Floor

The use of glue will allow you to create a durable coating of linoleum, which is not deformed during operation and does not disperse at the joints, which is typical for free installation.

Deciding in favor of choosing one or another glue must be given the material of which the main floor is made. For reliable laying linoleum use two types of glue. In this article we will look at how to glue the linoleum.

There are two types of glue:

  1. Reactionary.
  2. Dispersive.

Reaction glue

Using reaction glue

Such glue is considered a complex chemical compound, because it consists of polyurethane and epoxy resins. When applied to linoleum, a chemical reaction takes place, thanks to which the web adheres reliably to the floor surface and forms an intermediate layer that is resistant to deformation and moisture.

Note! Reaction glue is best suited for fabric-based materials or commercial linoleum.

With all its positive qualities, this glue has disadvantages:

  1. High price.
  2. Acrid and toxic odor.
  3. Fire hazard

Note! Because of the chemical composition of the adhesive, it is also called - cold welding. Depending on the concentration, it is divided into groups A, C, T.

Dispersion glue

Dispersion glue

These are solutions of acrylic or water suspensions to which chalk or latex is added. This subgroup of glue has no sharp odors and is non-toxic, which is important for use in residential premises. It is used for gluing linoleum with foamed, fabric and felt base.

Choosing how to glue the linoleum glue, first look at where it is better to use it. Also consider what components are included in its basis. Among the most widely used types of dispersion glue, the following options can be distinguished:

  1. Acrylate. It is used for gluing linoleum in high-traffic areas (shops, offices, industrial premises, etc.).
  2. Bustilat. This glue is good to glue household linoleum with felt backing.
  3. Gumilax. The best option for gluing linoleum made from natural materials.
  4. Dispersion conductive. This option is suitable for working with linoleum in those areas where later electronic equipment will be placed.
  5. Bituminous mastic. Good glues material on a fabric basis.

The choice of glue on the groups of linoleum

Different types of glue

Today, the main demand are two types of linoleum.

  1. Natural.
  2. PVC coating.

Note! When thinking about which glue to choose according to one group or another, you first need to be guided by the recommendations on the package. Ignoring the instructions may adversely affect the decorative quality of linoleum.

PVC Coating Adhesive

Adhesive for PVC coatings

Such linoleum is classified according to several parameters.

  1. Household. As a rule, they are used for laying in residential areas where they will not be subjected to a heavy load.
  2. Semi-commercial. This is an option for small offices and boutiques, with a moderate load on the surface.
  3. Commercial. The most durable material used in shopping centers, warehouses and other industrial premises with high traffic.

Individual approach to the selection

What to choose?

Reaction glue Used for laying heavy PVC coatings at train stations or airports. Polyurethane or epoxy glue will also do a good job.

Contact adhesive provides a guarantee of high-quality adhesion of the material to the surface. It is widely used along with reactive glue in order to glue linoleum in rooms with a heavy load. Such glue provides instant setting, which will make it possible to put the premises into operation faster.

Note! Before starting work, carefully read the instructions on the packaging for the application and consumption of glue.

Natural material linoleum

Dispersion glue для натурального линолеума

This is a special type of linoleum made from natural jute. After production, it is dried for several weeks. To glue such linoleum, you need to use a special glue that contains no water.

Natural linoleum, unlike synthetic material, absorbs water more intensively and, using glue not designed for it, can swell, changing its size. When drying, it will shrink, which will lead to the rupture of the joints.

Given these features, manufacturers are trying to use formulations containing as little liquid as possible when developing adhesives for natural linoleum.

Note! Adhesives used for bonding natural linoleum, have a higher setting coefficient than those used for bonding PVC material. It follows from this that glue for PVC cannot be used in work with a natural coating. In turn, the compositions for natural linoleum are successfully used for gluing both types of material.

Just say what is the best glue for linoleum, it is impossible. Experts recommend that when choosing a coating to purchase and glue for it. In this case, sales assistants will advise you the appropriate option.
