Modern wickets
If you do not want to install a sectional garage door with a wicket in your country, then the best option for you would be to make it yourself.
Making the gates and wickets with their own hands, modern home craftsmen use different materials.
So, as pillars for wickets can be used:
- Metal propswhich are made of a profile pipe of round, square or rectangular section. Such columns can be sold already with welded reinforcement.
Tip! If the surface of the metal column is not covered with plastic, the lower part, which is driven into the ground, must be treated with bitumen.
- Wood. They are made of hard wood, namely, from oak, larch, chestnut.
Tip! Before installing the wooden pole must be treated with a special protective composition, which is used to protect the tree from pests and moisture.

Wooden gate on wooden pillars
- Concrete pillars. Can be both with fittings, and without it.
- Brick. Such massive structures require the laying of a solid strip foundation. Otherwise, a fragile brick may crack, which sooner or later will lead to the collapse of the structure.
The foundation is concreted in a foundation, around which a decorative brick is being constructed. For the preparation of the concrete composition is used a mixture of crushed stone and cement with sand in the ratio of 1: 4.
To facilitate the work of experts advise the use of crushed stone fines. Such designs require a lot of space and accuracy in work.
The framework of the gate is most often made of such materials:
- Profiled metal pipes. Universal material that is best used if you decide to make wickets and gates with your own hands. Excellent basis for a cloth from a grid of the chain-link, tree, professional leaf, etc.
- Wood рейки. Этот легкий каркас отличает невысокая цена и простота монтажа. Дерево в качестве каркаса является менее долговечным, нежели профили.
The material for the canvas can be made of:
- Professional sheet (pictured below) is the most popular material, which has practically no flaws. It is durable, durable and has an acceptable price.

Assembly work
We consider the most simple and common method of manufacturing and installation of the gate and gate for the suburban area. The instruction provides for several steps.
Making the gate
As a frame we will use metal profiled pipes.
- Remove oil deposits and corrosion traces from pipes using a grinder with a metal brush in the form of a nozzle.
Tip! When working, be sure to use safety glasses to prevent chips and metal scale from getting into your eyes.

Brush-nozzle on the grinder to remove corrosion and oil deposits
- Treat the pipes with gasoline or a degreasing solvent.
- Apply a layer of anti-corrosion primer to the surface with a brush or spray gun. At the same time brush application provides a thicker layer of protection, and by means of the spray gun the coating gets a more attractive appearance.
- Gate welding is a very important stage. It is produced in several steps:
- Pipes with a cross section of 60 to 30 mm welded into a rectangular frame of the desired size.
- In the middle of the obtained frame, we weld the cross pipe 40 by 20 mm to increase strength.

Drawing wicket frame
- Our frame is almost ready. But in order to strengthen it on the pillars, you should weld the hinges. In order for the hinges not to “move out” during welding, it is desirable to strengthen them on the frame with self-tapping screws.

Welded loop.
- Grind the weld seams with a grinder and apply a layer of primer on the frame.
- We paint the frame with alkyd enamel for external work.
- After the paint has dried, go to the frame of the frame professional sheet. For this, roofing screws or special rivets are used.
- Gate production includes all the steps described above. They differ from the gates only in size.
Wicket installation
- To get started, install the support. It is best to use metal poles. We dig a hole under the pole. The pit should be so deep that the pillar goes into it for a third of its length. That is, for standard supports, a height of 1.7 meters should be provided for the pit, a depth of 70-80 cm.
- Install the pillar in the pit vertically through the level.
- Fill the pit with concrete and let it harden for 3 days.
- Welded to the support loop.
- We hang the gate on the hinges.
