We eliminate drafts from the existing door

This problem is particularly relevant in suburban housing, as there the front door often goes directly onto the street or into a cold unheated vestibule. Although in an apartment building a draft from the door is a very unpleasant phenomenon, even if the entrance is warm. After all, with him into the apartment penetrates cigarette smoke and other unpleasant odors.

Traditional sealing is gluing a self-adhesive gasket in the form of a rubber band around the perimeter of the box. Unfortunately, this method is not very reliable.

So:

• First of all, when the door is actively used, the seal quickly becomes unusable and has to be changed.
• Secondly, the slightest bias will lead to the fact that the seal will no longer fit tightly to the door and qualitatively perform its function.

In addition, to properly glue the strip of the seal can only be the case if the door is perfectly level. If between the canvas and the box in different places there is a different distance, the rubber tape will not fit snugly to all parts of the door.

Therefore, we advise you to do differently, and install the seal not as usual - between the joint and the door, but as shown in the figure:

With this arrangement, the sealing tape will provide the best tightness of the door, even when it is deformed and sagging, as it will have a greater degree of freedom. Whatever the initial position of the web relative to the box, the compactor will work to stop drafts due to its advantageous location.

Instead of the traditional self-adhesive tape, you can use for this purpose a sealing cord made of foamed polyethylene of circular cross-section or a rubber tube made of rubber resistant to aggressive media.

And do not be confused by the lack of a sticky base on them: in this case, the glue will perfectly help you out.

1. Lubricate the frame around the perimeter with glue in the place where the seal should be located.
2. Cut pieces of the desired length from the tape, cutting off the edges at a 45-degree angle to dock at the corners.
3. Apply glue to the side of the seal with which it will stick.
4. After the shutter speed, which is 15 minutes for the glue Moment, close the door and put the rubber tape on the end of the box in such a way as to ensure that it fits snugly to the door. Hold it for a few seconds with your hands.

Attention! For complete drying, the glue takes a day, so try to use the door carefully on the first day

Of course, this method also has its drawbacks - the seal can be torn off by accidentally hooking it with something. But it will not be difficult to rectify the situation, once again gluing it in its place.

As mentioned above, if it blows from the entrance door, it can be completely insulated, making sure that the insulation (see Insulation for doors: types and parameters) is slightly larger than the box and covers all the existing slots.

To do this, specially made rollers, which are mounted on the perimeter of the door leaf. Sometimes these rollers are attached to the door frame. You will understand what is at stake if you look at the photo from the side.

And how to insulate the door, more details can be found in other materials of the site. This may be necessary even if you have an old wooden door, the canvas of which has cracked, and it has formed through cracks.

If the front door is blowing, despite all the efforts made, make sure that cold air does not penetrate through a large keyhole. Otherwise, you just have to replace the door.

How to prevent drafts from the door

Experienced builders know that the entrance door to a house or apartment can be installed only after all the “wet” work has been completed - masonry walls, plaster, putty, whitewash, etc. Especially if it is a wooden door that sensitively reacts to the increased air humidity.

When all these works in the new house are completed, and you are going to order a new door, think in advance about your requirements for it. It is clear that it should be strong and reliable, but when it blows from the front door, there is little pleasant in it.

Therefore, do not forget to clarify how it will be sealed. Now there are new models of entrance doors, the boxes of which have a special configuration - a three-stage one.
