Repair of garage doors: features of repair of various types

It is sometimes necessary to carry out garage repairs on our own, and not to call construction teams for help. My garage is my castle!

And everything would be fine if it was a stationary box. But there are, for example, automatic garage doors, the repair of which is sometimes difficult to repair yourself. The mechanism is serious, there are a lot of knots, and it is unclear what to do with them. We will try to explain the main activities for the repair of various designs of doors in your garage.

The gates are movable, they constantly experience loads on knots and supports, wear out and break. Therefore, they are repaired more often than walls, floor, and ceiling. But the nature of the breakdown, and, therefore, your actions, will not depend on the frequency of use of the mechanism, but on its type. And the instruction will be different, even at the initial stage.

Swing gates

As a rule, this type of gate has a two-door design, that is, consists of two leaf-leafs. They are hung on separate loops, turn on them - and at the expense of it and open. The load on the loops is large, so it is they who, in this design, most often break.

It may be:

• Bias;
• Longitudinal deformation;
• Stock break;
• Corrosion;
• Loosening fixings.

So:

• As a rule, many garage owners do not want to bother with minor repairs of inexpensive items, so they change the hinges (see Hinges for metal doors - the nuances of choice) entirely, and immediately - on all the doors. If you choose hard work as a priority, the garage door swing repairs will wait until you get at least a welding machine in place. Of course, if you have metal canvases (you will not find wooden ones with a torch this afternoon).

• Another problem for the iron swing gates - sagging sash. This is not because of the hinges, but because of the deformation of the frame. Welded from the corners of the frame (see How to weld a garage door - work flow), which is a banal rectangle, was not reinforced with crossbars, and a sheet of metal was welded to it from the outside. You will find such gates in thousands of photos on the Internet in some non-professional “self-made” category.

The door turned hard, and the frame "led." Such faults are not eliminated locally, here you only need to change the sash. You can remove the same and redo it. But do not forget the stiffeners for the frame.

Tip! Generally, for universal swing gates there is one universal recommendation: if you want the sash not to sag - open the gate as little as possible. And in no case do not leave them open. If there is such a need - under each shutter you need to put a support, and not just shove a piece of wood, but drive a wedge.

• Corrosion can be the cause of metal doors for corrosion, rotting or mold for wooden doors, as well as insect damage. The way in which to deal with this is chosen depending on the volume of the affected area and the expediency of replacing the webs.

Sectional gates

This design is more modern, they say, several thousand years more modern. But she also breaks. And even more often, because - more difficult.

Usually, a sectional garage door repair implies the following: parts or a node that is out of order is being held. The most frequent malfunctions - in the electrics or in the springs, if the gate is mechanical, sectional type. Below we look at the most typical problems.

Gate jamming

Typical malfunction, which is mainly associated with wear or mechanical breakage of the rolling rollers. In modern versions, such rollers are covered with durable plastic or nylon, and over time, this coating wears unevenly. The rolling geometry is broken, and the gate "loops".

Note! Such a malfunction can be provoked by yourself if you install the rollers by yourself when installing the gate yourself. Be careful, the enemy does not sleep!

The canvas fell and does not rise

Then, the repair of the garage sectional door collapses in the form of dismantling the mechanism for replacing the torsion spring. If you have an expensive system, then the fall of the blade directly onto the car during the entry / exit will be excluded. Therefore, the option "fell" for expensive gates is excluded, but "does not rise" - remains.

Note! It is necessary to change the spring and with the break, and during deformation. Return the configuration of the spring you can not even magic wand. But without fail, with such a fault, pay attention to the reason for its occurrence - in most cases, the system is overloaded, that is, the increased load on the spring. Adjust the balancing or correct the skew. And check the scales.

Roller shutter gates

This is also an automatic garage door, the repair of which is mainly associated only with the failure of the mechanics spring or the electric components of the drive. All other malfunctions as a percentage account for a negligible share of the total damage. Replacing automation is carried out according to the rules, for each mechanism they are individual.

Partial repair of the system is possible when there is deformation of the lamellae. Then it makes no sense to change the whole system, but, all the same, it is necessary to disassemble the structure.

General case

Sometimes repairs are needed when you need to insulate the garage (see Insulation of garage doors: what to do) - and this is not related to a defect in the gate, rather, it is cosmetics. The price of the entire repair will depend on the type of construction and the type of insulation material that you will mount on the canvas.
