Sectional metal fence: do-it-yourself installation features

Fence

Among other types of fences, the metal sectional fence stands out not only for its durability, ease of installation, but also the possibility of increasing the visibility of the site.

This quality is especially convenient for gardeners and farmers, who get the opportunity to monitor their garden, ripening crop or poultry.

Manufacturing of metal fences

Fences of this type are made by the method of welded joints. In this case, sections must have additional supports - vertical pillars, which are driven into the ground or mounted in concrete.

The material from which sectional metal fences are most often made is welded steel bar, less often wire or netting, which is hot-dip galvanized in accordance with GOST 9.307-89.

Recently, new methods of strengthening and anti-corrosion treatment are increasingly common:

  • The polymer coating is colorless;
  • Polymer coating on phosphated base color;
  • Combining hot-dip galvanizing, phosphating and polymer coating is the most reliable and expensive method of treatment.

The advantages of sectional fences

Metal sectional fences are found in suburban areas in 3 cases out of 5. Someone prefers concrete eurofences, someone adheres to the ecological stylization of the landscape and selects wood fences.

But in general, a number of positive properties can be distinguished, allowing to make a choice in favor of the sections:

  1. It is an appropriate price.which will save the budget 3-4 times along with the same construction of a stone fence;
  2. Practicality and durability of the material: The treated metal sections of the fence are not afraid of corrosion, precipitation, fungus and mold, do not crumble with time, etc .;
  3. Durability and resistance to mechanical damage, deformation, friction;
  4. Long life with minimal renewal. The only thing that may be needed is the restoration of the polymer or paint layer in a dozen years;
  5. Ease of maintenance and installation;
  6. Fire safety and security of the territory in terms of unauthorized entry. Indeed, if the metal intake sections are made of sharp and often supplied rods, it will not be easy to overcome them;
  7. Large selection of shapes, sizes, types of sections (see figure).

Installation of the fence with his own hands

Tool and consumable

So, you have calculated the required number of sections around the perimeter of the territory and purchased fences.

In order to make the installation by hand, you need the appropriate tool:

  • To align the level of the installation - a thin kapron thread and level, as well as a flat level for the correction of the installation of pillars. In the absence of a level, you can use a hydro level or build it yourself;

Tip: for the correction of the plane of the pillars in large areas (25m and above), use a theodolite.

  • For a stable distance between the mounted pillars use spacers;
  • For compaction of the base for burrowing supports - tamper construction;
  • Also needed hand tools - trowel, screwdrivers, pliers and keys, shovels and scrap.

It remains to purchase quality cement grades M200 and higher, fine sand and crushed stone to knead the solution. Stir is recommended using a concrete mixer. To help take yourself a strong man, double strength will be needed to mount the pillars in the hole, install metal sections for the fence.

Tip: if the volume of the poured mortar exceeds 2 cubes, do not save and order industrial concrete and mixer machine.

Preparing the base

First, you need to mark the steps of the pillars for the fence. Here in the course is a level that will help determine the zero level of the landscape, which is marked with a peg.

It is also recommended to mark the first and last step with wooden stakes, with which to tighten and secure the nylon thread (see photo below). Or between them to establish a theodolite. A tape measure marks the subsequent places for the pillars and also fix the pegs.

Determining the level and marking of the base under the fence

This is followed by pouring the foundation, which you can learn more about in the video in this article.

In order to competently perform concreting, you need to have information about the properties of the soil:

  • frost penetration depth;
  • groundwater flow, etc.

It may be necessary to carry out drainage works: pour rubble with a layer of 100-150 mm to the bottom of the ditch, fill it with approximately the same layer of sand and compact it tightly with water.

We dig in pillars

It is recommended to choose the depth of the pit 50-70 cm depending on the composition of the soil. To avoid loosening the support, reinforcement in the form of stakes, rods is used. First, sections and pillars are assembled: the connection is made without final fixation.

Next, the finished section is installed in the wells, rammed with the help of props, and only then the concreting of the pillars is made, as shown in the photo below.

Tip: in the case of installation of the pillars on the finished formwork use the anchors with anchors - a kind of finished reinforcement for the posts.

Concreting pillars

It is recommended to check the level again before pouring concrete. Also, compliance with the plane can be corrected in the first hour after concreting, and if deviations are detected, correct it by adding mortar.

We collect the remaining sections

So, the first part of the work is done and the “pilot” installation is made.

Now the instruction for assembling the remaining fence:

  • The next panel is attached to the already fixed support by hinge using bolts and clips-clamps;
  • Level compliance is checked, then the next column is digged;
  • The panel (section) is also tacked to the new pole with the help of hardware and clips;
  • The section is fixed by expansion bolts or other coming type of fixture.
  • Concreting or fixing of the base column is carried out.

Then the process is repeated in a circle.

Conclusion

As can be seen from the article, it is not so difficult to install a sectional fence of metal on its own site. It is important to comply with the technology, level and time of exposure of concrete. The result is a durable and practical fence that will serve faithfully for many years.
