Stone fence

Deciding to build a durable and strong fence around the house, it is wise to make it from stone. At the same time, the question of how to make a stone fence should not scare you.

It is not as difficult as it may seem at first glance. In our article we will consider this question. Also talk about the different types of stones.

The fence stone itself has been used since time immemorial as a building material. The only difference is that at present such fences are primarily a decorative role, acting as an element of landscape design.

The advantages and types of stone fences

Benefits

The advantages of such structures are based on the characteristics of the material used, because the stone for the fence has the following undeniable advantages:

  • its service life is not limited;
  • environmental friendliness and safety;
  • a different price, which depends on a particular type of mineral;
  • the ability to independently make a fence of such material.

Varieties

Stone fences primarily differ from each other in the type of material from which they are built. In this connection, isolated fences created from the following types of stones:

  • Natural stone (cobblestone, boulder) - it is inexpensive, and its strength is quite high. Often it is used, erecting a fence of corrugated stone.

Fencing with profiled sheeting

Such samples can be collected even independently in the fields. But they will not have a very beautiful gray color. Therefore it is worth buying boulders of red-brown color;

  • Pebbles and gravel - used very rarely because of its small size. Moreover, during the construction of their structures, the pillars and the base, as a rule, are made of brick. Thus, stone and brick fences at the same time turn out;
  • Dolomite stone - usually it is flat, may have a different shape and thickness. It is mined in quarries, where the explosion of rocks. Fences made of corrugated stone are also often faced with dolomite;
  • Limestone - it is moss-like, marble-like, and also shell rock. This is a rather soft material. Its significant disadvantage is that it collapses in a damp climate, so it requires special treatment before installation;
  • Sandstone - quite a popular look. Resistant to frost and moisture. Has a polished or hewn surface. Together with him, they often purchase metal profiles for stone fence;

Sandstone fencing

  • From rubble stone obtained fences of the original irregular shape. It is produced from sandstones, limestones or dolomites. They not only build fences from it, but also revet brick and stone fences;
  • Fake diamond - Recently becoming more and more popular. It is cheaper than natural material. It is a common concrete, which gave the appearance of a natural sample.
  • Slag stone as a material for the construction of fences is also very popular.

To distinguish such material from natural is very difficult. In the shops you can find samples of various colors and textures. For example, blocks for the fence of torn stone - they give originality and a special color to the fence.

Facing under a torn stone

Also, artificial blocks are often used for lining brick fences. This is a special design solution.

It can transform an unrecognizable building. In addition, the fence under the stone will be cheaper than its natural original. In this external the effect will be the same.

Another know-how of recent years is stone fences pergons. They are a metal lattice structure, inside of which stones are laid.

Decorated with additional decorative elements, they will look quite beautiful. To this end, you can use inserts from colored materials. Or, for example, decorative gardening (see photo).

Pergon with landscaping

Such designs do not require pouring the foundation. In addition, they are mobile - they can be disassembled, moved to another location and reassembled. Due to all this, pergon is gradually gaining popularity.

Installation of a stone fence

Having considered the types of these structures, we proceed directly to how to build such a fence. By itself, this process is not technologically complex, but will require a large number of forces. Moreover, this work is rather slow and painstaking.

Stage One - Planning

The construction of stone fences begins with planning. We draw a plan. It indicates the location of our future fencing, its length, height and width.

Then we determine the type of material used. Calculate the volume of material to be purchased.

The second stage - laying the foundation

Now we need to prepare a solid foundation with our own hands. It should be 60-80 cm deep and 50 cm wide. Also, be sure to reinforce it with reinforcement and only then pour it with concrete.

Making the foundation

Tip! The foundation must not be interrupted at the gates. Otherwise, the whole structure will not be reliable enough and it may skew over time.

After waiting a couple of days, we are preparing the formwork. We make it from boards, set it on the foundation and fasten it to the grillage.

We build the formwork

The third stage - laying the fence

The final stage, which is set by our instructions, is laying. First, we lay the solution on the foundation. Then we place stones on it so that they lie flat side out.

We fit them tightly to each other. The resulting voids are sealed with a solution. At the same time, we make sure that it does not fall on the front side of the material.

In case of contact, remove with a metal brush. It is impossible to flush with water, as with it cement can get into the stone.

It will spoil the natural color of the material, giving it a gray tint. Having finished the first row, we pass to the second only in a day.

This process is best seen clearly. To do this, watch the video posted on our website. It will clarify all the incomprehensible moments that will help you in the future work on the construction of stone fencing (also learn about what eurofences are).
