The combination of electrics and mechanics provides reliable protection

In order to maximally protect your site from outside penetration, many today are not limited to installing common bolts and bolts. Electromechanical locks for outdoor wickets and other complex devices are no longer a wonder today, moreover, it is becoming less and less common to find a courtyard in which the gates are locked without the use of complicated electronics.

The combination of electricians and mechanics

Varieties by type of installation

The electromechanical lock for the gate, by and large, is not too different from the traditional mechanical constipation. A key feature of the design of such devices is the presence of the electrical part, which provides control of the locking mechanism using the keyboard for dialing code, the receiver for the key or magnetic card.

The electronic device unlocks the lock mechanism, and due to this, it opens.

Complete set of invoice model

By design, such devices are:

  • Overhead. Outwardly, almost indistinguishable from a simple padlock. External placement of the cylinder makes it possible to open the gate in case of an unexpected power outage. From the inside there is also a mechanical element for forced opening, so you should not worry that the sash will be locked in the locked position.

The gate with an electromechanical lock can be opened both inwards and outwards - for this, select the appropriate modification. It is also worth paying attention to the orientation of the lock case, since they may differ for right- and left-side flaps.

  • Mortise. They are installed both on the entrance doors and on the gate in the fences. "Advanced" models are equipped with additional deadbolts (vertical bolts included in the three-point locking system), as well as combined with intercoms. Such lock will be suitable for a gate from a professional flooring.

Work with electronic key

Note! The most effective is a system operating in two modes: "day" is controlled from the intercom, and "night" provides the most reliable locking of the gate.

Principle of action

In addition to placement, electromechanical locks on the gate are also classified according to the principle of operation. Depending on how the locking and unlocking of the mechanical bolt occurs, the devices are:

  • Electro-blocking. In the closed state, the latch fits into the groove on the striker plate and securely secures the sash. To open the gate, it is necessary to supply power: in this case the spring retainer is reset and the latch is inserted back into the case. The latch can be pulled in either with a key or with a magnetic card.

Note! Models with electric locks are equipped with very powerful locking springs, because the bolts are equipped with carbide nozzle, which reduces wear.

  • Motor. The mechanism is driven by the operation of a miniature (24 V) electric motor. Due to the fact that the latch of a closed device is constantly under pressure, it is almost impossible to squeeze the bolt. However, some motor models allow you to choose the number of bolts to activate: one latch is used in day mode, and all of the strike strips are activated at night.

An important feature of the motor locks is the time delay of opening. The latch is inserted into the case not immediately after the receipt of a signal from the reader, but after a while, which is either selected in the settings or specified initially in the lock design. Such locks can be installed on the gate with their own hands.

Lock device

  • Solenoid. Another type of locking device in which the bolt moves under the influence of magnetic fields. Solenoid devices can be equipped, for example, with a garage sectional door with a wicket, but it is worth remembering that for the operation of the lock, the presence of current in the network is necessary.
  • Electric strikes are almost perfect electromechanical locks for wickets. When voltage is applied from the controller, the latch is released and the latch can be opened by turning the knob. This design is quite convenient because, if necessary, allows you to leave the gate open.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages that these devices have are obvious: it is both high reliability, durability, and the ability to use in a variety of situations. Yes, and the price of devices varies widely, so if you want you can choose a completely budget model.

In addition, electromechanical schemes can be combined with other security systems, and installing a video intercom with an electromechanical lock on the gate, you will have the opportunity, without leaving home, to decide whether to allow the visitor in or go out to him independently.

Visor to protect from moisture is not superfluous

However, this construction cannot be called universal. This is due to a number of features that many experts attribute to disadvantages:

  • The lock bolt protruding from the web end can cause damage to clothing or injury.
  • In some cases, considerable effort is required to unlock the latch.
  • Propensity to fail at low temperatures and high humidity.
  • The need for a permanent electrical connection.

Despite this, many still choose electromechanical locking devices for metal fences, and therefore we will explain below how to install a patch lock on a gate, gate or door.

Mounting the castle

Ideally, the installation of an electromechanical lock on the gate should be carried out by certified craftsmen. Especially important is the professionalism of the performers in the case when the installation of a complex multicomponent system.

And yet, if you have an instruction on the lock, you can install it yourself. First of all, it concerns fairly simple overhead models, since the cut-in devices are an order of magnitude more difficult to assemble.

All work is performed according to the following scheme:

  • We attach parts of the lock to the frame and sash in such a way as to estimate the gap between the mechanism and the strike plate. The optimal distance is 5 mm, however, small indents are allowed for the door structures, if only the length of the latch ensures fixation.
  • We apply the main part of the lock on the canvas of the gate, and apply markings for fastening. By marking we drill holes, and fix the device on the sash and using the screws included in the kit.
  • Crown make a hole for the installation of the cylinder.
  • Fasten the main part with the lid open on the canvas, and the counter part - on the wicket frame. Check the operation of the mechanism.

Connection diagram for a complex system

    • Separately (if the design provides for it) install the keyboard or key card reader.

  • Using plastic covers, draw the power cable to the lock. The stripped ends of the wire are connected to the terminals of the electrical part of the locking device, after which we apply voltage in test mode.
  • Powered lock test for opening-closing. In the absence of malfunctions in the work close the lid.

findings

By selecting and installing an electromechanical mortise lock on the gate, or its simpler invoice option, you provide reliable protection for your home against uninvited guests.

But it is worth remembering that such locking devices are complex, therefore, they need some care. In the presented video in this article you will find additional information on this topic.
