Lighting fixtures for floor lighting
In recent years, the highlighting of floors with the help of special built-in lamps has been increasingly used in the design of interiors of residential premises, allowing the original to solve a number of problems faced by designers. In a special way, the equipped lighting of the floor in the hallway of a city apartment or in the reception hall of a multistory country house is always appreciated by true admirers of the original design. Lamps for lighting the floor can emphasize the hidden features of the interior of the room, as well as create a cozy and romantic atmosphere in it.
Types of recessed luminaires
They differ both in their design and in the type of light source used in them with a certain direction of the light flux.
In accordance with the specified characteristics, they are divided into the following classes:
- spotlights (including devices equipped with halogen lamps);
- LED diffuse glow systems;
- floodlight type lamps.
In work offices and sales areas, so-called spot lighting devices, which under certain conditions can be mounted directly in the floor, have become widespread.
Such lamps are characterized by a bright luminous flux, directed, as a rule, upwards or directly at a pre-selected object.
Note! The effect they create is often not very comfortable, as it has too dramatic effects on the eyes. In everyday life, such sources are used extremely rarely; they are resorted to only when it is necessary to illuminate long corridors, basements or garage spaces.
Built-in floor lamps with halogen lamps are used to illuminate spacious floor niches, separate sectional spaces or entrance interiors. As a rule, they are used as decorative elements, but if desired, they can also find practical application. Thus, some types of illuminators can serve as special signs indicating the need for movement in a given direction.
Luminaires of the floodlight type are installed, as a rule, in the bathrooms, they allow to receive a beam of concentrated light. In addition, they can be used in rooms with built-in podium and with a bed on it.
Note! The advantage of floodlight illuminators is the possibility of changing the direction of radiation, which allows them to be used for different purposes.
LED floor lighting involves the use of special semiconductor products (LEDs), the development of which used the most modern technology. Thus, the use of RGB technology in them allows you to create a variety of special effects in the illuminated areas, obtained by changing the intensity of the light flux and the color of the directional or scattered radiation.
Design features
All types of luminaires embedded in the floor have a special design, due to the specific nature of their operation. Such execution assumes:
- high durability of the case and protective glass of the product, designed for significant mechanical loads;
- resistance to moisture, which often gets into the device during its operation (this requirement is especially important for lamps placed on the floor in the bathroom);
- The low temperature of the case heating (not higher than room temperature 18–20 °), which makes it possible to move on it with bare feet.
Note! The body of such lamps is usually made of stainless steel, and their protective cap is made of a special type of glass. Only under these conditions, embedded devices can withstand significant pressure, as well as sharp fluctuations in temperature.
LED recessed systems
I would like to pay particular attention to LED systems that are embedded in the floor and are characterized by a number of advantages, namely:
- durability;
- low power consumption;
- a large selection of colors;
- possibility of special effects;
- operational safety and ease of installation.
The only drawback of such universal illuminators is the high cost of the prefabricated LED design. But all the costs of its purchase and installation quickly pay off during operation (mainly due to a significant reduction in energy consumption).
The advantages of LED devices should include a significant expansion of opportunities for lighting flat surfaces, thanks to which the illumination of the floor in an apartment can be organized in the following ways:
- by embedding the LED system directly into the floor;
- by laying flexible LED strips mounted around the perimeter of the floor covering;
- with the help of duralight, allowing you to organize a dynamic floor lighting.
Each of these ways of organizing the backlight is implemented according to a typical scheme, which contains a certain number of LED devices, as well as a special control module. In this case, recessed LED lights are made in the form of a point device having a housing with a reflector.
Other types of illuminators of this class are made in the form of distributed tape structures (or flexible tapes), made using RGB technology. With their help, multi-colored lights can be arranged around the perimeter of the room, as well as the lighting of the steps of the stairs leading to the second floor.
Another original solution of the light illumination of the floor involves the use for this purpose of a flexible polyvinyl chloride cable with color LEDs pressed into it (the so-called “duralight”). Such design is very convenient both in installation, and in operation.
To bring it into working condition, it is enough to spread the cable in the place of your choice and connect one of its ends to a regular outlet.
You can also choose the required length of flexible LED cable without much difficulty, since it is easily cut into pieces of the required size (this possibility is provided by connecting LED devices in series into groups that are interconnected in parallel).
