In this article, we are learning how to make exterior insulated metal doors. This is a set of activities that need to be performed and only then it will be warm in your room. We should have not only a thermal curtain over the door, but it should be everywhere.

Door insulation

It is the best of all to do the metal warmed external doors at an initial stage of production. The metal doors are external insulated by GOST is not approved and therefore manufacturers sin not installing high-quality materials.

Weatherization

Warming the outer metal door (see How to insulate a metal door with your own hands: we do it wisely) is the hardest on the canvas. If you make the doors yourself, then it is not difficult.

But if you are reworking already finished, then you have to do a bit and work. Metal doors gost here will not help.

So:

• To begin with, we remove the door from the box and after that it is necessary to remove all the accessories;
• Now we need to measure voids and make a pattern. This is done to most correctly and accurately adjust the insulation. We make measurements and transfer them to fiberboard;
• Now we apply fiberboard and make marks for the holes for fittings;

Attention: It is important to make measurements correctly here. Our task is to completely fill all voids. Otherwise, we will fail.

• Warming of external metal doors is done on the entire plane of the canvas. Now we put the fiberboard on the insulation and just cut along the contour;
• Apply glue to metal or simply apply liquid nails. This must be done to ensure that the insulation does not crawl and does not get lost in the metal opening;
• We put insulation on the canvas and fasten the top panel from above;
• Now we wait for complete drying and fasten the fittings and install the eye. This should be done only after complete drying, otherwise installing, the insulation can be shifted.

Some prefer to use foam as insulation.

This is also acceptable and is done as follows:

• The foam is cut to the desired size. With this do it quite accurately, the cavities should remain as small as possible;
• As with the first version, glue is applied to the base plane;
• Glue the foam;
• Foam joints.

Installation and insulation of the box

Insulation of the outer metal door without proper installation and insulation of the box is simply impossible. Otherwise, just through the cracks will penetrate the cold air.

Note: To install, you must prepare eight pre-wedges. They are required for proper fixation. They can be made of wood. It will help to fix the box correctly in the opening.

 So:

• We put the box in the opening and immediately install the wedges;
• We take a plumb and construction level and make adjustment. Our box should be located strictly perpendicular to the floor. Adjustment done with wedges. The video is perfectly visible;
• Hang the canvas and see how the door moves. Nothing should disturb her. If everything is fine, then remove it. If something interferes, then we make the adjustment box with wedges;
• Now we look at the gap between the wall and the box. We need to fill it. For this it is best to use synthetic insulation. Some just do the foam treatment. But it absorbs moisture and after that it will rot. Therefore, it is better not to use it for the front door. We make cutting insulation;
• Apply glue to the wall and edge of the box and fill the voids with insulation (see Insulation for doors: types and parameters). The glue will harden and not the insulation will move;
• After drying, apply a layer of plaster.

We select the seal

For the correct operation of the door it is necessary to choose the seals. They can be made of foam rubber or rubber.

True, foam rubber is not so durable and it will not fit the front door. Let's figure out how to make the seal does not interfere with the work of the front door and at the same time did not let the cold air through and filled all the voids.

 So:

• Take plasticine and wrap it in film. You can take a simple food;
• We put it between the door and the box and the door clamps;
• Open the door and have the thickness of the seal. Now it is not difficult to choose according to the size obtained.

As can be seen from the above, this is a job and not so difficult. But it is best to do it immediately and not to redo it later.
