Finishing the facade of a wooden house
First, to begin with, you need to figure out - why do something to do with the facade of a wooden house? After all, a tree is in itself a material that looks beautiful without any additional manipulations with it. But the fact of the matter is that the decoration of the facade of a wooden house is also needed in order to preserve this beauty and emphasize it as long as possible.
What is the reason for the popularity
Wood is a natural material that in its natural form burns well and rots relatively quickly. At some point, it seemed that concrete and brick had forced wood from the construction market. As it turned out - nothing like that. Wooden houses are currently incredibly popular. Why? It's simple:
- Of course, the environmental friendliness of the material.
- Ability to build a house on soft ground.
- The tree has a low thermal conductivity, due to which the house turns warm. From here - profitability.
- Aesthetics of construction.
- The possibility of combining with other building materials.
The construction of a wooden house will cost several times cheaper than brick, and later the cost of its operation will be quite reasonable.
Let's take a closer look at how to decorate the facade of a wooden house.
Options for finishing the facade of a wooden house
Before starting any of the finishing works, the surface must be prepared: treated with antiseptics that prevent mold and eating wood cloth with bugs, flame retardants, and only then begin the main stage of work.
The facade of a wooden house can be trimmed in several ways.
To process special protective impregnation, wood stain. They are both colorless and color. Processing the facade in this way will not only protect the wood from rotting, but also emphasize its structure, allowing it to preserve the uniqueness of the building. Only it is worth considering that if the front paint is enough two layers, then impregnation will need twice as much - it is applied in three or even four layers.
Stucco Modern versions of plaster can not only get a well-plastered surface of any color, but also any texture. To achieve the latter, use decorative facade plaster. There are plasters with quartz or marble interspersed, so that the treated wall gets the effect of flicker. In order for the solution to stay even and well held, it is necessary to perform the correct preparatory work.
To paint. Wooden facades are painted with at least three types of paints: oil-based paint, water-dispersion paint and alkyd resin paints. Using a combination of colors on different parts of the facade of the house, you can make it bright, distinguished from the total mass of the same type of buildings. When deciding to use paintwork materials for the facade, remember that in this case, the facade will need updating after a few years, so do not paint the house in colors that will be difficult to find later. Another important point - make sure that the packaging indicates that the paint is intended for exterior work: if you use exterior paint for interior decoration - there will be no harm, but on the contrary - a waste of time and money. Regular interior paint does not have the necessary weather resistance and hiding power.
Before starting work, remove traces of possible fungal deposits, dust. If re-staining is done - it is necessary to carefully remove the old layer of paint. For this purpose, you can use the existing special washes, and you can do it with a conventional scraper or with a drill using appropriate nozzles. Another important point is the choice of tool. So, to work with water-borne paints, you should use a brush or roller made of synthetics, and for paints based on organic additives - a brush made from natural material. It is not necessary to take a spray gun for wooden facades, because this material has an uneven surface, which means there may be unpainted areas that you still have to go through with a brush. If a sealant is used to fill the cracks, make sure that the packaging indicates that the sealant can be painted. Fortunately, today not only imported paints can be found on the shelves of building stores, but also impregnating materials and paints that are quite good in quality from Russia.
Use such materials for facades, which are also called “mounted”, because they are attached to the wall in various ways. Still such facades are called ventilated. Many masters prefer just such a way of finishing, explaining their choice by the fact that a wooden house, the walls of which are sheathed and not painted, are in the best conditions, in the sense that they are fully protected from weather extremes and moisture. Such “mounted” methods include: facing with artificial stone or even natural (which is much more expensive at times), finishing with siding, facing brick, etc. Quite a new, but gaining in popularity, method of finishing facades is the paneling of its block house. This material is conquering the market in that it is produced in versions both for European racing and for solid timber.
Siding panels for this type of facade, they will not only give the house a more urban European appearance, but also create additional protection. The advantages of using siding can be attributed to the fact that after its installation does not require additional work, such as painting. Siding covering refers to the so-called ventilated facades. There is a gap between the house and the material to be mounted, and the house thus "breathes". But, using such methods of finishing the facade, it is necessary to take into account the state of the foundation, since it will bear an additional load.
Listed options for finishing the facade of a wooden house are not the only ones. It is also possible combining some materials with each otherthat will redefine the appearance of the building in a new way, will create an exterior that will undoubtedly attract envious glances. Until now, neither the professionals nor the owners of households have come to a definite opinion - what kind of finish of the wooden facade of the house is better: “wet” (painting, plastering) or “mounted” (using different types of wall panels, facing bricks). Therefore, it is more a matter of personal preferences and financial opportunities.
To work with mounted types of finishes, you may need the help of skilled craftsmen, since this work is connected with the use of special technologies and scaffolding. Therefore, firms selling any of the hinged facades have in their staff and specialists performing their installation.
Only at first glance it seems that the facade is only needed as a decorative component, and you can do without it. In fact, any of the above methods of finishing - wet or hinged - creates an additional protective barrier for the facade of the house. As is known, a tree necessarily needs such protection, since, unfortunately, with all its natural beauty, it is easily amenable to negative impacts at all times of the year.
