How to choose and install metal pipes for the fence

Corner part of metal fence made of corrugated sheet
If you need to get a durable and reliable fence, which is enough for a lifetime, then metal pipes for fences are most often used as support pillars. Their installation is much cheaper than the construction of reinforced concrete and stone pillars, and durability when properly installed is almost the same.
After construction, regardless of what kind of trim you are using for the fence, you can be completely sure that it will not collapse in 5 years, unlike a tree that will quickly rot.
Types of metal pipe fences
Concrete pipes can be sheathed with the following materials:
- Tree - The cheapest, but short-lived option. Over time, plating will be required, but the pillars will be in perfect condition for a long time.
- Metal fence mesh chain-link (tension or sectional) - another budget option that completely transmits the sun's rays, but does not hide the site from the review.
- Wrought fence also completely transparent, but more reliable, beautiful and expensive.
- Decking - allows you to quickly create high "deaf" combined fences.

Features of metal pillars
- To increase the durability and impart anti-corrosion properties to the metal, it is necessary to coat the pipes with GF-021 primer and paint it with enamel.
- Profile pipes 50 * 50 and 60 * 60 mm are perfectly suitable for the lining with profiled sheeting, and for the door you need to install more powerful pillars 80 * 80 and 100 * 100 mm. The thickness of their walls must be at least 2 mm.
- For transverse lags, you can use rectangular pipes 40 * 20 with a wall thicker than 2.5 mm.
- It is recommended to keep the distance between the pillars 2-2.5 meters. This size of the spans allows you to securely fasten the casing, and give the desired rigidity so that during sudden gusts of wind it does not come off.
- It is also important to firmly dig poles into the ground. In clay soil it will be enough to deepen them by 70-90 cm, and in loose soil by 120-150 cm. The length of the pillars depends on the plating chosen by you and their deepening into the ground.
Counting materials
To calculate the required number of pillars, it is necessary to divide the perimeter of the site by the size of the span and add 3 pillars (for the gate and the gate).
For example, if the perimeter of your site is 150 meters and the spans are 2.5 meters, then the calculation will be as follows:
150 / 2.5 = 60 + 3 = 63 pillars.
To calculate the required lag length, multiply the perimeter of the fence by 2, as they go in 2 rows above and below, and add the length of the gate and the gate.
For those who want to save on the installation of the fence, it is worth mentioning the columns for the fence of plastic pipes and asbestos pipes. Of course, they are not as durable as metal, but much easier and cheaper.

Plastic pipes for the fence - this is the most economical solution for giving
If you want to install a temporary fence in the country, then they are perfect for attaching light trim (plastic panels, chain-link mesh, wood). For example, the price of an asbestos pipe with a diameter of 100 mm and a length of 3.95 m is only 300-400 rubles.
How to make a fence on the basis of metal pipes
First, we drive in the pegs at the corners of the section and the wicket and we stretch the cord over them. Along it with the same pitch we drive in pegs for intermediate pillars. On the border of neighboring areas, it is better to retreat 5 cm, so that later there is no misunderstanding.
After the end of the marking, first of all we dig holes in the corners and set up pillars. If the soil is soft, it can be done with a regular shovel, but it will be faster to drill them with a hand drill.
In order for the pipes to be more stable, it is necessary not only to dig them into the ground, but to pour concrete. To do this, after digging a hole, you need to pour a 10 cm layer of sand on the bottom, pour water on it and tamp it well.
Then the pole is checked on each side with a level and is set vertically. To prevent it from falling, we place wooden supports on all sides.
Between the outermost pillars along the top, we stretch the cord; it will help to place intermediate pillars in space and exactly in height. If some pits are deeper, just pour the sand to the bottom.
You can see how metal welded fences are made in practice in this video:
We install all the pipes and begin to boot. To do this, pour gravel into the wells with a fraction of 5-20 mm. Unlike concreting, bottling more reliably holds pillars in clay soil and costs less.
Tip! To save on rubble, you can use shards of red brick, tile or gravel for bucking. But such a material as a silicate brick is not suitable for this, it has low strength and high moisture absorption, due to which it can be greatly resized.
Then tightly tamp the hole and fall asleep coarse sand. Water is poured over it to better tamp it. The rest of the hole is filled with cement to the ground level. The photo shows an example of bumping a fence from a chain-link. For heavier cladding materials, it is necessary to increase the amount of rubble.

Installation of pipes for the fence in the ground
Instructions for making cement:
- 1 part cement;
- 4 pieces of sand;
- 4 pieces of fine rubble;
- 4 parts of water.
Tip! After installing the pillars, water will accumulate inside the pipes. To avoid this, you need to brew them on top or attach decorative visors.

Welding fence
After a few days, you can proceed to the mounting horizontal lag. Usually they are mounted on welding. In some cases, you can attach an additional stiffener diagonally or to the center. After welding, poles and cross pipes need to be painted.
Thus, the frame is completely ready, now it can be sheathed with any selected material. It will be necessary only to install a gate and gate for cars that can be made by hand from pipes of the same diameter. To do this, you need to weld the frame of the door and sheathe it. Then you need to weld the hinges and hang the door on the pole.
Conclusion
Each person can make a fence made of metal pipes, but this will require welding and experience. But even without a welding machine for joining pipes, you can use a mechanical fastening. That is why it is a good option for summer cottages, where inexpensive, but fast and reliable protection of property is needed.
