Laying linoleum most
However, often the financial situation of the landlord plays a big role, therefore, if it is - the financial condition - does not allow making repairs in the Eurostyle, then the purchase of linoleum is a more or less acceptable option in this situation. In addition, we can say that laying linoleum with your own hands is not so difficult.
It should be noted that linoleum is used as a floor covering quite often both in apartments and cottages, and in office premises and reception commanders. So, there is nothing terrible if there is not enough money for a laminate or a more expensive coating - linoleum is also perfect for decorating the floor of the room. To last his life as long as possible, you need to know how to put linoleum correctly.
Leveling the base before installation
To be able to lay the linoleum yourself, you need to thoroughly prepare the floor in the room before starting work. To do this, follow a certain sequence.
An ordinary building level (or a rule with a level) of 1–2 m in length is taken. Then it should be applied to the floor in different places and check if there are serious floor defects. In the case when the protuberances or pits do not exceed 2 mm, the floor can be considered completely suitable for starting work. If in different places the height of the floor varies significantly, it will have to be leveled. For each type of floor has its own technology of laying, which is different from each other, respectively, and the various bases are aligned in accordance with the already established work process.
How to align wood floor under linoleum
When laying linoleum occurs on the surface of a wooden floor, you need to rather seriously check whether the boards are evenly laid, if there are no gaps between them, and so on. If such problems are not eliminated in time, the laminate in those places will surely bend or even break. What needs to be done?
The gap must be covered with putty. If in some place knots stick out or are chipped, such places need to be leveled with a plane. All the nails that stick out of the floor, can not only pierce the linoleum, but also ruin the shoes or damage the foot, so they must either be completely hammered or gently pulled out. The same applies to screws.
Note! As a putty for this floor, only a product specially made for a wooden covering is suitable. It is this putty that will adhere best to the boards, whereas the usual satengips, used to putty ceilings and walls, will fall off the tree.
Update concrete pavement for linoleum
In the case when the linoleum will move to the concrete floor, it is necessary to carry out the following series of works. First of all, just as with a wooden floor, it is necessary to check whether the concrete poured in earlier is flat. Perhaps over time, cracks or voids formed in it, which led to its complete or partial deformation. Therefore, all suspicious places must be reviewed and, if necessary, repaired.
Note! Voids in the floor are determined by the sound. It is enough in several places to lightly tap the floor with a hammer to understand whether there are voids in it (for example, a layer of concrete has moved away from the slab) or not. If the sound is deaf when struck, then the concrete in this place is dense; when a more ringing sound is heard, it becomes clear that there is a small thickness of concrete, and it needs repair.
Fill holes and cracks in the floor, as well as other defects, can be made with a solution of cement and sand or a mixture based on glue-cement. It is necessary to coat the cracks so that the mixture gets inside, and does not tighten only the surface of the hole.
In rare cases, it is easier to pour a new layer of concrete or screed than repair a lot of cracks. However, it is worth considering that a new layer of concrete will significantly increase the level of the floor, so you can use plywood, as described in the case when linoleum is required to be laid on a wooden floor.
Measurement
Getting started is best with creating a plan. It can be drawn on a piece of paper schematically, but so that it is clear where the width of the room, and where the length. The relevant room dimensions are plotted on the plan after the whole room has been measured up and down. You can determine the length and width of the room with the help of a conventional building tape measure, 5 or 10 m long. Also, laser tape measure will do an excellent job with this task.
It is worth vymeryat all sides of the room, as two parallel surfaces may differ in length by a couple of centimeters, which can lead to incorrect calculations when buying linoleum. There are three criteria to choose a roll:
- linoleum has a fixed width - 2; 2.5; 3; 3.5; four; 5 and even 6 m;
- the required size of linoleum when buying depends on how it will be laid - along the length of the room or across it.
Note! How the linoleum will be laid is influenced by its design and the location of the window (s) in the room, due to which light will enter the room.
Buying linoleum
It is best to make a purchase of this kind in specialized stores, although linoleum may be a bit cheaper in construction markets. Usually in them the price of goods is cheaper due to the less expensive lease of the trading place. The main thing is to have a guarantee on the goods. It is also important that the seller is competent in the choice of linoleum and was able to provide the most complete information regarding how to choose the color, type of base and pattern. Surely such a person will be able to suggest how to properly lay the selected linoleum - only he needs to name the size of the room and specify the location of the window.
Installation of linoleum and plinths
Although the methods of laying linoleum are different, it is worth spreading it on the floor before work begins so that it straightens. After that, it can be cut, but it should be done so that the linoleum is not too short and narrow in relation to a wall.
Note! A small gap should be left between the wall and the edge of linoleum, which will be no more than 1 cm - in order to avoid waves on the linoleum after rolling on the floor and installing the baseboards. It will not be visible, as it closes the baseboards.
When linoleum is trimmed, it is glued to the base with a special adhesive. It is usually used in rooms with an area of more than 20 m ?. If linoleum lays down in one roll, and not in several pieces, then you can do without glue.
Note! In the place where the threshold of the room is, it is better to stick linoleum, otherwise it will constantly bully, and through it everyone will stumble.
There are situations where you can’t close the floor of a room with linoleum, so you have to use two or even three pieces. So that the seams between them do not bully, cold welding is usually used, soldering them together. By the way, if you don’t care what the floor will look like, you need to make sure that the pattern in the adjacent pieces is the same, then the seam will be less noticeable. However, such a fit implies the cutting of linoleum, and therefore its greater consumption. Therefore, in order to avoid this, it is better to buy a single color linoleum.
In the end, linoleum is laid. It now remains to fix its edges with plinths. There are several options for which type of baseboards to choose:
- Wood.
- Plastic;
- Skirting with cable channel.
Wooden plinths are attached to the wall with dowels and screws. If linoleum is laid in a wooden house, then it is enough just to use screws. Plastic plinths are fixed either with a self-tapping screw through or mounted on a special mount that is attached to the wall.
The third type, plinth with a cable channel, which is also made of plastic, is an excellent option for those who cannot hold a cable in the ceiling, and there is no desire or possibility to make walls. All the wiring (of course, not a very large cross section) can be carried out under this plinth in a special channel.
For plastic plinths, it is necessary to buy special corners to dock the baseboard at the corners of the room. Wooden products are simply neatly trimmed at an angle of 45 ° using special equipment.
Note! For manual pruning of wooden skirting, the block is applied.
When everything is installed, we can say that the installation of linoleum is completed. Now you need to bring furniture into the room (after a small wet cleaning) and you can use this room.
