The floor on the balcony itself
Balconies of the Soviet type were made on the "cold" type of work. They do not have a heat retention function. The floor is usually a cement screed, and the walls are covered with a layer of standard plaster. Such a balcony is not only unattractive, it is also recommended for use only in the warm season.
Modern technologies allow to turn a balcony into a fairly functional room. For this there are various ways of its warming. However, you should take care of the floor covering of the balcony.
Types of materials
Before you begin to install the floor on the balcony with your own hands, you must choose the most suitable type of material.
The material must have such qualities as:
- strength,
- reliability,
- thermal conductivity,
- long service life
- safety for the environment and human health,
- hypoallergenic.
Modern construction industry offers a large number of materials. Among the most commonly used are the following:
- Tree.
- Tile.
- Linoleum.
- Laminate.
- Tile.
The choice of material should depend on the following criteria:
- budget of planned work,
- type of balcony room (open, insulated, closed),
- room functionality
Preparatory work
Regardless of the type of material chosen, the floor surface must be prepared for use. To do this, follow these steps:
- Cleaning the surface from dust and dirt.
- Remove the old base. The surface must be a concrete slab.
- Surface alignment. To do this, around the perimeter, you must install beacons. Spray the surface with cement. Prime and sand the surface. After 2-3 days you can continue to work.
- Heat the surface with:
- foam plastic
- izovera,
- polystyrene foam.
Wood coating
Consider how to install a wooden floor on the balcony.
Working process:
- Preparation and leveling of the surface.
- Installation lag. They are necessary for fixing wooden plates.
- Installing crates.
- Preparation of wood panels. They must be treated with a special antifungal agent.
- Attaching wooden panels to the floor surface and fixing them with screws or dowels.
- Installation of bars along the perimeter. They will prevent the bending of the boards.
- Alignment of installed bars in height.
Bulk coating
Preferring durability and quality, you should pay attention to the self-leveling floor. It is distinguished by increased strength and long service life.
To the screed under the self-leveling floor set more serious requirements:
- Materials for the manufacture of: sand, cement, water.
- Screed requirements - semi-dry material.
- After drying, it must be well primed. Optimal use of 3-4 layers of primer.
After preparing the surface, you can proceed to the procedure of filling the floor. For optimal results, it is recommended to use specialized building materials.
Note! Filling of a bulk floor is made not earlier than in 24 hours after drying of a coupler.
Laying tiles
No less common material is ceramic tile.
Main advantages:
- Strength.
- Durability.
- Resistance to sudden temperature changes.
- Good moisture tolerance.
The tile is easy to install. Caring for her does not require compliance with certain requirements.
To put the floor on the balcony of this material, it is also necessary to prepare the base well for work.
The surface must be primed and leveled. The recommended thickness of the screed is 5 cm. For insulation it is necessary to use roofing material and foam plastic.
Note! For tile installation, you need to use a special tile adhesive.
Linoleum on the balcony
How to make a cover by yourself? Before starting the installation, it is recommended to prepare the base for operation. On the leveled floor you need to lay a plastic wrap.
You should carefully consider the choice of material. The best option is one roll, 5–10 cm wide exceeding the width of the balcony side.
Laying linoleum:
- The prepared material must be spread on the surface.
- Linoleum should be on the balcony for 2–3 days. This will smooth the material. Its temperature must match the room temperature.
- We spread the material around the perimeter of the balcony and cut off the excess.
- Ready linoleum should be on the balcony for another 24 hours.
- We fix the material with plinth panels. The best is considered to be a team of his model, which allows to significantly reduce the time of installation. Skirting must be prepared in advance. To do this, measure the required length of the material and leave allowances for forming the corners. Cutting material is recommended a special construction knife. Fix the plinth on the surface using self-tapping screws.
Use of laminate on the balcony
Laminate panels can be used as the main cover on the balcony. It is necessary to prefer thickened models with a high level of protection against moisture.
Note! Laminate must be laid on a flattened and primed surface.
Among its main advantages are the high level of strength, durability and protection against external damage.
Modern models of laminate made in the form of imitation of wooden or stone surfaces. This will give the balcony an unusual look.
