How to replace the floor in a wooden house

Floor

Most of the old buildings still have wooden floors. After forty and more years of operation, they clearly do not meet modern quality requirements. If in your case there is a similar picture, and you think what to do with old wooden floors, then this article is for you. From it you will learn how to replace the floor in a wooden house.

Disassembly - step one

Dismantling

When dismantling the old floor is important to be careful. The danger lies in the possibility of damage to the ceiling, if the work is not carried out on the first floor. To perform dismantling work, you need the following tool:

  • hammer,
  • lom,
  • nail puller
  • screwdrivers
  • saw.

Use scrap

Using scrap, tear down all available baseboards around the perimeter. All screws and nails should be removed from the floor surface, especially those that connect the floor logs. For this you need a nail puller and another improvised tool. Then remove all the boards that are completely unusable. This procedure can be accelerated if you use another dismantling technology:

  • Draw lines in places where lags pass.
  • From the drawn line, retreat 2.5 cm and repeat the line.
  • Make holes for the saw.

Note! If you have a jigsaw, then all the work of dismantling the old flooring will be done even faster.

Planning for the future floor

Tiling in the bathroom

The next stage will depend entirely on what result you want to achieve at the end. If you plan to lay only tile, the subfloor must be smooth, dry and durable. If you plan to lay laminate, linoleum or parquet, the requirements for the subfloor are even higher. The surface should be perfectly smooth, without any gouges and nodules. In this article we will look at how to replace a wooden floor with a concrete floor, a laminate and a wooden floor.

Replacing the floor with a concrete

The scheme of the concrete floor in a wooden house

Concrete floor consists of the following components:

  • Crushed stone
  • Sand.
  • Waterproofing.
  • Thermal insulation.
  • Reinforcing mesh.
  • Concrete.

Concrete floor waterproofing

Using a spade, a layer of sand and rubble is leveled, which should be up to 15 cm thick. Then waterproofing is laid. It should protrude above the floor around the perimeter. After waterproofing comes a layer of insulation and reinforcing mesh. At the very end of the established beacons poured concrete. The final and main process of concreting is as follows:

  • The leveling of the concrete starts from the farthest corners towards the door.
  • The surface of the concrete is aligned with the rule.
  • When the entire floor area is covered with concrete, leave everything to dry completely.
  • Then pour a self-leveling mixture onto the roughing screed and spread it over the surface with a needle roller.

Here, perhaps, that's all. Draft ready. It can be used for laying and tile and laminate. We will consider the last option.

Laminate flooring

If you want to replace the wooden floor with laminate, then know that the base for laying laminate can be both wooden and concrete. The main requirement is strength and evenness.

If the wooden or concrete base has drops of more than 2 mm per meter, it needs additional leveling before laying the laminate. The concrete floor is leveled with a self-leveling mix, the wooden one can be leveled with plywood.

Note! Before laying the laminate, it is important to check that the base does not bend or creak.

  1. First of all, the entire floor is disassembled.
  2. Then the height difference is leveled by the lag level. If necessary, you can install additional lags, as a result, the distance between them will decrease, which means that there will be less risk of sagging and floor creaking.
  3. Then the boards are laid.
  4. A layer of plywood or chipboard is laid on top. The thickness of the coating should be between 12–15 mm.
  5. A substrate specially designed for the laminate is laid on the finishing surface.
  6. Laying laminate carried out according to the instructions.

So that in the near future you do not have to replace the laminate, choose the coating that will last for decades.

Replacing the wooden floor

If you live in your house, then replacing the wooden floor, as in the apartment, begins with the dismantling of the old coating.

Note! In most cases, logs also need to be dismantled, although the overall picture can only be obtained after opening the floor.

To replace the floor in a wooden house will need to prepare:

  • timber dry 20? 20 cm;
  • glassine for thermal insulation as a substrate;
  • Rockwool stone wool or other thermal insulation material;
  • special wood preservative;
  • fasteners: galvanized plates and screws;
  • polyurethane foam.

Wooden flooring

So, logs should be laid strictly horizontally. To do this, use the building level. Under the logs, which will be laid on the foundation, should be laid ruberoid. Impregnated with antiseptic boards are laid along the walls perpendicular to the logs. Their connection is carried out with the help of screws and corners. Thus, the whole structure will close into one. The gap between the wooden structure and the wall is filled with mortar.

Insulation features

For laying insulation should mount the base. For it are used boards with a thickness of 30 mm. Boards are screwed to the bearing bars, and the gaps between them are poured with mounting foam. Then you can lay insulation.

As for the finishing floor, for it is better to use a board 4 cm thick.

Note! All wood building material should be well dried.

Wooden floor mount

The board is also fastened with screws. After flooring do not rush to close it. As experts advise, let the floor stand for a month. During this period of time, you can tighten up the fasteners in some places, and the boards themselves will be compressed. Only after that you can do the finishing finish.

So, here is the whole process of replacing a wooden floor. Replacement can be carried out both in the apartment and in the house. If you already have experience in replacing wooden floor, then leave your comments on this article.
