Installation of ground siding itself
External repair work is one of the important tasks during construction. When a facade is necessary to protect the base, for example, install basement siding, because the base is most exposed to adverse external environmental influences. If you have the desire and basic skills, installation of basement siding can be done independently.
What is grounding siding
This material is usually made for facade finishing in the form of panels made, as a rule, of vinyl.
- Siding is completely immune to UV and moisture, and also easily tolerates temperature drops from -50 to +50 degrees Celsius.
- Plinth facing fire resistant.
Note! Vinyl basement siding is quite plastic due to the special additives in its composition, which means it can easily withstand the contractions and expansions that occur when weather conditions change.
- The average life of the material is 50 years, during which it does not require any additional treatment with any liquids.
- Due to its lightness siding does not create an additional load on the foundation.
- The disadvantages of this outer cladding material include its flammability.
How he is
As a rule, the surface of the material imitates the texture of bricks, natural stone, shingles, and the colors and designs of the siding are so diverse that they are difficult to calculate. The price of the material is highly dependent on the degree of complexity of the textured pattern. The market for finishing materials can provide siding with hardly visible joints, resulting in a feeling of integrity of the basement pattern. When buying a finishing material, it is important to choose one batch of goods. Usually the batch number is written on the packaging or labeling itself. It is necessary to follow this because the material from different batches can differ significantly in color.
How to fix
In order to properly finish the exterior facade, special skills are not required, which means that everyone will be able, using the instructions, to make installation of the basement siding with their own hands.
First of all, the facade must be prepared for installation. As a rule, the dimensions of the siding panel are 50 by 120 cm. It is absolutely necessary to know how to fix the basement sadding. Fastening is made on the crate. There are cases when basement siding is used to design the entire facade of the house, and not just the basement.
The insulation of the house in this case can also be made as if the usual cladding material was used, but to protect the insulation from moisture, a protective film should be installed.
Installing crates
Mount the crate is necessary on a clean flat wall according to the following scheme:
- Because of the fragility of the wooden beam in the case of its direct adhesion to the ground, the main material for creating the crates are metal guides. Before installation, you must make sure that the installation is level.
- The height of the batten is selected in accordance with the climatic conditions of the region and, if in winter the ground surface freezes through, it is raised 15 cm above the ground.
- Installation instructions for siding provides the possibility of creating both horizontal and vertical crates.
An equal pitch is set between the guides of the batten: for the horizontal one - 45 cm, for the vertical one - 90 cm.
If the crate is still made using wooden bars, they should be pre-treated by impregnation in order to increase their resistance to moisture.
Note! We must not forget about the need to install the upper and lower ebb.
When the installation of the lathing is done, it is necessary to proceed directly to the installation of the siding. To determine the number of panels needed, the total length of the wall should be divided by 102 cm.
- To begin with, the starting rake is mounted. It is attached strictly in a horizontal position on a pre-made markup.
- At the corners of the building establish internal and external corner elements.
- Galvanized nails with a wide cap of 30–40 mm in length serve as fastening for panels and rails, however, they can be replaced with screws of the same length with a press washer.
- To prevent damage to the panels during interseasonal expansion and contraction, self-tapping screws and nails do not hammer and twist to the end, but so that there is a minimum gap, which is usually 1-1.5 mm.
- For this, the corners of the structure at the joints leave a gap of 5–10 mm. Outside, it will not be noticeable, since it will hide the corner-platband.
The installation of the siding itself is carried out in the following sequence, starting from the left corner:
- The panel is cut off along the left edge to form a smooth edge in case the basement siding is made under natural stone or brick.
- The siding sheet is inserted into the corner-platband, the starting bar and then fixed on the crate.
- The subsequent panel is joined to the previous one by connecting the grooves and it is also attached to the crate.
- The final panel is also cut to the desired size, fasten and hide the joint corner-platband.
- The procedure is performed with the entire base and at the end set the finishing bar.
Tips
Here are some helpful siding installation tips:
- Always move from left to right; You should not start the installation of the second wall, not finished the first.
- Installation should always start from the bottom.
- Keep the panels necessary on the edge.
- For insulation, it is best to use breathable materials.
- It is necessary to choose galvanized or aluminum nails for fastening in order to avoid the appearance of rust stains.
- Cut the siding with a circular saw or a hacksaw with small teeth.
- Do not simultaneously mount more than two corners.
- Ground siding is not intended for facing floors and roofs, it can be mounted only on vertical surfaces.
- Finishing the second and subsequent walls can be started with trimming from working on the first one to save material.
- To give the facade a natural look, shift each row by 20–30 cm in relation to the other.
- When installing the panels in freezing temperatures, they must be preliminarily kept warm for about 10 hours, during which time the flexibility of the panel will increase significantly, which will facilitate installation.
- It is not necessary to press firmly on the fastening locks of the panels, however, it is necessary to monitor their fixation.
If after all of the above, there are still doubts about the possibility of installing siding without the help of professionals, they will help you to clearly understand all the intricacies of the video, after studying which you can safely take up the installation.
