Choose a fence for the fence: sheet size and marking
During the construction of any object, it is important to correctly make the initial calculations, make a list of the necessary materials and tools, so that later there is no need to re-purchase. Incorrect calculations can increase the shipping cost of several thousand.
In this article we will tell you about the calculation of corrugated board: we indicate the standard size of the profiled sheet for the fence, the cost of the material and other expenses.

Original professional sheeting
Decking for the fence
Profiled sheet has 3 types of marking:
- H - used for roofing;
- With - it is applied to fences, walls, partitions;
- NA - material with this marking is applicable for the construction of walls and roofs.
It is also sometimes possible to meet the marking of sheets with the letter A and R. Only A-profiles are suitable for building fences, since they are painted on a certain side and do not have a hydraulic seal around the edge.
The most optimal metal profile for the fence is marked C10, C20, C21, HC35. The number after the letter indicates the height of the corrugations in millimeters. The use of recommended species makes the structure stiff and inexpensive.
In addition to standard one-sided coatings, for the covering of fences, you can also use bilateral and decorative coatings "under the tree."
Characteristics of sheeting
The maximum length of sheets may be different for each manufacturer. It can reach from 0.4 to 12-14 meters, but standard sheets have a height within 2 meters.
Note! The dimensions of the metal profile for the fence and roof are described in the following regulatory documents: GOST 24045-2010 - describes the requirements of profile sheets for construction made of galvanized steel.
In the production of profiles with zinc coating quality of the material must comply with the requirements of GOST 14918-80. The quality of the material with a polymer coating is specified in GOST 30246-94.
The size of a professional leaf for a fence of marking C8 (mm):
- full width 1200;
- useful width 1150;
- wall thickness from 0.4 to 0.8;
- profile height 8;
- spacing between ribs 62.5.

Corrugated C8
The size of a professional flooring for a fence of the C10 brand (mm):
- width 1155;
- working width 1100;
- rib height 10;
- stiffener spacing 45;
- metal thickness from 0.4 to 0.8.

Profile sheet C10
The size of a sheet of a professional flooring for a fence of C20 (mm):
- width (full) 1150;
- width (working) 1100;
- the height of the corrugations 20;
- stiffeners are located in 137.5 steps;
- material thickness from 0.45 to 0.7.
Sizes of a professional sheet for a fence of C21 (mm):
- total width of metal 1051;
- used width 1000;
- the height of the ridges 21;
- thickness from 0.4 to 0.7;
- size between waves 65;

Appearance and primary colors of professional sheet C21
Dimensions of corrugated board for HC35 (mm):
- sheet width 1060;
- used surface width 1000;
- rib height 35;
- wall thickness may be equal to 0.5-0.9;
- pitch between ribs 70;
The peculiarity of HC35 is the presence of grooves on the internal and external edges, which are designed for permanent formwork.
Note! At installation of a professional flooring, there can be a problem in gaps on joints of sheets. This is due to the fact that one edge of the edge is smaller than the other. In order to avoid such a problem, the smaller edge must overlap with a larger one, and not vice versa.

Required materials for construction
A standard set of materials for building fences do it yourself, consists of the following elements:
- Sheets profiled.
- Metal poles or pipes with a round or square cross section. They are installed vertically indented 2.5-3 meters.
- Cross pipes that need to be fixed in 2 rows (if the pillars are higher than 2 m, then there may be more).
- X-brackets or welding for mounting crossmembers.
- Colored roofing screws or rivets for fastening professional sheets.
- Paint and primer to protect metal surfaces from corrosion.
Example of calculation of materials

Scheme of construction fencing
To perform the calculations, it is necessary to measure the length of the perimeter of the site, to determine the width and position of the gate. After you have learned the necessary data and decided on the choice of the brand of metal profile, you can calculate the material consumption using the dimensions of the sheet for the fence, which we indicated above (see also the article Calculation of the fence from corrugated board: calculator, calculation diagram and scheduling).
Suppose we decided to make a fence, the perimeter of which is 100 m, and the standard height - 2 m, therefore, we will take the casing of this height. For covering the fence, we will use a professional sheet C20. The posts need to be fixed every 2.5 meters. If you buy ready-made gates, subtract their width from the perimeter.
In our case, the instructions for the calculation of materials will be as follows:
- We divide 100 m (perimeter) by 1.1 m (useful width C20) = 90.9. It is advisable to make a stock, so we will buy 92 sheets.
- Now count the number of pillars. We divide 100 meters by 2.5 and get 40 pieces, add to this amount 3 pillars for the gate and the gate, we get 43 pieces. Their height is calculated taking into account the deepening into the ground by 1-1.5 meters.
- To calculate the lag simply multiply the total perimeter by 2 rows, we get 200 meters of transverse pipes.
- We buy fasteners at the rate of 8 pieces per square meter (approximately every 12.5 cm). To do this, we calculate the surface area, multiplying its height by the length: 2 * 100 = 200 m2. 200 * 8 = 1600 fasteners.
The total cost of construction will depend on your chosen profiled sheet, the height of the fence, the amount of lag, the method of mounting the pillars, the presence of the gate and the gate. The photo below shows the approximate cost of construction, at which you can compare the costs of different configurations.

Price comparison for metal profile fences
As you can see, galvanized sheathing will cost the least. The polymer coating will cost almost the same, but its appearance is much more presentable. Bilateral polymer coating is the most expensive, but it protects the metal from corrosion as much as possible, and increases beauty on both sides.
Conclusion
The data that we have provided in this article will help you calculate in advance the required amount of materials and the cost of creating a fence (see also the article Building a fence from corrugated flooring with your own hands, the gardener's guide). You will be able to calculate building materials on your own, and come to the store with a ready list of necessary purchases.
