Floor

Relatively recently, infrared floor heating systems have been used for space heating. IR film does not dry the air and disinfects it, helps to fight unpleasant odors. From this article we learn how to choose an infrared heat-insulated floor. We will also deal with which floor is better than film or rod type.

Infrared film-type floor

Infrared film-type floor

At the heart of the infrared system is a carbon or bimetallic film. It is laid on the finishing floor covering. In most cases, the installation of the film is carried out under the laminate, carpet, linoleum or parquet.

Advantages of film infrared floor:

  • Installation is quick and easy. Make a tie is not necessary.
  • Affordable price.
  • Thanks to ultra-thinness, the floor in the room will rise no more than 3.5 mm.
  • Electrical safety system.
  • Film infrared floor has a low level of energy consumption.
  • It is pleasant and comfortable to walk barefoot on the floor covering laid on the infrared film.

But for objectivity, some shortcomings of this system should be listed. However, some of them are detected after installation. This is due to the silence or ignorance of some factors by sellers:

  • Installation of the film is placed only on a flat surface. If the floor has unevenness, the film may be damaged, so it may be necessary to make a small screed.
  • If you have to level the floor, he can climb more than the expected 1.5-3 mm.
  • Not everyone can cope with the connection of the heating contact, so it is better to entrust this work to a qualified specialist.
  • To ensure fire and electrical safety, proper connection / installation should be carried out.

Thermostat connection

Note! It is not allowed to install furniture on the infrared floor. Otherwise, deformation and darkening of the coating may occur in these areas. This may break the film.

Rod ir floor

Rod ir floor

Flexible electric rods, which are placed on the insulating layer, act as a core infrared floor. This heating method is often used for flooring such as porcelain stoneware and tile. Such heating is made mainly in bathrooms, kitchens and hallways.

Here are some advantages of rod infrared heating:

  • Safety for wet rooms.
  • Rod heating system can be poured with a coupler.
  • It has the function of temperature self-regulation. Therefore, the installation of furniture is allowed on top of such heating.
  • Easy installation and maintenance.
  • Heating of the floor is carried out in a short period of time.

Such heating and disadvantages are not without:

  • The high cost, though, according to many reviews, practically does not exceed the film infrared floor.
  • If the floor will warm for 24 hours, then the consumption of 1 m2 will be 35 KW for 30 days. This is too much expense.
  • Cannot be used as the main source of heat in a residential area.
  • Often the wire burns out. Because of this, the floors have to disassemble.

What to choose

What to choose

The first choice should be made, starting from the power of the infrared floor. If the laying of the heating will be performed in the apartment, the power should be in the region of 150-200 W / m2. For country houses, for example, for loggia insulation - 200-220 W / m2.

Note! The film thickness should be 0.3-0.4 mm. Silver paste should be on the copper lines and at the junction of the carbon band.

Also, the choice depends on the flooring used. If you are planning to lay tiles on the floor, then, of course, you need a rod infrared floor. If you prefer laminate, parquet and other similar flooring, the ideal option would be a film warm floor. Accordingly, you should understand that in each case the installation work will be different.

Note! Infrared floor heating can not be the main source of heat. Such heating is especially effective in apartment buildings where it is impossible to equip a water-heated floor.
