Laminate

Laminate was originally developed as a floor covering. However, the desire to create a unique interior led to the fact that it began to be used as a finishing material for the walls. After reading the article to the end, you will learn how to fix the laminate on the wall and what are the advantages of such non-standard method of finishing.

Why laminate?

Today the laminate has turned into a universal covering that sheathes not only the floor, but also the walls, and even the ceiling. The fact is that it has several advantages compared with other materials for wall finishing, such as PVC and MDF panels. Let's talk about the merits in more detail.

Types of laminate

First, laminate is a very durable material that has high wear resistance. For this reason, he will hold on to the walls for a long time. Thus, having once spent forces and means, you are guaranteed to save yourself from the need for repairs for many years. Of course, if you do not want to change the situation.

Secondly, cost savings. Despite the fact that laminate flooring is expensive, on average it will cost 1.5 times more expensive than conventional MDF panels, for walls you can use low-grade laminate. Such a coating will still last longer than the highest quality wall panels.

Thirdly, the laminate has excellent anti-static properties. Therefore, dust and dirt on the walls will not. It is also easy to care for him: you need to wash with non-aggressive cleaning agents.

Fourthly, in shops the richest choice of invoices and flowers for creation of a magnificent unique and original interior is presented.

And finally, the structure of the material. Laminate is available in the form of small rectangular panels, which makes it possible, with special fixings, to lay the laminate on the wall. Installation of the coating is simple and can be carried out independently. The process does not require special knowledge and training. To work you need the following tool:

  1. Lug for tamping panels.
  2. Rule and hammer to fit strips of material.
  3. Spacer wedges, preferably two sets.

First you need to decide how to fix the laminate on the wall, because the panels can be laid vertically and horizontally. Those who already have experience or desire to experiment, can combine laminates of different size, texture and color to create an original pattern on the wall. Installation of panels is carried out either in the frame way, or on glue.

With glue

Way of sticking

Although this method is the simplest, it requires preliminary preparation. The fact is that the surface of the wall must be perfectly smooth, otherwise the panels will bristle and ugly gaps will appear at the joints between them. Before you lay the laminate on the wall, you should work hard, leveling the wall, priming it, or cladding it with plasterboard panels.

Note! The choice of glue should also be approached scrupulously. As you know, laminate is reproducible to temperature extremes. By the way, for this reason, it is not used for wall decoration in the kitchen, bathroom and basement. Even with minor fluctuations in temperature, the panels swell or shrink in size, which leads to the destruction of the adhesive bond.

Glue must be of high quality. You can use liquid nails or a special compound designed for gluing panels.

  1. Pre-wall is better to degrease and prime. Start laying from the bottom left corner.
  2. The glue is distributed in small drops over the surface of the panel and tightly pressed against the wall. As soon as the glue grabs, the panel should be torn off from the wall and let the glue dry for 10 minutes.
  3. Then the lamella is returned into place and continue to layer them layer by layer. This technique is used in the horizontal method of finishing in order to enhance the initial setting of the glue. This prevents unwanted detachment of heavy panels from the wall. With a horizontal way to stick laminate can be directly to the ceiling, without resorting to additional safety measures.

Note! It is important to leave gaps of 10 mm along the top and bottom edges of the wall and fill them with terminal waste of the material used.

Decorating the walls of the room with laminate

Starting a new series of finishes, you need to check how the lower bands are held. Having noticed that they move a little away from the surface of the wall, it is necessary to carefully correct them by tapping on them. Before starting work, carefully examine how to properly fix the laminate on the wall.

Using the frame

Getting a perfectly flat wall surface is a time consuming process. In order to decorate the wall with laminate, it is not necessary to resort to this measure. You can build a frame of profiles or wooden bars, which will be attached to the canvas. First, decide how you will lay the laminate: horizontally or vertically. From this will hang the construction of crates. For horizontal laying of the strips it is required to vertically assemble the frame, and for the vertical - horizontally.

Crate under the laminate can be made by hand. To do this, install the extreme bars, and then intermediate. It is important to constantly monitor the level in various positions, it should be set perfectly. Then, using ordinary thread, which is stretched from one edge of the sheathing to another, level the intermediate wooden bars. On them and the panel will be located. Moreover, it is better to use wooden bars as the base, since the laminate is not well supported by self-cutting screws on a metal base. Over time, this design will become loose, and the coating will quickly deteriorate.

We use clamps

After installation, the battens start directly on the laminate flooring. It is fixed using special brackets - cleats, and then fixed with a construction stapler. This method is considered the best, since the fastening created by the clips is mobile, which means that temperature fluctuations will not be detrimental to the laminate, which, as noted, reacts to a change in the microclimate in the room.

If desired, you can combine both methods of fastening: first glue the panel to the base of the batten, and then fix it with clamp. Do not forget the final touch - install decorative baseboards and curtain rods. Good luck with your repair.
