform caching;
• decorate the flaw;
• glue with adhesive tape;
• use mastic.

The stages of the repair chip

The repair algorithm in all cases is approximately the same and consists of several stages:

• the place of cleavage is carefully cleaned, all dirt is removed;
• the surface is degreased with an alcohol solution;
• the chip is smeared with the chosen agent;
• excess composition is removed by polishing;
• the coating should dry before applying the varnish.

Note! After finishing work for 1 hour, the laminate should not be subjected to loads.

Using wax chalk as a repair material:

• choose the most suitable color for the laminate;
• clean the site of damage from debris and dust;
• dry thoroughly;
• then you need to give plasticity plasticity, but do not melt it completely;
• the resulting plastic substance is neatly placed in the place of cleavage;
• remove excess mass from the surface of the laminate;
• the wax should harden completely before finishing;
• the repair place is polished.

When performing repair laminate using wax pencil should follow the instructions that exist for each type of material.

Repair with acrylic sealant

Specialists involved in the decoration of premises, advised to repair chips on the laminate with a special building compound, which is easily replaced with acrylic sealant. It is better if it will have a white color. In this case, it will be easier for him to impart the necessary shade, the most similar to the color of the laminate. The resulting composition is carefully applied to the chip with a plastic or rubber trowel so that after drying the surface being repaired is smooth and level.

Buying mastic for wood or sealant, it is desirable to pay attention to two shades: pine and walnut (dark). Mixing these two colors in different proportions, you can get a large number of various shades. But it must be remembered that the dried mixture will become two tones darker.

A mixture of sawdust and plaster

A good option for the installation of cleavage is the composition of sawdust and plaster. Both components are mixed with water in the same amount to a uniform pasty state. A large chip can be preloaded with a tab, the role of which is perfectly fulfilled by a wooden chip of a certain size. The enclosed sliver is carefully smeared and rubbed with composition from sawdust and plaster.

You can use PVA glue instead of gypsum:

• sawdust mixed with glue to obtain a homogeneous mass;
• the mixture is applied to the chip;
• after complete drying it is necessary to remove the excess;
• align the repair site with a putty matched to the color of the laminate;
• If desired, the laminate can be varnished.

Epoxy resin

Epoxy resin has two components: resin and hardener. They need to be mixed, observing the proportions according to the instructions, to an elastic homogeneous mass, using a drill with a nozzle. Mixing must be at least 5 minutes at a temperature of at least 15 degrees. On the pre-treated chip evenly applied the resulting composition.

Note! If the execution is not accurate, then voids can turn out. Epoxy resin is preferably applied in several layers.

Use mastic

Mastic for sealing defects on the floor can also be useful for embedding chips on laminate. The only difficulty can be the selection of the desired color. It is desirable to apply in several layers, because the mastic after drying shrinks.

The use of a special putty compound allows not only to eliminate the defect quickly and efficiently, but also to restore the protective coating of the laminate. It is important to carry out the work, following the algorithm. Putty is applied in several layers, each layer is given time to dry completely.

Tips

Any composition should be applied very carefully, slightly grabbing the edges of the chip. After complete drying of the mortar, the repair site can be treated with emery paper, but very carefully, avoiding scratches on the floor surface.

When buying laminate, it is advisable to immediately buy a repair kit, which includes: a marker, putty, a wax pencil.

Note! All defects should be repaired immediately, until the damage has increased. Otherwise, you will have to change the coverage completely.

It is necessary to get acquainted with the composition of the repair material before starting work.

In order not to bother to repair and not worry about how a small defect can affect the entire coating, it is better to protect the floor from the formation of cracks, scratches and chips. For example, to protect the most passable places with the help of carpet.

In case of a defect of several slats, attention should be paid to the quality of the laminate. If the coating is of poor quality, then the best solution would be to replace it completely.
