Led facade lighting
There are many ways to make a building stand out. This can be done by painting it in a bright color or making fancy shapes of windows and doors. But there is another option that is much prettier and more efficient - this is LED facade lighting.
Types of facade lighting
On how correctly the project to illuminate the facade of a building will be prepared and implemented, will depend on whether the weaknesses disappear or, on the contrary, become obvious to all. All this kind of highlighting can be divided into two main groups:
- functional;
- architectural or decor lighting.
The first type is created by a greater degree for the convenience of those who live or visit the building. Usually, these are suspended lights that are placed above the entrances or flight of stairs.
The architectural version has its own subspecies:
- Flooding High-power searchlights, which are built on SMD LEDs, are used for it. Their performance can be very different: from 50 to 300 watts and more, which is equivalent to conventional lamps passing thousands of watts. Lamps are sent to the building in such a way as to highlight and label it. Usually the beam goes from the bottom up, it visually makes the structure even higher. The color scheme may be very different. It may vary with time. Usually, a very powerful diffuser, which spreads the beam over the entire surface, is provided for the floodlight.
- Contour. From the name it becomes clear that it is intended to designate or highlight both certain areas and the outlines of the whole building. It can be mounted directly on the surface or in special niches. For this method of illumination, LED strip is best suited, which has IP 68 protection. RGB-elements can act as emitters, they will give the opportunity to change the glow color without additional modifications.
- Background It is also called silhouette lighting. The beam is focused so that the main contours are darkened. In this case, the building appears out of nowhere. Usually for this method, spotlights are placed at the back. For this option, the same fixtures are applicable as in the case of floodlighting.
- Dynamic This is a very interesting kind of lighting. It can include all types of architectural lighting. Its essence lies in the fact that the intensity of the emitters, as well as their color change according to a given program. For this purpose, various controllers are used, which can be programmed either by timer or by the time of day.
- Dot or local. Very similar with the functional. But his goal is not to create convenience for people. It is designed to allocate only a certain part of the building. For example, it may be a coat of arms, which is made on the facade, a flag or emblem.
- New Year's. It combines a combination of all the options plus decoration. Contour lighting can take the form of various animals or silhouettes of people. Most often, a combination with a controller that responds to changing music bitrate is performed. Due to this, the intensity of the color or light can vary depending on the playing melody.
Note! When the spotlight cannot be placed at a sufficient distance, then various filters can be used that either scatter the flow or mute it slightly.
Individual approach
In the case of facade lighting, you cannot use a template approach. Each building is individual - which is good for one, it can be very ugly for another. Not all types of architectural lighting are suitable for a private house. Flood and silhouette lighting may be too bright and disturb the neighbors. In this case, the local or contour will be relevant. To some extent, you can use and dynamic. The main thing is that the amplitude of changes in the power of light and color does not create unpleasant sensations among the inhabitants of nearby houses.
Note! It is better when the lighting project is laid together with the construction project. Then the masters can take into account the angle of incidence of light when decorating.
Connect your own hands
In fact, to make the facade lighting at home, there is nothing difficult. To do this, it is enough to know some basics and apply fantasy.
- Carefully inspect the building and note its strengths and weaknesses.
- All lamps that are placed on the street must be protected from moisture and dust.
- All connections must be tightly sealed, insulated and, if possible, be under the coating.
- For LED strip used step-down transformers. Never skimp on power, better take with a margin. You will be able to connect an additional circuit without extra costs.
- Rope of a certain type can be connected without converters.
- Transformers are mounted where possible indoors. If this needs to be done on the street, then put them in a sealed box.
- Pay attention not only to the facade, but also to the surrounding landscape.
- Do not be afraid to combine different elements with each other.
- Prior to installation, sum up the total load and evaluate the capabilities of your wiring.
- For LED strip can be made of niche aluminum profile.
Note! If you are not sure how this or that element should be connected or it is difficult for you to calculate the total load, then for installation it is better to invite a specialist in your field. It will cost you a certain amount, but the security of the system will be high.
