In ancient times, settlements were surrounded with hewn logs, this type of fence was called palisade, that is, often located stakes. Its purpose was clear - to protect against wild animals and the possible attack of small groups of enemies and bandits.

But, as they say, everything has to be repeated in nature, this fence has again become popular, and not only among those who like to decorate the site in retro style or in folk style (the connection with styles is the least traced).

I feel like saying: “The guard has departed by need.”

It is difficult to say definitely what is the purpose of the construction of a log fence, but since there is a demand for it, then why not clarify this question.

What, what and in what sequence

Paling does not mean boring.

The desire to fence the site with a fence is quite understandable. If your land and everything is clear according to the documents, then why not put a stationary fence that will serve you for a long time and hide from prying eyes what they don’t need at all.

Therefore, our instruction is designed to answer three basic questions:

• What material will we take;
• What is the order of processing wood from rotting;
• How we will exhibit the entire structure and the final touches to the portrait.

One thing can be said right away, if you decide to stop your choice on a wooden deaf fence of this kind of structure, then in order to give your fence a decent look, you will have to tinker with it.

Let's start with the materials

The main thing in this business is a tree.

There is no need to go to the fortuneteller, everything is clear, as they say, without words. The fence from the picket fence is erected from beaten, freed from the bark and other misunderstandings of cylindrical logs with a diameter of at least 10 cm.

A larger diameter of the log is allowed, but:

Tip! Wood is not plastic, it has weight, if you decide to make the installation yourself, without assistants, keep in mind that the log has a larger diameter, the harder it is to work with it, especially alone.

  When working with a tree, take into account the moment that a tree should be dug into the ground by one third for greater stability. This will help avoid the effect of sail, and in addition the fence will not collapse under its own weight, or its own weight + weight of snow or ice. • In addition, the classic picket fence has tapers on the end, which will not be difficult to make yourself a hatchet at an angle of 40 degrees (the perfect prototype of the picket fence is a sharpened pencil).

And, as we would not like, but it is subject to the unpleasant process of decay. And given that one third of the logs will be in the ground, this process will be inevitable, and its price will be a shortened section (or sections) of the fence, lying on the ground.

• To avoid this, the wood itself must be prepared: resinify the lower part, soak the upper part and paint it.. Our ancestors found a simple and versatile way to protect wood from rotting. It has been observed that charred wood is not attractive to bacteria responsible for decay, and such treatment may allow the material to be in the ground for a long time. To do this, it is not necessary to burn the entire log, it is enough to charmer an outer layer the size of one and a half centimeters, but the height must be taken with a margin of at least 20 cm from the ground;
• Modern processing techniques can significantly speed up this process by applying bitumen, or saturating the log with mining. However, the parameters remain the same, the impregnation must be sufficiently deep, and a height of 20 cm from the ground level and more. At the same time - the higher the better.

Assembly techniques

And you can just dig in.

There are two of them:

• Classical - great grandfather;
• Modern, with minimal headache.

1. The first technique known since the construction of this type of wooden fence. In Russia, all the significant work was carried out by the whole world, so this technique is applicable to the work of a team. And it consists in the following: the stake was hewed not only from above, but also from below. The “pencil” was inserted into the ground, the place under it was watered with water, and it was driven in with a heavy hammer to the stop. Further, the procedure was repeated until the cylinder did not enter, which is called until it stops - tightly and irrevocably, and only then did they move on to the next stake.

Interesting to know! In this technique, there is one nuance that requires certain skills. So, without calculating the force of the blow, you can split the log, as a result, spoil the material.

1. The second technique is more gentle and allows you to set the logs at the required level, even by one person. For installation around the perimeter breaks trench required depth. The prepared logs are stacked into it and filled with rubble and then with earth. After this, the stakes are aligned in height and fixed with two strips on each side. At the same time, the lower one recedes from the ground level by approximately 20 cm, and the upper one recedes from the level of the smooth edge of the log by 25 cm. and bottom indent. When building a capital fence of greater height, indents increase. Then the tamping of the earth takes place, the water is poured under the stakes, and the earth is added to the voids formed, the earth is added and then rammed again.

Stain plus lacquer, these are excellent materials.

Recently, the stains + varnishes have become very popular, although the stains separately and yacht varnishes give a more interesting effect. At the same time, the stain will only secrete the structure of the tree and cover it with the necessary protective layer, and the lacquer gives the product completeness, giving the tree water-repellent properties.
