How to choose a lock for the gate
The constipation used outdoors in the street can be of a different type, although they are all made of stainless steel now and perform the same function. So, locks on gate and gates can be divided into cut-in (internal), consignment notes, mounted electric.
Below we talk about these devices, as well as see the video in this article.

Mortise constipation

Drawing mortise locking design AS2060 (1)
- The cylinder lock AS2060 (1) shown in the photo at the top in the color scheme is made in antique brass or satin nickel and is intended mainly for wooden doors. But such a lock can be successfully used for doors and gates of corrugated flooring, if they are sheathed with sheets on both sides, or in similar wooden structures. The most important when using mortise constipation, is to ensure their waterproofing, which corresponds to double-sided plating.

Narrow mortise locks for wickets
- But sometimes the design of the fence is such that narrow locks on wickets and gates are necessary, because there is no place to place the body of the locking device. This is commonly found in structures welded from a metal profile or a corner. If a 40 × 40 mm or 40 × 60 mm profile was used to manufacture the gate or gate, then such a mechanism would easily fit in its internal cavity.
- Such street locks on the gate were specially developed for mounting into the profile cavity, therefore they are most in demand in all outlets among their counterparts. To install the mechanism, it must be attached to the profile (the place where it will be installed) and mark on it the location of the mask and the mounting holes. Using a sword, cut the threads for the mounting bolts, and under the mask you can expand the drilled hole with a grinder.

Street lock on the gate is inserted into the profile
- After cutting out all the marked holes, do not rush to fasten the lock for the outdoor wicket, but simply insert it and try how it will function, and only if you are convinced that the device case is not clamped anywhere and the mechanism is working properly - insert the handles and screw in the fixing bolts . After that, check the closing-opening function a few more times, because even a slight friction of the tongue against the profile or the slightest torsion of the case during rigid fixation can interfere with the correct operation.
Council If the profile from which the gate or gate is made is so narrow that the mechanism to be installed does not enter its cavity, then you will have to weld the box. It can be made from a metal corner, but it is better from a piece of the profile of a larger section, since its walls are thinner.
Padlocks

The padlock on the gate of wood
- Much easier is the case with the overhead locking mechanical devices, because such wicket locks are simply screwed to the plane. If possible, of course, they should be protected from precipitation from them, therefore, they equip something like canopies for such mechanisms. In this case, the water flowing down the plane will not flow into the mechanism.
Combination locks

Laid on mechanical combination lock
- If you are interested in a secret lock on the gate, then you can install a coded locking device. Such a mechanism works due to certain movements of the pins and rings, and with a certain combination of numbers these elements occupy a certain position, which triggers the tongue. The code can be changed at its discretion, at least every day and it does not at all look like familiar devices to everyone in the hallways.
Council If you often lose your keys or you need increased security, then code locks are designed for you. It is impossible to open it with a master key (there is simply no place to put it in) and it is practically impossible to guess the secret code. If necessary, you can use a similar device with an electric drive.
Padlocks

Padlock with chain at the gate
- The easiest way is to hang such a device on the gate or gate with your own hands, as shown at the top of the photo - it's a painfully familiar picture - isn't it? Indeed, padlocks are in demand, as quite convenient mechanisms and, by the way, can also be code. Handles they are made of metal, but in modern mechanisms, they are increasingly made from a cable.
Electric locks

Electromechanical lock
- Electromechanical locks on the gate can be divided into two types - mortise and overhead, but they all have at least two bolts in stock. One of these bolts will be cocking, that is, when the lock is closed, it hides inside and thereby cocks all devices, preparing them for closing. The second is controlled by a solenoid and when voltage is applied to it, the whole system starts moving, opening the lock.
- The whole system will be in the “open” state until the door opens and closes again, that is, the system is reset as it were. In addition, the device can be closed and opened with the usual key, which is surely supplied in the kit. Such locks are often installed on a sectional garage door with a wicket door, allowing them to be opened even when there is no power supply.

Electromagnetic lock
- The locking devices operating on an electromagnet are fairly simple in their principle, although the instruction manual there is quite large. When power is applied, the coil is excited and magnetized panel, then it clings to another panel, which is attached to the door frame. To open such a device, it is enough just to interrupt the supply of voltage - the magnetic pulses will disappear and the sash will “stick out”.
- The problem with such a device is that it requires a constant supply of power, and this is not possible everywhere, as there may be interruptions. Therefore, for correct operation in such cases, use an uninterruptible power supply.
Council When installing an electromagnetic lock, it is necessary to equip the gate with a closer so that there are no sharp blows. At the slightest displacement of the plates, the device will cease to operate, so take this seriously.
Conclusion
When choosing a device for closing gates and / or wickets, first of all pay attention to how important the power of the locking device is (see also the article on electric locks on the wicket). The price of the lock will depend on this, but costly constipations are not always necessary, because sometimes symbolic closing is enough.
