Facade

One of the oldest methods of finishing facades of buildings is the application of facade plaster. This material has been known since time immemorial and is one of the main among the variety on the market. Of course, today's material is significantly different from the one used by the ancestors. There are a number of materials, united for ease of understanding by one name - facade plaster.

Types of plaster

Types of materials

On the market you can find several types of plaster for facades, which will differ both in composition and in their characteristics and properties:

  • Acrylic based plaster. Available in the form of ready-to-use composition, which, after application, allows the walls to "breathe". That is, in this way natural ventilation will be provided, and the walls will not become damp as a result of temperature drops inside and outside the room.
  • Silicone-based plaster. It should be noted that this material is quite expensive, so its use is not always advisable from the point of view of economy, but at the same time it has excellent coating strength.
  • Plaster on the basis of mineral materials. This refers to the use of cement or lime. It should be noted that this type of plaster is the most affordable and if you plan to do the work yourself, then this is the best option.

Application technology

When the choice of plaster is made, you can proceed to its application to the wall. It is worth noting that this process is not particularly difficult, however, it requires certain skills and experience. And also it must be said that it is necessary to conduct it in several stages.

Training

Surface preparation

At this stage it is necessary to prepare the walls for putting plaster on them. To do this, dismount all protruding parts. If there is an old coating, it is also removed. It should be borne in mind that the walls after all these manipulations should be as smooth as possible.

If caverns occur, i.e. cavities of irregular shape, or vice versa, bulges, they must be eliminated with the help of special materials and physical effort.

For better adhesion of the plaster with the surface of the walls on them it is necessary to make the seams. Their depth should be a few millimeters.

After that you need to prepare the very plaster. At the same time it is necessary to take into account its appearance. That is, if a ready-made composition is used, the cooking process consists in opening the can, but if you use plaster, which is sold as a dry mix, the process is somewhat more complicated. It is required in strict accordance with the attached instructions to dilute the mixture with water and mix until a homogeneous mass, which by its consistency will resemble thick cream or pastry cream.

Preparation of the mixture

However, if there is a desire to save money, then the plaster can be made independently. One of the most simple and affordable combinations is a mixture of cement and sand in a ratio of 1/3: one part of cement to three parts of sand. As for the brand of cement used, M400 should be highlighted. This composition is well applied and has excellent strength characteristics.

So, mix the cement and sand with water to the desired consistency. When mixing, it is most convenient to use an electric drill with a special nozzle-mixer. During preparation for applying the composition to the walls, it is extremely useful to calculate in advance the approximate consumption of facade plaster. It should be noted that it will mostly depend on the thickness of the applied layer.

You can prepare a certain amount of solution, apply it on the wall, and then measure the area of the treated part. Further, it is necessary to divide the total surface area assumed for the coating by the area of the resulting part. The result is rounded up and will mean how many times more will be needed to finish the entire surface.

Note! If we are talking about a coating thickness of about a centimeter, then about 1.5 kg of cement will be required per square meter.

Application process

When the preparatory work is completed, it will be possible to begin applying the plaster on the wall. For these purposes, the trowel is usually used. It is necessary to throw plaster on the wall, and it should be done in such a way that it does not splash too much.

Tool for work

Depending on the desired texture of the coating, the surface is either leveled or processed using special textured rollers. Thus, you can get a relief surface with a texture resembling the bark of a tree.

After applying the plaster over the entire area of the walls, it must be left to dry.

General rules of work

When carrying out this type of work, regardless of what technology of application of facade plaster is used, or what type of plaster is used, it is necessary to follow a number of general rules:

  • It is impossible to plaster just erected walls. They will inevitably shrink, which means that the applied plaster will crack or even fall off.
  • Smooth or texturize the layer after a certain time after application. If you start to carry out these works immediately after application, the plaster is likely to lag behind the surface. However, if you wait a long time, the solution will become too hard and unusable.
  • If it is intended to apply several layers of plaster, it should be noted that the thickness of one layer should not be more than 1.5–2 cm.

Concluding the above, it is worth a few words to say that the process of applying plaster can be somewhat difficult for a beginner. This can be seen by viewing the video from the master classes of professionals. Therefore, for the first time, in order, first of all, to save your own nerves, you should turn to the services of specialists.
