Plywood floor by lag yourself

03-07-2018
Floor

Alignment of the floor before finishing it with your chosen type of flooring can be done in several ways. One of these techniques involves filling the floor with a cement screed, followed by leveling the surface using special mixtures (so-called self-leveling compounds).

But this method has a number of inconveniences associated with strong "littering" of the room, as well as with high production costs.

We use thick plywood

As an alternative, plywood flooring can be considered as lagging, laid on the bars laid on top of the old screed. The working dimensions of such a lag (their width and thickness) are chosen within 5 cm, and their length does not usually exceed 2 m.

Preparatory activities

Floor preparation

Even in the case when the installation of plywood sheets does not imply direct contact with the supporting base of the floor - you should still worry about the quality leveling of the latter. In this case, the logs used as a frame should be supported on a durable and even coating, reliably protected from the effects of wet evaporation.

In preparing the base, special attention should be paid to cleaning the surface of the old screed, as well as removing all remaining debris after disassembling. After cleaning the working area, it will be necessary to take care of sealing all existing cracks on the basis of cracks and leveling the clearly visible mounds. The protruding parts are cleaned, usually with a perforator, while small irregularities and cracks are sealed with pre-prepared cement mortar.

Base primer

After solidification of the solution, the leveled surface is treated with a special antifungal compound, and then thoroughly primed.

To obtain a perfectly flat base plane, you will have to apply a special layer of leveling screed, laid after the preliminary (“rough”) treatment. In addition, a special polyethylene film used as a waterproofing layer will need to be placed under the leveling screed.

Mounting lag

Mounting lag

Laying genital lag is made immediately after finishing the walls and ceiling of the room. Particular attention is paid to the installation of the first bar, which must be set strictly on the level.

Note! To align the bars on the level, you can use the scraps of the board or beam, allowing you to correct significant irregularities of the old screed.

All other logs are aligned on the first bar, which allows you to get a given level over the entire surface of the flooring. To reduce the temperature deformations, sometimes use pieces of roofing material, enclosed under the logs together with wood scraps.

Note! For a good leveling of the floor, the logs should be laid in 50 cm increments while keeping an indent from the walls of about 3 cm. To fix the sheets, it is necessary to choose self-tapping screws of the appropriate length, ensuring reliable fixation of the plywood flooring on the logs.

Plywood laying

Laying plywood on logs

It is possible to start laying plywood sheets only after all the sheet blanks have been selected and fitted at the place of their installation. At the same time it is important to apply cuts on them with high precision, following the contours of the pipes passing along the floor and other obstacles. Before you make such cuts, you should repeatedly check the accuracy of the application of the contour to the sheet by attaching it to the problem area.

Muddy fan

When laying plywood sheets the following requirements must be met:

  1. In order for the floor covering not to bend under the weight of a person and the furniture placed in the room, the thickness of the mounted sheets must be at least 30 mm.
  2. At the same time, the size of plywood sheets is chosen so that their joining lines fall strictly on the middle of the lag.
  3. Each sheet to be mounted is necessarily fixed on all the support lags located under it (along their entire length). It is allowed not to fasten the sheets in places of intensive use of the coating (in the aisles, for example, along which people will move constantly throughout the day).
  4. In order for the floor of plywood turned out not only smooth, but also strong enough - it is recommended to pre-arrange the layout of its individual components. The most optimal is the scheme of laying sheets with an offset that excludes the formation of a continuous docking line on one lag, since this can lead to a misalignment of the entire flat structure as a whole.
