Combined fences: combining different materials

The combination of "masonry + decking"

The combined fences from a professional flooring represent one of rather popular versions of the protecting designs. The main advantage of the fences of this type is their aesthetic appearance, since the brick supports visually “ennoble” the fence.

At the same time, the erection of such a fence is a more complicated process than the installation of a conventional corrugated fence. In our article we will try to pay attention to the distinctive features associated with the construction of the foundation and brick supports.

What we need

Since the combined fence is a more complex structure than a regular professional sheet fence, we will need a somewhat more extensive list of building materials:

Professional sheet for the fence

  • The first is, of course, the decking itself. Since brick pillars have considerable strength, it is possible to choose a profiled sheet with a lower wave height.
  • Next we need the frame elements. As a frame, it is best to use a 40x40 or 60x60 mm shaped pipe, or a round pipe of comparable diameter. These pipes are installed inside the brick support and provide its strength.
  • For the supporting pillars of the gate, as well as for the corner pillars, you can use a more durable frame. A professional pipe of 100x100 mm or two channels of 100x50 mm, welded in pairs, are suitable here.
  • Lags are used the same as for the usual profnastilnoy hedge.
  • As for the brick, it is best to use decorative varieties. Allowed to use bricks with both straight and with a beveled corner.

Decorative facing material

All other materials are needed to fill the foundation and the erection of pillars. We will need cement, sand, gravel, fasteners for corrugated board, etc.

Tip! If you are planning to make a truly durable and reliable foundation, then you may need metal fittings. The price of the structure will naturally increase, but the increase in strength makes these costs justified.

Depending on the design features, you may need other materials - but we will mention them already in the course of describing the process of erecting a fence.

We build a combined fence

Foundation laying

Since brick supports for the fence have a significant mass, we definitely cannot do without a foundation.

Moreover, the foundation is the most important and laborious part of the fence:

  • To begin with, with the help of wooden pegs and cords, we transfer the plan of our future fence to the terrain.

Trench under the strip foundation

  • Then proceed to digging the foundation pit. Where there will be supports, we make indentations up to 1 - 1.2 meters, and between them lay trenches about 200 mm wide and 300-400 mm deep. This type of foundation is called strip, and provides a much greater structural strength (see also the article Tape foundation for the fence - how to build correctly).
  • If necessary (if you plan to make the foundation above the ground) we install wooden formwork.
  • To enhance the mechanical characteristics of the foundation, we lay in the trench reinforcement - metal rods of 8-10 mm, connected or welded to each other.

Tip! Placing the reinforcing rods, we make sure that they are no less than 25-30 mm from the basement planes.

  • At the bottom of the trench we fall asleep a layer of sand and rubble (10 cm), after which we tamp it thoroughly.

Support in trench

  • We install metal support poles to the places defined for them, align them vertically and fix them with braces.
  • Fill the foundation with a solution (0.75 water: 1 part of cement M 500: 3 parts of sand: 4-5 parts of crushed stone).

Tip! To improve the quality of the foundation, you can add a plasticizer to the solution. The easiest way to use liquid soap in an amount of 0.1% by weight of cement used.

Flooded foundation leave for at least 20 days.

Ready foundation with installed supports

Mounting pillars

Brick laying begins only after the mortar has completely set. However, in the event that we plan to make a profile-making combined fence with brick pillars, the mortgages must be welded to the pipes installed in the foundation. Lags and loops for gates and wickets will be attached to these mortgages later.

Masonry support column

  • In most cases, for masonry brick columns invite specialist mason. At the same time, having studied the videos posted on our website, after some practice, you can fold such supports with your own hands.
  • Corner and gate supports are placed “in two bricks” (section 510x510 mm). Intermediate pillars can be made thinner - “one and a half bricks” (section 380x380 mm).

Laying of masonry in a half and two bricks

  • In the cavity between the support pipe and the brickwork pour the same solution as inside the foundation. On the one hand, this increases the mass of the fence, but on the other, it significantly increases its strength.
  • The height of the pillar is determined by the planned height of the fence.
  • In order to avoid premature destruction of the masonry, the upper part of the support is covered with a metal cap, such as shown in the photo (see also the article Caps on the fence posts: purpose and installation).

Decorative caps

Tip! The surface of the pillars should be treated with special impregnation, which will prevent the appearance of white spots on the masonry - efflorescence.

Installation of fence elements

After the poles have been standing for about three weeks, you can begin to complete the work:

  • We weld or fasten metal logs with the help of brackets. Lags are painted to reduce the risk of corrosion.

Note! In some cases, the logs are welded to the support pipe before laying the pole.

  • The surface of the foundation is covered with rags to protect the material during installation work.
  • By lags with special screws fix sheets sheeting. Instructions for fastening a profiled sheet are placed in the appropriate section of the site.
  • We put on special profiles protecting the steel core from moisture on the ends of the profiled sheet.
  • We attach metal hinges to the mortgages installed in the masonry of the door posts. On the hinges hang doors or wicket gate.

Ready fence

As you can see, combined fences are set up somewhat more complicated than ordinary fences made of profiled metal material (see also the article Metal Profile for Fence — a top-class job). At the same time, the combination of profiled sheet with brickwork provides a fence of a presentable appearance, and the mechanical properties of the supports ensure reliability of the fence. So try, definitely, for the sake of something!
