How to disassemble laminate
Laminate manufacturers provide a guarantee for their products for 15–25 years, depending on the strength class of the web. Accordingly, the higher the class, the longer the material will last. But no matter what the manufacturers say, from unforeseen circumstances, which often lead to damage to the floor covering, no one is insured. Therefore, along with such qualities as resistance to abrasion, moisture resistance, impact resistance, environmental friendliness and visual appeal, more and more buyers take into account the maintainability of the floor covering.
Several reasons can cause damage to the web. If the visible defect is minor - scratches, abrasions, small chips and cracks, then you can do without serious measures. This will help such means as a special sealant or repair composition, as well as a wax pencil. They are sold in any hardware store, but the price is quite high. But, you see, in some cases it is better to restore the coating than to perform its partial or complete replacement.
Why disassemble the laminate
When problems arise more seriously, then dismantling is not enough. But how to disassemble the laminate, so that it can be used further? Before answering, consider the possible reasons for the repair.
- Laying boards made incorrectly or without proper care. The result is an unpleasant creak when walking.
- When wet, some boards begin to swell and deform.
- Sometimes it is necessary to move, but you don’t want to leave the newly purchased and laid laminate, then you can also disassemble it and re-lay it in another room.
Often it happens that a few lamellae become unsuitable for further use, then they need to be replaced with new ones. Wise owners never throw away the excess material after the repair, so surely in the pantry they will find a few boards "in reserve". To partially repair the coating, you just need to carefully remove the old boards and replace them with new ones.
What you need to know before you start
Disassembling laminate is a simple matter. Modern coating is equally easy to assemble and disassemble. It is said that “breaking - not building”, however, the dismantling of the slats requires a maximum of accuracy and precise movements, especially in the case of partial replacement of panels.
The first thing you need to know what type of boards will have to be removed. In total there are three types of laminate locks:
Keyless or glue. It is typed using glue, that is, the boards are simply glued together. Such laminate flooring can not be carefully disassembled and repainted.
Lock system lock. The panel on one side is equipped with a spike (protrusion), and on the other a groove (notch). When the spike under the gentle tapping of a wooden hammer is pushed into the groove, a characteristic click is heard, meaning that the panels are connected.
Click system lock. It is considered the most modern and most common, as it allows you to repeatedly assemble and disassemble the laminate. The connection of the panels occurs after one panel is attached to the other at an angle of 45 ?, thus placing the lock on the previous board. After that, the panel is lowered to the floor. This is how the lamellas grip together.
Partial replacement
In order to properly dismantle damaged boards, do the following:
- Mark the spectrum of work with a marker.
- Use a jigsaw to cut out a part of the unusable panel, leaving 5 mm from its edges, so as not to damage the locking connection.
- Use tools to pry and remove the canvas.
- Make a blank of the same size from the new panel, clean the edges, mix them with sealant and very carefully place the board in place of the old one.
- Remove excess sealant.
To replace several boards, you should dismantle the baseboard, and then carefully lift the outer panel to separate the locking system. Remove the panels one by one until you get to the spoiled.
Note! Removing the panel, do not forget to number them, then to avoid errors during assembly. If the lamellae are whole, but not trimmed, they can be not marked, but put back in any order.
How to completely disassemble the laminate
First you need to remove the baseboard. If you have a glue laminate or with a lock-lock, then you will most likely not be able to preserve the integrity of the board, so just tear off the panels one by one from the floor.
The situation is different with Click-lock. It allows you to keep each board in perfect condition and make it as suitable for subsequent operation as possible.
Note! Begin disassembly should be from the wall at which you finished laying.
The extreme panel needs to be lifted upwards, while the lock opens and the board is released. Such manipulations should be carried out with all panels, while numbering each of them in order to facilitate and speed up the process of laying in a new place.
