Laying solid board itself
When everything in the house is done conscientiously, it is a pleasure to be in it. Perhaps, the construction work is the most labor-intensive, but at the same time it is they who help create comfort and harmony. One of the types of such work is the laying of a massive board with his own hands.
When can I start installing a solid wood floor? What does that require? About this you will learn from the article.
Work on the floor
If the floor is damaged, this is not a problem. When you start laying new flooring all the flaws disappear. However, check the quality of the carrier lag. If there are damaged areas, they should be replaced immediately. The very same laying massive board is performed only upon completion of all finishing work in the room.
Note! As for the humidity in the room, it should not exceed 60%. And if we talk about the board itself, then its humidity should be no more than 12%.
If you have a basement under the floor, you should ventilate it in advance, preferably within 5-7 days. The air temperature in the room must be at least 22?.
Note! Important is the acclimatization of raw materials in the room, so it is advisable to leave a massive board in the house for three or five days.
Before you put a massive board on a screed, remove all rubbish from its surface. These may be construction residues, nails, chips, grease and glue stains. Check if your tie has moving parts, if any, they should be immediately reinforced. Then you need to take care of the substrate. It can be made from soil mastic or put a layer of polyethylene material. This will act as a buffer between the tree and the concrete.
There are 2 ways of laying:
- The lags are fixed with screws / dowels to the screed. The distance between the bars should reach 50 cm. Lags are set at one level, and the gaps are filled with insulating material.
- Laying on plywood. This method is quite common. You will need moisture resistant plywood with a thickness of 15 mm. The laying technique is the need to lay the plywood in strips of 40–60 cm. Fasten it with screws or dowels, and make sure that all their heads are embedded in plywood.
Of course, laying can be done without plywood, but for this you need a perfectly flat concrete screed. This process will take more time and, accordingly, funds. Therefore, laying flooring from the array can be done with the help of supporting structures. Basically, plywood, boardwalk or OSB boards will do. The edges of the plates are joined on the logs, and not between them. As for the gap, it should be at least 2 mm, and between walls and sheets of 10–15 mm, no more. OSB and plywood are fastened with screws.
Note! Whatever method of installation you choose, it is worth remembering about the quality of the material. Do not rush to buy what is advertised, not knowing in advance about the manufacturer and reviews.
Installation on a wooden floor
If you decide to install a massive board on a wooden floor, then first make sure that it is durable. This technique is also used, but only if the floor has no damage or shrinkage. Laying solid wood on a wooden floor is recommended to be carried out diagonally. It is attached to the screws.
When your floor is installed, proceed to grinding it. To do this, use a grinder. She will remove the flaws and prepare the surface of the board for varnishing. When finished with sanding, sweep or vacuum the surface. Varnish can be applied on the same day up to 3 layers. To lay the varnish smoothly, it is recommended to sand each layer.
Yes, the process is time consuming, which means that during the week at least you will work with the floor. However, it is worth it, because the number of layers depends on the strength and specularity of the floor. The final work will be the installation of plinths.
Note! Remember how much distance you have after installing a massive board near the walls. This is important because in the case of large gaps, you can use wedges and close them. Do not worry about fastenings, they will not be visible, they will be hidden under the plinth.
Now that your work has come to an end, you will be proud to appreciate your efforts.
